- Mediation with a Landlord and a Tenant in a disagreement about rental payments. A production of the Mediation Center of Greater Green Bay in cooperation with the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
i found the mediator focused, fair, and powerful
Here in the UK the state would pay his rent till he found work again and also give him about £75 a week to live on - i guess its different in the US
Umm yeah, hella different in the States. We make choices everyday about medications or food, rent or moms jewelry, all that shit. But we also have the option to get way ahead in life if we choose. I would take our way any time!
So the tax payers have to take the burden for the deadbeats. hmmm just like prison without the fear of dropping the soap.

As a Florida Certified County Court mediator, I enjoyed watching this. I volunteer twice a month to mediate small claims cases.
I want to get started. Where did you take your certification?
what's in it for you to mediate if there's no monetary compensation. How do you "get paid"
Very good actors.
The landlord wouldn't necessarily get an eviction if he missed a payment, that would still need to be secured through a court proceeding.
Yes everything said in here is confidential except for the millions of RUclipsrs
I think Dennis got tired of working. He took his extended vacation and figured it would work out in his favor. He forgot to pay his rent!! Then he found out Linda wasn't messing around!!! She rightfully wanted her rent from him.
Landlords are leeches of society, Linda can get dust in her eyes he already gave her approx 30k, the house is his for all I care 😘

Hey sexy
This was waaaaaaaaayyyyy more civilized than when I took MY landlord to mediation. My landlord screamed and argued with our mediator. She lied like crazy, too, even when she was proven wrong. When I sat outside during her caucus, you could hear her through the door, and you could hear the mediator telling her to calm her ass down, lol. and so did everyone else who was waiting for their case. As for me, I barely had to say a word.
So what happened? Did you get paid? I'm going through it and need to hear something good?
Then move
These landlord lies so much
U probably deserved to be evicted
I hope this is about someone else. Let’s NOT go there with all my stolen money
The problem is, after he sells the jewelry he still won't have a job and he will be right back in the same situation.
If this is real , I wished I could have her poker face when people are not being reasonable.
Great educational video. Wrong dispute material. Never heard a landlord mediate with a delinquent tenant. They simply evict them and sue for any unpaid rent and that’s that.
Exactly. He's arguing & hasn't got a leg to stand on legally!
8:25 “I would rather be in her shoes coz I don’t have a job” 🤣 he killed so funny
He impresses me as being entitled and a professional victim. He was more concerned about having cable and having gas for a car he can’t afford, when he is not paying rent.
His refusal to pay late fees and the blaming the landlord for charging for court fees when he had no reasonable plan to pay the rent and had no intention of doing anything about it until he was forced to by the court.
I don’t blame the landlord for pushing this action, especially with his entiled attitude and the fact that he still has cable and is driving in a car that could be sold to pay the rent.

Thanks for doing this. We are facing mediation soon with our landlords who illegally withheld our deposits, illegally removed our property, and changed the locks on our unit when we were still tenants and had paid the full month's rent. This helps give us an idea of what to expect.
That's all criminal what landlords
Thank you for your post. How did you get your management to agree to mediation? Isn't it optional?
@@Angela-ot7es Mediation is voluntary, so if someone does not agree to participate they can’t force them

Why is this so entertaining!??!
Because no landlord would do this. They just file an eviction and sue your ass.
Because you're a shitty person? Occam's razor
Wow I lived in Green Bay, Wisconsin for 3 years and I had NO idea that this place existed. Damn I miss living in Green Bay on Velp Avenue.
Always keep a calculator handy during mediation. Great showcase of skill, movement, and appropriate reframing.
Someone should help him find a place in senior housing. Maybe something subsidized. He can't just live there, and not pay rent.
Yes our senior citizens need help. Take it out of my taxes
He cant live anywhere and not pay rent, though. Senior living places cost money too.
Senior living is quite expensive more than rent

Tenant, I don't want pay late fees.... Sorry not your decision.
She just wants him out period !
I would too. This guy is a whiny bitch who thinks everyone should do want is convenient for him while he watches cable tv.
yoyo762 as a landlord, I have a tenant and there’s a snowball effect...unless someone gifts you the money, especially at this mans age. This man has to realize, if he is evicted, a sheriff can come and take him out of the apartment or house.
they both are so good i wish i saw before i have paid the rent for this old guy very sad
She was nice enough to stopped the double asking for the late fees where not unreasonable
She is RUTHLESS! She said that she has other tenants. He was a good tenant who payed on time every month for five years! 😱 RUTHLESS and heartless. Shame on her. I feel bad for the elderly man. I hope that they can agree to something.
You realize this was a skit right?
Why do people think it's okay to not pay their rent? Would it be okay if their boss kept their paycheck? I bet not. This is a landlord income
Agents most the times do not repair anything that was damaged before new tenants move in

Hello folks,
I'm currently undergoing training for mediation, and I would like to say that this was a very helpful resource to me, as I picked up a few things after watching this mediation. However, I would like to respectfully give a few points as to what I realized while watching this mediation, and what I would do or change given my style of mediation. Hopefully this could give you a different perspective on the mediation process.
As most of us know, this was a mock mediation, and only serves to give people a glimpse of what a tenant-landlord situation would look like. As far as I know, a normal mediation would rarely take this little time, and could potentially be more volatile emotion-wise. Throughout the mediation, I enjoyed watching the mediator take a more passive but firm approach when talking to the landlord and tenant. But is it me, or was caucus called way too early?? I could see calling caucus early as an effective strategy to gain knowledge of the situation early without interference of the other party, but I wasn't entirely sure if it was necessary. It almost seemed as if both parties weren't able to fully explain their stories. Another thing I noticed was that the mediator rarely used reframing to clarify what was being said by both sides, but I suppose the matter was extremely clear to both the tenant and the landlord. These participants are most likely much much MUCH more experienced that I am, but one thing I noticed was that the mediator seemed to become less and less impartial as the video went on. You can notice the mediator remind the tenant frequently about potential repercussions and the chance of being evicted if he did not come to an agreement. And finally, when terms of the agreement were discussed, the mediator once again reminded the tenant of the consequences. All in all, they did a much better job than I would have ever dreamed of doing, but thankfully I am going to another training session to roleplay these exact kinds of situations! It's amazing how such an old video can still serve to be an amazing tool for mediators in training just like me.
I just wanted to thank you for your review. I am taking an online conflict resolution class and have a mediation assignment on this video. Your review helped me to look back and really watch what happened in the video which helped me to answer some of the questions on the assignment. So thank you for your input!
@@autumnecho4742 No prob! I'm glad to hear that you're currently learning about conflict resolution. It's actually pretty crazy that I'm re-visiting this video from a whole year ago, and it reminds me of when I first wanted to learn about mediation. However, life kinda changed for me, and I decided to study psychology at my university. Mediation/conflict resolution was definitely my second career choice, but I'm glad that I'll be able to help people in a similar capacity as a psychologist. Looking back in hindsight, I can say that mediation was one of the most enjoyable skills to pursue. As for you, keep at it! It'll be totally worth it :)

Really helpful..Thank you for uploading
I see why he in this situation. He worried about the wrong thing and is a know it all
I thought the man was the landlord at first.🤣
As a tenant rent is essential to be paid. Make payment arrangements BEFORE you get into difficulty. I can see both sides. The tenant is not being reasonable to be honest. You can't expect to stay for free and then complain when the Landlord gets upset about wanting their money. You go without cable TV and use pre-pay phone service. It can be done.
Its not real
hey there,
will you help me to solving this situation
It doesn’t leave this room no one will ever know except RUclips
Good to see a hard core landlord.
So many renters play the system with court ordered stays and delays to a point they don't pay the rent for more than a year. Many renters are clever when it comes to utilizing renter rights and motions to stifle an eviction.
yoyo762 Not in the South.
@@newlife2596 did he leave your property?

@@FurbyGender If tenant paid his rent she could afford it ..
Okay, as a former landlord, you have to find a way to make the best of the situation.
He is an older man, no job, behind on rent, but has been in the apartment for the past 4-5 years.
Perhaps, have him work it off being that she runs a business.
Now, if he decided not to work it off, then she would have no other course of action but to evict him.
Eviction is part of being a landlord.
🤷🏿♂️.
Homelessness creates debts for city and States, and when the the local City Police Commissioners don't agree to let the United States people to work because they don't like them or not able to control those United States citizens lives, homeless will increase and continue. The the States City police Commissioners are a problem for the United States government, because the landlords are right to want their rent on time or in a few days.
It just shows how the house market destroys people’s minds ! He’s a sir without job she is a business person ... Government knows that house is a big issue !
Only shared on you tube. Confidential lol
Wow super cheap rent
Will Ellison keep in mind this happened in 2013... and took place in Wisconsin... not NYC
..who pays the mediation fees?
The party that brought case to mediation, sometimes when court judge sends cases to mediation, he can decide if fees should be split or even waived. Some courts request that mediator work at least one case free of charge.
Interesting informative video
Training video!!!!
"I have nothing to do all day, and now I don't have cable?" 😢😢
This isnt even be a discussion. It’s not the owners problem if he can’t pay. Evict and move on. Dumb of her to entertain the idea letting him continue.
“i gotta put gas in my car” to go where????
ITS A TRAINING VIDEO GOOD LORD PEOPLE COMMON SENSE!!!!!!
thanks guys.
But even if he moves outshes not getting nothing
She can move someone in that will pay rent.
I imagine this is staged or maybe some kind of training video.
i was laughing very hard when the word double was use lol in my head the person was really thinking about to double slap her
She owes him nothing. If she didn’t pay the bank you wouldn’t have a choice.
this is role play for sure
This could be a case where she could offer to pay the tenant to move into a shelter, cash for keys.
Criminal act 1: it's not confidential if I'm watching.
Even though they’re actors, I’d be damned if my landlord is gonna increase the amount I owe by two/three-fold bc I’d just laugh in her face. Nowhere is that acceptable for being 5 weeks late on rent like wtf 👋🏼😂
Depends on what your lease says.
Good for her (the landlady)! I'm 20 and am going through a similar situation (I am owed).
You'll be paid
me too, as a young student, I'm in a similar situation as you
I wonder if someone could tell us just where this mediation is happening (like state, country (or province if it's occurring in Canada))? Landlord and tenant laws are somewhat different in both countries as well as state and provinces. Could someone clear this up, please? If this is happening in the USA, it will have no bearing on what takes place in Canada, and vise-versa. I somehow think this is occurring in the USA by the sounds of things but would like it clarified for the record.
The problem with mediation it's legally binding no appeals
Why didn't he just sell the fucking jewelry straight away and pay his damn bills up. Cell phone - Cable? Jesus Christ.
I like this video, I do have some suggestions.
Sit both parties on the same side of the table. Have the parties find their own solutions, and have them feel like they came to the solution theirselves. Always caucus with the tenant first. Advocate for both parties. Do not put someone in the “hot seat”. Listen.
He has to put gas in his car hmm
Hey, I live in Wisconsin. Are these real events, or just paid actors?
I think it’s just mock meditation period
@@musicfriend2051 Mediation lol not meditation!

Typical: "I deserve cable and a cell phone."
i mean, i'm usually on the side of the tenant because my mom has been in his shoes my entire life, but at the same time. bitch. when we couldn't pay rent we did NOT have cable. Like, what a little shit. "I have nothing to do all day" what a crock of bull. go to the library, rent a bunch of dvds or borrow a book. You can figure something out.
if he had said internet, that's one thing because the library internet is horrible and annoying to get to. It's also real hard to apply to jobs in a library and shit because it requires personal info and people are nosey af. but cable is completely 100% just a fucking luxury
Carl Saberhagen in all fairness, how do you get a job without a phone? He may be paying the same price with his cell than it would be if he had a home phone.
I would agree cable isn't necessity. Regarding a phone, probably needed cause job apps he has out there won't be able to contact him?
So very important to have a lease!
I enjoyed watching that.
This guy needs government shelter. Renting is a business if you don’t pay you leave the house. Before you rent save money at least for 6 month coverage.
He said, “Court fees?!”
I see a lot of support for the landlord. Imagine being the tenant and losing your job. The first thing that goes into your mind is how your going to pay your rent. Your already hurting losing that job and now your going to be homeless? Coming back from losing the job is gonna be difficult. You feel too far gone when your homeless on top. This is a situation where I'm saying that this tenant never had problems before and always been responsible.
Imagine having someone steal thousands of dollars from you every single month and expecting you to be cool with it because they don't have a job. How about when I lose my job I hit you up for a thousand each month?
@@sierrapeaks Well, If one has always been a good tenant, always paid your rent on time, kept the place clean, and quiet, most of the time it's worth keeping that tenant. You know this tenant and your more likely to get all your money back as soon as they get back on their feet. Setting aside emergency money is always necessary and responsible. If the tenant is a good person they are aware of their limits. If they don't see the light at the end of the tunnel within reason, they'll vacate. You don't need to steal money from me, If have it to give...I will. But if your that type of person that always has their hand out...
@@pitbull1026 in California, where I am, you don't want that tenant. We're limited to rent increases at 5% plus inflation or 10% which ever is less, why would I keep the tenant who's (Not) paying rent capped at $1700 a month when I can get rid of him and rent it out to somebody who can and will pay $2800-$3,000 a month. In my mind he's already stealing the difference between the $1700 month rental rate and market rate of $3000 each and every month, now he's stealing the rest of it too.
This definitely is not a meditation this is a shakedown. The "non partisan" mediator is definitely putting the screws to this poor guy.

The lovely Landlady resembles Laura Dern
I had one back in Illinois, in Chicago Court, with mediation, and the landlord bullied arm me leaving and mediation and court and no one helped: but I was told I had a very good case against the landlord; but because the landlord has alot of money he paid people of.i lost became homeless almost lost my life and I was sexually assaulted
I WANT Money AND I WANT IT NOW LOK
You guys…. It’s staged. 👌🏼😂 they’re actors and doing their best to be very difficult people from both sides so we can gain a better understanding of the side we may be on or the other side in a objective point of view. Normally, within mediation, nothing would leave the room & there’s no way a mediator would hold a meeting between two real people and then post it on RUclips yall. 😋
If I was an evaluative mediator I would make this recommendation in the caucus
Apparently, the mediator is biased and she is also threatening the tenant with eviction. She can see that the tenant is in a fix. I enjoyed watching though as I handle quite a lot of landlord/ tenant issues.
She's merely pointing out he's broken the rental contract terms by not paying rent, so legally, his Landlord can evict him. The mediator has no power to evict him that is the Landlords decision: which she can make, legally, because he's broken the terns if his rental contract by not paying . The mediator is doing her Court appointed role, pointing out where the situation is at legally & trying to find a solution for both of them .
The reason we are here is you owe me money lol
