This is the best, most luscious, dirty in a good way, watercolor tutorial I've ever seen. Mr Benton is generous with his colors, his brushes and his explanations, his style is wonderful and those are the most realistic watercolor clouds I've ever seen. I hope he is OK. No videos in 11 months. I would love to see him work again, it's spectacular. Thank you Sir, please post more!!
@sisterwrath1773 I agree! I, too, hold great respect for his talent! What’s more: I Absolutely LOVE how the video is non-rehearsed, and raw… Surely most viewers can see: that within him lay an innate drive to create/paint… And: his explanations are clear, direct, meaningful & manageable for a newbie like myself!😮 Most importantly: like you, I hope he’s okay! No videos have been posted since 😢
Turned out absolutely beautiful! I kept thinking every time you added those colors that you were ruining it. And I kept wishing you would stop… So glad you didn’t
This is the best tutorial I have seen in real time. I wonder if you could publish more tutorial videos in watercolor. Your clouds look so realistic. I Love them!
Do you realize how great a teacher you are? Thank you for sharing your wisdom. Really enjoyed bring in the new year with you. Very blessed new year , you are amazing.
WOW! I was watching with fascination wondering how those colors would make a cloud….then BOOM….there it was….a cloud in the sky! I thoroughly enjoyed this presentation. I’m just starting out. Natural talent like this astounds me. I have zero of it. But I am hoping that with enough of a knowledge base and skill I can eventually approach the paper in such a relaxed manner with water amount, brush size, mixing colors, palette messiness and paper wetness. At this point, I’m Mrs. Hospital Corners in the process. My paper would be in tatters….. starting with the color primer on the paper….brilliant. I’ve done this with acrylic but not watercolor. I also haven’t seen anyone use such large brushes nor staple the paper to the board. I liked it all! THANK YOU, Woody!
what a great video for those moving from beginner to intermediate. I love the way you set up your equipment, I will definitely get some big brushes and a palette like yours for my next watercolor sky. Would love to see more!
Absolutely stunning!!! So amazing to watch that come alive and how brave you were with the colors...and kept at it until you were happy and it was Absolutely beautiful!! Sky and water are my favorite subjects and I always make sure to have my camera especially during storm season because clouds are just so gorgeous and always different. I know I have a ridiculous amount of photos, but I can't help myself when its beautiful knowing it's what I want to truly work on in watercolor. And once I'm healed up I will be following your lead here and try your method. I appreciate your sharing this and hope to see more :) thank you!
Loved how you explained everything. Thank You I am looking forward to your next video. Where is your location. The birds in the background sound exotic.
Actually, it would have been great if the cameraman took close ups of you painting on the paper from your left as you paint with your right hand. It could show more of your brush work. Also, most artists won't say it but it is true that watercolor is all about values. It's great that you mentioned it. And yes, please don't move the camera too much, it's confusing.
Hey, I m proud to be the 11th subscribers and looking forward to knowing more tutorial on watercolour, you did a fantastic job. I am happy to be learning from you, this tutorial going to help me improve in my work and learn more from you. I am waiting to see more stuff from you.
Master, the class is gorgeous. I would like to know which paper you use. Because it is very gentle to acomodate the new pigment you add and add and add. Thank you!
I also do the “Michael Jordan tongue” myself anytime I’m focusing on anything, especially when I’m painting 😂 Mr. Benton don’t play. That’s years of experience at understanding what’s most important in a painting and how to achieve that effect with the least possible steps. Very straight forward that’s what we all should be trying to achieve and working towards
Wow tecnica incredible, mi piace molto la tua arte. E pensare che sei un autodidatta, complimenti, i colori e il cielo in tempesta mi ricorda un opera di Turner, la Fingal s cave
Fantastic clouds thanks! It’s really helpful when the camera was on the left and less zooming in and out. Don’t mean to be critical but I would love to see more. Thanks to both of you!
Lovely tutorial I’ve been looking for some big brushes like that. What kind are they? Where can I get them? Thanks again for your time. You’re a great artist.
I’ve been looking as well. I’m wondering if they aren’t exclusively watercolor brushes. Maybe a Japanese ink scripting brush? Not sure. Still looking into it
Very inspiring, you recommend large paint brushes and that was a great tip, could you recommend or talk about paper choice. That is where I get lost and confused and even frustrated. Thanks a bunch for sharing your knowledge with all of us.
Is that half a sheet imperial? You stapled the paper to avoid back-runs I gather. I purchased Arches cold pressed 300 Lb and I like it since it’s very forgiving. I feel I learn the most with that brand and weight. However, I do like the “one paint a day” cliché and all but it’s an expensive paper to play with exclusively. Saunders 200 Lb is always backorder so i have ruled that one out. Suggestions? The sky you painted is the star but the addition at the bottom turned it into a stupendous landscape/picture :)
Mine did not turn out like this. I wasn’t using my good paper but @lso there are so many subtleties to mixing these colors perfectly. Maybe I’ll try some two color easier tutorials and come back to this one in the future with better paper
I have that easel. It's a Joe Miller watercolor easel for Plein air from the Cheap Joe website, but I don't believe it's available anymore. You could check the Cheap Joe art supply website for availability.
So clear. Nice filming but roaming around a bit too much. Very refreshing to just have your voice and natural sounds (no damned irritating, irrelevant music!)
I have a set of sharp-pointed tweezers at the ready to pick up errant hairs, from my brush to my own head, which keeps my OCD distraction at bay. Some of us cannot tolerate these 《shudder》.

This is one of the better watercolour demo’s by a master of art. A real good lesson and camera work showing all. Thank you
Turned out absolutely beautiful! I kept thinking every time you added those colors that you were ruining it. And I kept wishing you would stop… So glad you didn’t
Literally the best and most valuable cloud tutorial on RUclips and I’ve seen a ton. What a talented generous treasure you are.

Just posted anoher one!

Creating drama from the movement with shadow . I always think about the personality or the mood of the air. Beautiful!
Please, more videos. This was great!
Best cloud tutorial I've ever watched. Thank you!

Beautiful clouds. You are very brave with your washes. Just one thing that surprises me that is the calm water with a stormy sky :o)
I love the glow of light coming through the clouds! Turned out great! Thank you!
What a wonderful teacher you are. Such a calm and simple teaching style. I hope you do lots more of these, Thank You
I just found you and I love how you play with the colors, lovely sky painting. Subscription is done right now.

I really liked the over the shoulder camera angle and the angle on the artist’s left side.
I loved your video. Please make more.

Great clouds!! could you make one with a light beam?
Wow tecnica incredible, mi piace molto la tua arte. E pensare che sei un autodidatta, complimenti, i colori e il cielo in tempesta mi ricorda un opera di Turner, la Fingal s cave

Muy buena acuarela Maestro.

Wow that’s a great video - thanks a lot!
Your paper didn't buckle at all! How did you manage that? Lovely painting, I learned a lot about being adventurous in mixing colours 😊
Probably stretched it first. You can see that it is stapled to his board. It’s the only way I know to keep the paper from buckling.
Oh my. You are freakn amazing. I’m going to try. Love the colors. Not your basic cloud.
More, please.....I want more!
Great lesson 👌😍
That's awesome! Thank you so much!

wow that was quite a demonstration thank you
Omg this is so beautifull
Thank you very much for showing your creative process. It helps me greatly to take risks, try something beyond the staid,
Wow! Your clouds look so creamy. That is hard to do with watercolor 🤩
Mine did not turn out like this. I wasn’t using my good paper but @lso there are so many subtleties to mixing these colors perfectly. Maybe I’ll try some two color easier tutorials and come back to this one in the future with better paper
Please mention the paper and colours which you have used
W.N. or Windsor and Newton or Daniel Smith etc.
Fabulous sky....
Which paper you are using?
I am very interested to know more about he Plein air easel that you are using, I wonder if we might chat and find out more, best wishes Paul
I have that easel. It's a Joe Miller watercolor easel for Plein air from the Cheap Joe website, but I don't believe it's available anymore. You could check the Cheap Joe art supply website for availability.
@@debhagemeyer8025 Thank you for that I will check around.
It's called a French easel on Jerrysartorama. Or this one is very similar
thank you.... amazing
Does anyone know what paper he is using?
Jelly on the moustache?
Thank you ☺️.

Arches 300 lb.!

Was that an elephant?
He's very energetic isn't he? I'd hate the wobbly tables. That would really annoy me. Great demo. Thanks.
