What do you think about different mix like, straw pellets + soybean pellets 80/20 ratio with only boiling water? Or is it still would be better to use hardwood instead of straw? Autoclaves is very expensive tho. And what is your opinion as a start commercial growing, laminar flowhood is necessary?
Master mix is expensive... use 80% hardwood pellets and 20 wheat bran since hardwood is only 6$ for 50 lb bag while wheat and soy hulls are around 30$ per 40lb bag using wheat you only need to use 20% which will save you money!!!$$$ also recommend whole oats for mushroom grow
Do you soak your soy hull pellets at all before adding to the bag, or do you add those along with hardwood pellets and water? I've seen it both ways, but have been a long time lurker on your page and have come to trust your judgement on a lot.
As an American, I wholeheartedly agree that our units system is complete garbage. Like why did we change it when the preexisting one just makes way more sense
Pellet fuel(4x) and soy hull pellets(10x) is very expensive my country, i cant do that. wheat straw (1x) and wheat pulp(2x) are cheap. I guess it will work. 1x = 0.2$ kg. It may not be expensive for you, but the dollar in the country is very expensive. Oyster mushroom price in the public market bazaar 2 $ kg. Weekly 50kg, monthly 200kg mushroom total 1kg=2$ x 200 = 400$. Up to the lowest minimum wage in the country, monthly 381$. group of workers cannot get more than this wage monthly 381$. So I build a mushroom farm that will make $ 350-400 a month, rather than be someone else's slave, rather than be someone else's slave, errand or slog away. Employers give who work here with a monthly salary of $ 381. Employers think of themselves as master, god, elite. They treat you like a poor, despicable person or scum. If you are not employed by a government agency, private companies and workers work at least 10 to 18 hours a day, and most of them do not even provide social security and do not pay a part of such a low wage.
What temperature is the water you put in the bag? How long do you leave it in there? (overnight) What exact time? When you put it in the pressure cooker, do you seal the bag first? And how long exactly? There's a big difference between 45 minutes and 2 hours (for a bag containing 1kg of oak and 1kg of soy). How much time?

Also, why not make a box around your blower fan with a pre filter? The pre filter will filter out some of the shite before you fan pushes it through the HEPA. Will increase the life of your HEPAs and it's far cheaper to replace the pre filters. ;)
There is a pre filter, it's mounted inside the box right before the hepa. You just cant see it :D My shiitake mix is usually 80% hard wood with 20% bran, although I am going to drop down to 15% bran soon as I am getting a lot of mutations.
Hey man nice work! So much simpler than others I've watched. Is it soy hill pellets or ground soy hulls? To add on to your country list below Canada says hello!
Any observations on the size of the 2nd flush as compared to a standard substrate? I’ve read the Master’s yields heavily with the 1st flush but with a greatly reduced 2nd flush.
I’ve seen in many Master’s Mix recipes calling for 50/50 hardwood to soy hull pellets with 60% water by weight. If I’m doing my math right (and I might not be), it looks like you’re using almost 55% water by weight . Is that correct? If so, do you see much difference in the 5% discrepancy?
Yes hes using 55%! I have tried with 60% water and it didnt work well, so this time im going to try with 55%..... mycelium stop growing with 60% water.
So you do 54,5% water? Or are you acouting for the moister in the pellets? I just do 3lt, 2kg. Works great for me. It's just easier, a 6lt makes for 2 batches. No scale needed.
I noticed that your third bag (the one ready to begin fruiting) doesn't look as 'white' as the bag with the blue oyster fruit body on it. Is the optimum time to fruit when the mycelium has only just taken hold of the whole substrate, or when it's thick and firm (and white)? Also, how the hell do you mix the spawn through the bag without making a mess, I swear it's impossible to not get it on the filter patch!
I fruit almost the day it finishes colonising, the reason I do this is that it will start pinning in the bag a day or two after colonisation has finished. I like to stay ahead of the pinning and try to get it to pin where I cut the hole in the bag. I'm not sure why they pin in the bag so heavily, perhaps it's because I use the 5 micron filter patches. That other bag at the back is also Phoenix oyster, and the bag with the fruits is blue oyster, so the mycelium could look a little different.
Again, a detailed video with some good fun humor, thank you :) Silly question from a noobi, have you tried LC directly into your substrate without going through grain spawn? have you considered that at any point?
Using LC straight into substrate works fine in my experience. However Turning your container/s of LC into grain spawn means you can inoculate more substrate with the same amount of starting culture :)
Great work! What is spawn ratio for 1 substrate bag ? 1 l of spawn or less ? And my idea is to put colonized wooden stick 20 cm long in the middle (that I do for my oyster grain spawn--put colonized stick in middle of grain bag) and hopes that bag will colonize. But how mush grain spawn you put in ?
Btw, I have watched your videos on the the sterilizer drum. Probably not all of them. Is that a bubas barrel's unit or did you source a a local stainless barrel. I have an autoclave but I'm, considering buildin't one like yours using a regular metal barrel like the first one you built. Do you think it's worth it or does it rust way too fast?
We don't have bubba's barrels here in New Zealand, so I just sourced a couple stainless barrels. I am looking for a plain old steel barrel now to increase production. The cost of stainless barrels is huge, and you can get a steel barrel for around $10, so steel is worth it even if you go through a couple each year. Just make sure you get one that's help food stuffs, not chemicals!
@@OakandSpore Yes, That's exactly what I'm thinking. Regular barrels are just too cheap in comparisson. Have you seen/consider Brian Callow's setup from What the Fungus? He has huge poly totes (designed for fruit harvesting I believe) and a steamer running steam through several of them. Andrew from Mossy Creek also has a big setup.
Yes I have seen Brain Callows, I looked at doing that but my research showed HDPE sometimes cant handle the heat, and plus I like to wheel my barrels into the clean room after they have sterilised so I open them into a clean atmosphere. I believe Brain Callow transports his from the sterilisers to his clean room, which can be a vector for contamination.
The two steel drums i have been using has lasted me so far a year. The one getting a little rusty, i am going to go and have the inside sand blasted and then paint it with stove paint. Yes steel barrels are the way to go and you can build an insert for them for around $40. Go to a beer distributer and buy an empty keg or a full one and have a cookout and then fabricate an insert out of it.

I wonder if the little spaces between each fuel bag makes a difference on how fast it grows if it was more finer it would grow faster right
