My first impression, she was inspired by Metal bands, presenting ancient looks, like: Eluveitie, Amon Amarth and Leaves' Eyes, dArtagnan. Nice to see there was a meaning behind Chappell's looks. Chappell was the best moment of VMA's. She looked cool, when was angry. A true warrior with a mighty sword.
I might have been in the general area while this performance was going on? We went to an art/history museum and we're like "It's a good thing that Chapel Roane concert is in, because otherwise this museum would have been packed tonight". It was in Arkansas, We went to the museum Crystal Bridges, like, two weeks ago.
People are literally fighting for their lives in comment sections because her makeup artist said her look was inspired by Joan of Arc. I don’t doubt that, but I do think that the imagery of the building burning was a loose reference to the story. Why a castle and not a convent? Let’s imagine if Chappell chose to have the imagery of a burning convent on stage on television…. Yeah. She also probably dressed as Joan of Arc instead of a nun for the same reason
I KNEW IT HAD TO DO WITH JULIE THE LEGEND
i knew it was amazing, but I didn't realise it was THAT amazing! thank you :)
Thank you for breaking down some of the symbolism and history behind the performance! Makes me appreciate it that much more ❤

I caught the Joan reference immediately given the suit of armor. I can't see how someone sees suit of armor and think 17th century fencer.
Cool video. 😎⚔

The age of the rug, 600 years, would point to the story of Joan of Arc. Otherwise why would she mention the age of a rug.
Wtf is a shoey
