    I have a very food motivated cat. I think I could teach him to do this.

      You absolutely could train your cat to do the weaves! You could make your own or get a less expensive portable set. I have a set that is portable and can be set up like shown for teaching. They are all attached, unlike the ones shown here, but they are made to not only fold down, but also be set up like this or in a straight line.
      Good luck with your kitty training!

      I've seen a cat do it. You can definitely do it. We only had weaves that couldn't be separated and food got the dogs trained, anything food orientated is trainable. Good luck!

      You will not train the cat. The cat will train you to give it food every time it weaves through the poles 😂. Of course you may not be motivated to train all the time. So the cat will have to capture those moments when you are focused and work on your consistency.

    Agility is such a fun sport! It's a serious bonding activity! There are multiple associations that offer agility, such as AKC (even mix breeds and purebreds without papers can participate), NASDA, NADAC, CPE, UKC and more!
    I'm not sure about the rules for any of the association other than AKC, but be careful when teaching weaves so you don't allow your dog to enter the weaves incorrectly. You did it correctly with the dog's left shoulder next to the first pole when entering the weaves. This is for either direction. The dog always enters with the left shoulder next to the first pole.
    Also, make sure you only work one direction at a time. I made a mistake in first teaching my dog (she's my first agility dog). I figured we would go one direction and then come back the other. Then I found out that if your dog makes a mistake and you need to start them over (you get three tries during a trial) and your dog backtracks through the weaves to get back to the start, you'll get "wrong course".
    Depending on which class and level you're in, you only have so many wrong courses, if any, before your run is an NQ (not qualifying score).
    I had to train her out of going the opposite direction when starting over. 🤦🏼‍♀️😅

    You made it seem so simple and easy for anyone to do😅. I don't think it'll be as easy as it looks, but I really do appreciate you teaching everyone how to do this. Pretty awesome, and Bear is the cutest thing to watch!

    Yes, i did wonder. Then i became a handler with my dog, a dachshund Elkhound mix. He's not super into agility, but scenting, hunting and Frisbee is 🤌
    No other dachshund in the world catches Frisbees like a lab

    My border collie will do this all on his own.. we’ll go on a walk, and he’ll find a line of posts and zigzag through them while dragging me 😂😂

    So the first dog doing some insane movement in high speed and you just let him slowly go left and right… totally the same 💀

      That first dog’s been training for months at least, if not years. His just one day. You’re comparing apples to shoes, bud.

      The first dogs a border collie, one of the most intelligent dogs in the world. Also, the first dogs only job is to do that

    • @1AnimalWhisperer
      @1AnimalWhisperer 10 месяцев назад +2

      This is how weaves are often taught. That first dog is doing practically the same movement but at a much faster pace and with a much bigger size. The pom has the potential to do exactly what the first dog is doing, but it will take time and lots of practice to get there.
