It would be near impossible to find another acoustic guitar player/ singer that was as dedicated to his craft and his performances for the audience as Michael Hedges! A master craftsman on a higher plane than most others. Truly it was just as entertaining to watch him play as it was listening to him play. So thankful that these videos of his performances are being shared. We lost his talent and magic way too soon...
Hedges was an amazing talent--left us far too soon. Check out this magical piece of guitar wizardry if you haven't already. And he does a great version of "All Around The Watchtower". ruclips.net/video/4P9mmZyGb4s/видео.html
Yeah man, I'm here reading comments years later. What a huge loss to the world of music and the planet. What a cool kid and some of the most beautiful sounds
@@chaplainmattsanders4884 I am jealous of two year ago you, having this amazing treasure trove of music and performances. We lost him too soon, but there are these amazing videos documenting his genius, his playfulness, his balls-out ferocity.
Thank you for this! I remember meeting him and his girlfriend several times in the Bay Area in the early 1990s, as my boyfriend at the time was a popular guitarist and all of the guitarists knew each other. My boyfriend would sing this to me thanks to Michael. This man was a force.
I remember the first time I heard Michael on N.P.R. radio back in the early 80's. I was absolutely mesmerized, listening to Arial Boundaries. That was my introduction to Windham Hill records, and it was a total revelation to me.
He is fantastic improvisator and one of top guitarists! His fingers extract from guitar's strings fiery arrows flying into our ears, souls, hearts, into our brain! Love his talent so much!
Why oh why have I never come across this clip? Amazing stuff and thank you so much for putting it online for us Michael Hedges fans to enjoy and marvel at. And of course, to mourn the loss of a truly great musician and composer.
He reminds me so much of this Bass/guitarist I played with in the late eighties. I was good friends with him. We could improvise complex jams. But he had that same awkward, off kilter personality. The friend I knew had schizophrenia. He was nearly the same way. Gentle, introspective and had the ability to see things in non-typical ways. And without being aggressive about it, he did not care if people thought he was strange.
I remember seeing his recital at the Peabody Conservatory of music in Baltimore, Maryland. His major was flute and his minor -guitar. It was amazing - he was amazing.
I got to see him at the Maintenance Shop in the memorial union hall, Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. What a show and I loved to watch him play his harp guitar. Couldn't believe it when he died way before his time. A loss of a true genius.
I'm just learning about him recently. Wow! I really missed the opportunity to see him live, or when he was alive. At least now I can see these great recordings. Great artists are always missed.
His All Along the Watchtower is up there with Hendricks--which even Dylan thought was better than the original...or so someone says. Buffalo Stance? Who needs Neena Cherry.
It's funny, I like a lot of classic top 40 from the 80's, but 'She Drives Me Crazy' by Fine Young Cannibals never really did it for me, for whatever reason. Then I heard this and it like flipped a switch inside my head or something.
She Drives Me Crazy💫lyrics I can't stop the way I feel Things you do don't seem real Tell me what you've got in mind 'Cause we're running out of time Won't you ever set me free? Waiting around's killing me She drives me crazy Like no one else She drives me crazy I can't help myself I can't get any rest People say I'm obsessed Everything you say is lies But to me that's no surprise What I had for you was true Things go wrong, they always do She drives me crazy Like no one else She drives me crazy I can't help myself She drives me crazy I can't help myself I can't help myself Songwriters: David Steele / Roland Gift
This is a brilliant version of one of my favourite songs covered by one of my favourite artists. Thanks for keeping it around, and thanks to type3secretion for uploading :D
That's the most "regular" haircut I've seen on him in any video. Far too conventional for this musical genius. Love MH! And thanks for all your MH material on YT T3S.
@type3secretion I can't describe how alive I feel hearing and SEEING Michael this winter. I keep on discovering more tunes I never knew of -- after I had heard him in 1979 - 1982 at the New Varsity in Palo Alto, before Windham Hill - I thought I had discovered an incredible musician and he just keeps on evolving. Face Yourself - with twenty seconds "GONE" - haunts. And the interview at turning 40 and facing death - you know where I am going. THANK YOU
Guitar masters enthrall me. I am just a mediocre, self-taught guitarist who is lucky enough to write songs that people like. BUT this man is definitely a guitar genius. I wish I could play like this. (This is a great cover of this tune.)
lyrics are nice to know, when you are singing (it/them) lol!!! okay I have written the words above, before listening/ watching the whole video it is so sad , you have left us so early your singing is just quiet amazing, just as your guitarplaying always was... maybe we all meet in heaven some day... I really hope so!!!
Just Clicked on this-i-knew Mike when he was going to PU in the 70's-dated him a bit-I am female.-longer hair-very quiet giggled a lot-Jeff Bullard, Jeff Phillips, and Donne Record also in band. Ione Dillon also-she became Ms Philllips university in '73-her brother was in Ozark Mountain Daredevils-did the o' o' Reilly auto song. Mike could play guitar with his toes in college but his favorite instrument then was the piccolo. He died in a single car auto wreck-snow and ice-didn't find him for 3 days-blizzard weather. . Always wondered if they had found him sooner if he would have lived. father was music teacher at Enid High school. Hedges' had this brick two story house.Mike roomed on campus with Donnie. Anyway-he'd be 66 now.
Been a Hedges fan since his first album way back then. Still think he's a genius. This cover is an example. After years of looking for his stuff, somehow this eluded me. Of the three versions of this song I've now heard, this is Grammy quality in my humble opinion. He's just so damn expressive, wholistically, with his voice, and with his guitar. I mean the sounds that he coaxes out of this pop? type song on his guitar are simply heavenly. His words strike truer than the writer. Thanks to t3s again.

This guy was a pure channel.
What a gift from the Universe.
Thanks for all your beautiful Music, Michael, you are truly missed.
R.I.P.
It’s been over 25 years and I still miss you Michael! 🙏🏼
Not only was he an absolute monster on guitar but he was a fantastic singer too!
RIP Michael...you are dearly missed!
To be able to make a guitar produce all of these sounds is absolute mastery. And his vocals are essentially perfect too.
Has anyone ever enjoyed playing and singing as much as this? Such unbridled joy.
_Maybe_ Tommy Emmanuel. When even the legs become part of things, it's good.
@@belascialoja4812 i "like" tommy but his originality isnt anything in the same realm as michael
from someone who has seen tommy 5x live
One of the greatest guitar players for sure.
just discovered this guy like 20 minutes ago and i keep on listening. just amazing

I can't believe how crisp the sound and clear the video is! One in a million.
I was thinkin same
crisp is the right word, as it is ainsaley on point. You can only imagine being in front of the guitar and speakers themselves.
RIP Michael. So blessed to have seen you many times. Miss you and the gift of music you were for all!

you can tell he really enjoyed playing this song here, awesome natural sound on the guitar a lot of energy.

Absolutely incredible.

2018 and still the best cover

I remember seeing his recital at the Peabody Conservatory of music in Baltimore, Maryland. His major was flute and his minor -guitar.

Yeah, but in college he played the piccolo-not flute.,

His All Along the Watchtower is up there with Hendricks--which even Dylan thought was better than the original...or so someone says. Buffalo Stance? Who needs Neena Cherry.
First version I ever heard--I said "I've got to learn that!" people who knew the song heard me play it and said "you like that song?"
thats every song that michael touches...
It's funny, I like a lot of classic top 40 from the 80's, but 'She Drives Me Crazy' by Fine Young Cannibals never really did it for me, for whatever reason. Then I heard this and it like flipped a switch inside my head or something.

She Drives Me Crazy💫lyrics
I can't stop the way I feel
Things you do don't seem real
Tell me what you've got in mind
'Cause we're running out of time
Won't you ever set me free?
Waiting around's killing me
She drives me crazy
Like no one else
She drives me crazy
I can't help myself
I can't get any rest
People say I'm obsessed
Everything you say is lies
But to me that's no surprise
What I had for you was true
Things go wrong, they always do
She drives me crazy
Like no one else
She drives me crazy
I can't help myself
She drives me crazy
I can't help myself
I can't help myself

Only heard this cover by him unreal buffalo stance and now this two 80s classics quality
Just wowww

I ‘ve always loved how he seems to leave the guitar play itself, while he does amazing things with his voice.
absolutely raw

Se tivesse acompanhamento de bateria e guitarra ficaria
mais perfeito ainda.
Does anyone happen to know what tuning he's in?
Some people feel music more than the rest of us… even though we really believe we feel it.
anyone do the tabs for this by chance??
holy fuck, so good. Amazinh
it reminds me of the version of human nature john mayer played at MJs memorial...are those the same chords in the beginning?
I just be crazy, that Lazy Chair is just is not mine, now I am trying No backseat driving!
alrighty...who's got the tuning?
Nice zubbas. Love the MH.

Now that's how to cover a song
I wonder the amount of calories burned with all the back and forth rocking?
