- In their rush to find a replacement for former front man Peter Furler, The Newsboys hired Michael Tait formerly of DC Talk. Did they act in haste before weighing out all their options for a singer? I think this video speaks for itself.
I am an OLD SCHOOL Newsboys fan. My first Christian concert as a teenager was the Newsboys "Step Up to the Microphone Concert." I have owned every album that the Newsboys have ever produced.
That being said, I loved Peter Furler. He was very talented in ways that you cannot train or learn. The Newsboys were awesome with his leadership. However, the Newsboys have done amazingly with Michael Tait as the lead man, and I have as much respect for them, their music, and especially the message as I ever have.
Please Newsboys, keep glorifying The LORD with you lives, music, and actions. You will always have my support.
Their music is food for the soul! ❤️
Sorry. Can't say I agree. Michael Tait is an incredible artist and I saw them on their first tour with him and he was phenomenal. This just seems laid back and amusement at its best.
Michael Tait is GREAT. I love Furler too, but all the songs out now shows how great Tait is.

It's 2017 now and I absolutely love Michel Tait. The Newsboys made the right decision. I was a newsboys fan with Peter Furler and I am now with Michael Tait. It's just amazing to me.
I didn't even listen to Newsboys before Michael Tait. Anyone who thinks Tait is a mistake is definitely not the brightest candle on the cake....
then you never knew the newsboys in there prime. Its like people that listen to the new Blink 182 but never listened to them in the 90s.
And a long, long time ago people were saying "Who is this JESUS, he sure aint no John the Baptist!"
I think the title is meant to be satirical. Wally obviously likes Michael Tait. Obviously Michael Tait is good enough to sing these songs. He said that he's only practiced them 4 times at that point, and they're doing this as a fake "audition" for him to be the new lead singer. He didn't even know the lyrics to "Shine" yet, at the time. Context clues, guys. Read between the lines.
At first, I was thinking,"How is this going to work? After all, Michael Tait doesn't even have an Australian accent". Michael has put my mind at ease, with all the great songs that have came out since steppin' up to the microphone.
This was posted in 2009... it's now 2016 and Newsboys are huge! Can we say God's Not Dead? Michael Tait is a perfect fit for the band. They're big and getting bigger

Whoever doesn't like Michael Tate in Newsboys is crazy. I think he made Newsboys better and have a different sound than all the other bands.

No, they didn't make a mistake with him. Just saw them in concert and they were awesome! I wish I could have seen them back when peter and Phil were front stage, but, they are awesome regardless! A very GODLY Group!

I love both him and Michael, but hearing them together at WinterJam just blew everything else out of the water! Their voices blend so well, and then adding Phil Joel back on guitar again? It was a dream come true for this lifelong Newsboys fan 😭❤️

Just saw their concert in Indiana, he was awesome!!! Got to meet him too, so down to earth. Great time.
Peter Furler was and is the MAN. Tait is talented but not a good fit with the Newsboys. We stopped listening to Newsboys when the change was made. We will listen to Peter Furler Newsboys songs. Tait does not sound right. The DJ is more of a fit for Newsboys.

I was a newsboys fan starting with "boys will be boys" in the very early 90s....days before the internet, and I didn't even realize the lead singer had changed from John James to Peter Fuler till years after the fact...they sound so much alike.
That radio DJ is very effeminate to say the least. Wow

I think you rushed to judgement as Michael Tait has developed quite nicely. You caught him when he was still raw with the Newsboys, so no big surprise there.

In retrospect, 3 of the current Newsboys members have been close friends and/or have played in the band for 14 years or longer. Changing the name would not make sense just because they're without Peter Furler for an indefinite period of time. The only exception I would think is in regards to their upcoming album, which Duncan says is going to be very pop, an element that the Newsboys have always used, but never as the main genre of their music before.
Let's review shall we? Duncan Philipps has been a Newsboy since 1993 where he started as the keyboardist, then went to percussion, then drums. Jody Davis joined around the same time, left the band a little over a year ago, and then came back. Jeff Frankenstein joined in 1994 on keyboards and has been doing that ever since and recently began using bass guitar sounds with the absence of a bassist.If Peter Furler was gone from The Newsboys for good, then yes maybe they should consider a name change
Michael Tait is awesome for the Newsboys. His strangeness combined with theirs is a perfect combination. I loved watching them in concert. I honestly think some people need to open their minds and get over themselves. Ignorance is not always bliss.
That was so funny, thanks for sharing :) Personally I loved the original Newsboys back in the day, but Michael Tait brings a new style and feel to their music while still sharing the love of Christ and the purpose behind the music of the Newsboys. I feel that he was an excellent addition and hope that they go far.
I can remember how I missed John James as the lead vocalist... now, I'll miss Peter Furler. We'll get attached to Michael Tait, also... as long as they don't expect him to sing songs by Peter Furler or John James. There will be a new listing of Newsboys songs, written with Michael Tait in mind... and they'll be great songs!

What I think people may be forgetting is that Michael Tait had to learn 22 years worth of songs, and a sudden switch like that heightens the difficulty a bit
Furler was great, but Michael Tait is great in his own way. He's got a great and unusual voice - which is what Peter Furler had. Loved Tait in DC Talk and love him in Newsboys.

I realize this post is 9 years old, but no, they did not make a mistake in bringing Tait on board. I've been a fan of both DC Talk and Newsboys since the late 80s, both great bands.
I had the displeasure of seeing these guys roughly two years or so after Tait became their new singer, and he still didn't know any of the lyrics to their classic hits!!
Fuler and Tait are both great singers, but Fuler was the sound of Newsboys. Tait's newsboys still is great, but its not Newsboys.
Tait was a good move, definitely. I can't wait to see two of my old favorites come together.
More then 3 years later with Tait, I think that the newsboys are still growing and getting better! ;-)

If you think tait is mistake then that's your opinion. Michael brought new life to this band and opened a new chapter that has this band rocking for decades more. You rock Tait🤘

No way, Newsboys made the best and right decision. He is an incredible performer and singer. Saw him in 2019 at Winter Jam in Tampa, Newsboys were the greatest especially with Michael Tait.
peter is what made the newsboys memorable to me-- he had a distinct look and more importantly his accent gave the songs such a unique sound-- i don't think they'll really be the newsboys from here on out :-(

i havent listened since Furler left. And im sure Tait is great and makes the new stuff awesome but theres no way that he fits better for the original songs. the Newsboys from 95 - 02 are the ones I know and love.

@UnluckilyEnlightened: A ministry will go through many changes over the course of time. If we were talking about Led Zeppelin, I'd have to agree with you. But we're not talking about a BAND, we're talking about a MINISTRY that just so happens to use music as a platform for Kingdom agendas. A band is personality-centric, a ministry is Kingdom-centric. If a music ministry becomes personality-centric, then the ministry dies when the band dies. Peter has created a legacy that will long outlive him.
It isn't our place as good Christians to judge my friends, everything happens just as the Lord intends and I believe he placed Tait exactly where He wanted him to be, to sing and bring the joy of the Lord into our hearts. In this video Tait seems overwhelmingly nervous having been put on the spot and I believe that's all there is to it, GOD BLESS :)
They are both great and they both fit in with the Newsboys.
I love Michael Tait. Looking at where the band is today, they made the perfect decision.
To be fair to Michael,I saw Newsboys last spring and Michael has learned the songs.
I like the Newsboys and I like Michael Tait... I personally do not think that Michael mixes well musically with The Newsboys, but yes I would see them in concert... grudgingly. Also, having Kevin Max with AA now... I'm just gutted. These are three of my favorite bands mixed together, but I really would prefer to have the original bands together.

I've listened to them ALL growing up, I Love each one for their gifts, their hearts for Jesus and making Him known around the world, I Love their passion.
But I'd LOVE to have the original guys all back together...Though I know there is a season for everything under Heaven and I do have to say, as much as iiii would LOVE for the original/old school, I do believe that The Lord is using everyone of these men of God to do what they are Called to do.
But it is sad at times.
LOL I can recall years ago being at Creation Fest. (East Coast!) -I seriously was the only one in my little group at the time who was willing to go right to Michael, Toby and Kevin to ask for signatures....I did it for everyone of my friends and possibly a couple others that would just do it. Once I finally finished w/those items, I said to Michael "dude, can you guys sign this real quick, I know you guys are running late for another show, please.?" He was so sweet, he looked at me while everyone else was already running to the bus to head out, touched my cheek and said I'm so sorry we gotta go, but it was great to meet you." And then he ran for the bus. I LOVE music & I LOVE Godly men and women that use their gifts to Bless others. I know that if they had the time they would have done it....It's amazing the way we can put them on a pedestal, but they don't belong there. I always just enjoy taking with these band members, to this day and knowing how they're doing....no signatures required :) God Bless & Jesus be your Peace!

Do you know how DC Talk was, Newsboys has a band because of DC Talk, they transformed Christian Music and their were able to take it to the main stream media, the liberal media, and they spread the love of God. Newsboys should be happy they got one of the best Christina Music Inventors ever

I totally agree with "iamluvdx3" in the above comment. I saw (and met) Michael Tait. He is, undoubtedly, one of the most committed Christians I've ever seen. He was with his band, Tait, at the time. I remember telling my husband later, "It's scary how 'front lines' this man is!" - meaning, Wow! I'm evangelistic, but I wanna be more of a Jesus Freak like HE is!!
I really miss the old DC Talk and the old Newsboys.

NOTHING against Mike Tait, I just dont think that he fits. Well, It's probably cause I was one of Peter Furler's and Phil Joel's biggest fans, but they should really reconsider their choice before they lose alot of fans. Once again NOTHING against Mike Tait. He has an execelent voice.
