I'm an old guy that has been enjoying Rock, Hard Rock and Metal my entire life and I'm not really into this making comment thing. But I would like to point out that the 1960's Hippie Era are baby boomers who were born (1945-1959) . Those born in (1960-197? - There's some debate in Soc. circles) are part of Generation X and many were teens in during the 1970's. Gen X saw the rise of the early Punk and New Wave era in the mid 70's. So, no Hippies in Gen X because that was long over by the mid 1970's. Enjoy your journey and best to you Both.
Good info!
Sorry but the post-war Baby Boom was well documented to last into 1964. Your use of 1959 is a convenient and memorable cut-off date (since it coincides with the ending of a decade), but its not historically or statistically accurate. The post-war birth rate in the United States did not fall to (or lower than) the pre-war birth rate until 1964 and thereafter. And the higher birth rate than that of the pre-war norms is, by definition, the "baby boom".
Here's the breakdown of generations I found. The Lost generation 1883-1900, The Greatest Generation 1901-1927, The Silent generation 1928-1945, Baby Boomer Generation, 1946-1964, Generation X 1965-1980, Millenials 1981-1996, Generation Z 1997-2012, Generation Alpha 2012-present.
Many people think that 1969 was "the Summer of Love," but it was really the end of the "hippy movement," and much more along the lines of the Rolling Stones concert at Altamont Raceway, also in 1969.
mhlevy 68 was the summer of love coined in SanFransico.
You guys would love this entire album "Animals". It's absolutely perfect start to finish.
My favorite Floyd record!

They need to review the whole album as this is how it is meant to be heard
@@ejohnson3837 Vin would. Siri looks bored to death. Just looking for her phone for most of the video. Give her shoirt videos as she has a short attention span.
@@andyandy2629 you are correct on that. they need to review whole album sides at least.
David Gilmour's solo in this song is one of the best in prog rock history easily. Gives me chills every single time 👌
some of his best guitar work and I realize this is a very bold statement consider the body of his work, epic and legendary.
which one? lol
I read he said it was his most difficult to play...which I can understand.
Really epic guitar work on this album. Also Gilmour played some of the bass too. The guy is without peer!
The three main songs on the animals album, Dogs, Pigs, and Sheep, are representative of types of classes in society.
Specifically the pigs are the capitalist class who get wealthy by leeching off the labor of others, the dogs are the working class enforcers, who betray their fellow proles by doing the bidding of the pigs for table scraps, and the sheep are the rest of the proles, preyed on by the dogs and outnumbering both other groups, but so complacent they never do anything about it and can't take advantage of their numerical advantage.
Well.the uk, did have class system back then, dont know about now though, so there is some basis to what the album is about
@@waynedome5469 The entire western world has a class system, whether or not we acknowledge it.
There are two classes. Those who have to work to earn the right to live, and those who passively generate money based on the work of others. That's it. Those are the two classes.
@@HollowGolem I guess , there is the haves and have nots, etc will always be the case , tou had the landowners and people working for them which still goes on today to a degree.
@@waynedome5469 Not really that simple. There are plenty of people who "have" but have worked their asses off for it.
The issue are the people who barely do any work, but by lending money to start-up companies, or owning land/a building, leech value from the work of others. Even Adam Smith, whom many consider the father of capitalism, called the rent-seekers parasites. But they run everything. Because they've accumulated enough wealth that they just buy out enough people to nullify their numerical disadvantage.
They're the pigs, the people they buy out are the dogs, and the rest of us are the sheep in this album.
You weren’t stretching at all. “Dogs” is about those who are in the corporate class. “Pigs” represents politicians and “Sheep” of course speaks for itself
V&S should note if they go down the Animals rabbit hole, that in Pigs there is a reference to "Whitehouse" which is confused with the US Whitehouse, although pretty relevant now, it is [at the time of recording] referring to Mary Whitehouse who campaigned for taking away rights of certain social groups/classes in England.
dogs are also thugs and tough guys not necessarily rich. Im a Dog in some senses but I stay away from people cause I don't want to hurt them. A responsible ahole knows when to let go of people he abuses. If someone is kind of an idiot I have to let them go or I will be the bigger idiot and attack them sometimes being too harsh. Im a dog on a leash and the leash is me just staying away.
@@thedude-jb7wx Dogs are lairs that stab u in the back after u helped them..so if ur one of those...stay away..cuz this knife will be end up in ur stomch then ;)

@@thedude-jb7wx That's an interpretation that is relevant to you, but not what Roger's is talking about. But that's okay. Lennon said you can interpret songs in any manner that gives meaning to you.
Vin is right in this one. "Animal Farm" inspired Roger Waters to write the lyrics of this record, although is not an adaptation.
Hands down my favorite Floyd album, and probably one of my top five favorite songs!! Every bit of this song is perfection, and current!!
the best damn Pink Floyd album, and I don't care what any one else says. This IS Pink Floyd at their best!!!

“animal farm”was an influence. Not an exact copy of it tho
kind of an inversion of it, really
Coach Cinnamon T yeah it’s. a critique of capitalism instead of marxism like animal farm
@@pjket4229 animal farm its a critique to capitalism and 1984 is a critique to marxism

Animals is a very underrated album.
Akron162 well it seems to be a favourite of lots of fans in the various reaction videos I’ve seen. However, I’m not one of them. For me the best period is Meddle through Wish You Were Here. But on Animals I’d say Pigs is my favourite.
Out of all the songs ever recorded this is my favourite. Greatest guitar ever.
Hard to pick a favorite Floyd song, but this is one the best!🤘
Animals, probably greatest sleeper Floyd album.
Yeah. Puts me to sleep every time. **rimshot**
Not a sleeper to me. Their hardest shit
My favorite pink floyd album!
Their best. No doubt in my mind.
Animals and Division Bell.
My favorite Pink Floyd song the lyrics, the music, and that solo is just... FhhGgjJhggIigffdperfect
Yeah, that song took me by surprise, have to say. Had been hooked ever since.
Asked in a 2017 Uncut interview what his view on Animals is now, Walters replied:
"It's a sketch, a sort of cartoon sketch of how I saw the way society was organized. And obviously it leans heavily on Orwell and Animal Farm and the idea of anthropomorphizing animals to represent aspects of human behavior.
That round at the end of 'Dogs' is, I think, very powerful and quite chilling. 'Dragged down by the stone' is the last line of it. 'He was told what to do by the man...' It's a bitter reclamation against authoritarianism and against what I perceived when I was growing up
Yeah, the whole allegory kind of requires all three songs to make sense. The dogs are the aggressors, the tools of the pigs who use violence and cunning to screw the sheep and each other over, to keep the infighting in the lower classes happening while the pigs live happily off the backs of the working classes.
The dogs are every bit as much a victim as the sheep, even as they're tricked into victimizing their fellows ("sometimes it seems to me as if I'm just being used") and eventually, they're just drowned with a stone once they're not useful to the pigs anymore.
THe dogs are the police, the patriots, the propagandizing newsmen, writers, and teachers. They're class traitors who scab and undermine labor movements. They betray their own interests in the hope of table scraps from their "masters," who are only masters because the dogs protect them.
You see SO much of the attitude in this song ("you believe at heart everyone's a killer," "no one has a real friend,") in the behavior of politicians, especially center-right and right-wing politicians. Basically, because they have a pessimistic view of human nature, they create an environment where everyone ELSE has to have that view, because they fulfil their own prophecy about the brutal, cut-throat nature of zero-sum social activity.
Thank you for the info. Been listening to P F for 40 years never knew the inspiration behind this album. Be safe
I appreciate what Vin is trying to say when comparing the "We're just animals" world view to a lion eating a gazelle but the comparison isn't quite correct. The morality derived from an animalistic view of humans is the morality of the pack. Killing a gazelle is like slaughtering livestock, murder is more akin to if a lion went and killed another lion in their pack which in the animal world is also generally frowned upon. And while two different packs of lions might fight each other that is similar to war. As humans we protect those around us and we attack those that are different which is a very similar morality to animals. We are a tribe/pack based animal. But that's just my two cents.
Awesome point!! Very well said. Thanks for shining light onto this aspect of the conversation! :0)
Animals are not moral agents. So there shouldn't be a comparison between humans and animals in that regard.
people get upset if we kill wolves or dogs or such but those animals readlily kill other animals also
I would argue that animals especially pack animals have established views on what is right and what is wrong creating a moral framework for them thus by definition making them moral agents. And what I believe is that since humans are merely intelligent animals we can compare ourselves to animals around us to see where our own moral framework may have evolved from.
We are instinct driven replication bots just like any other animals. We just hide behind the illusion of a self. Our brains trick us to feel so self important.
What great album, back in the 80s I remember purchasing this album and when I got home had these 27-inch speaker that I set side by side. I would lie on top of the speakers and blast it to 11. The vibration of the speakers would vibrate the air around me and in the faint distance I can hear the dogs barking. Another album I did this to was Final Cut, Pink Floyd sure knows how to put an album together.

The stone into howl transition always gives me the chills. Such a good song
It’s about time you got around to this song!
A young man in good condition, seeking to find himself, walks through obscure paths, influenced by doubtful friendships, experiences the adventures and blunders inherent in the fascination of being young. Then, each one follows the path they chose until they met again in a fatal outcome that shows the reality of human relationships, which are partly confused with the life story of many of us.
I love this song. It paints a perfect picture of the predators in our society. The con men, the sales men, those who would get ahead in spite of all the suffering they cause. But the reason it's so great is that it shines a little light on how those people were conditioned to be that way. They don't think they are monsters. They are following a rule book in a system that is designed to use them. The sad part is that the eventual suffering comes down on them ten fold and they are left wondering where it all went wrong.
That solo at 8:31 is probably my favorite Pink Floyd guitar solo. Ever single time I get goosebumps ❤️
I love your reactions
This album is in every Floyd fan’s top 3. A lot to unpack but truly a special composition with deep deep meaning.
still waiting for " sorrow " from the pulse concert, that set of solos will put " Kurt " back on planet earth

Great reaction and breakdown. You guys really get it.
This reaction proves listening to any song off of animals is like dropping acid
Pigs= rich who control us
Dogs= cops (obeying pigs)
Sheep = the rest of us (paying ) Sheep is for me one of the 5 top songs of PF
The dogs of this album aren't cops, but corporate lackeys.

Sori is off .... this album is amazing and Gilmour’s guitar work here is amazing.
I see this song as a metaphor for life. Lying and cheating people i.e. treating people badly builds up over the years and as you get older how you've treated people reflects back on you - no friends, hence "all alone and dying of cancer". The stone represents the burden you've created over the course of your life.
I loved George Orwell's Animal Farm and Waters spin on the story is just as great. Amazing album.
Brilliant melodies, brilliant guitar solos, a master piece.
You've got "Dogs" down.... now you need "Pigs" 😎🤑🤓

Nice one u guys, enjoyed the debate & analysis. A pink floyd masterpiece & my favourite PF song, despite being a somewhat uncomfortable listen. All the more remarkable! I understand Sori struggling with it. I too found it very difficult when i first heard it. I know all their songs now, the great & the beautiful.. but Dogs is my favourite.....
Let me shake your hands . Waited for soo soo long

Even though I take Pink Floyd's music seriously, it is so hard for me not to think of that hysterical scene from "WKRP in Cincinnati" when Arthur Carlson walks in on Johnny Fever as he is playing the section when the dogs are barking. Such a classic show. That clip is worth searching for on YT.
Thanks. I'll see if I can find it. I loved that sitcom, especially "I swear, I thought Turkeys could fly".
Do I hear dogs barking on this thing? I do!
What a classic. My favorite album from them!
This is my favorite break down so far. Not just cause of the song. I was genuinely invested in the conversation. I love the song, but at some point I forgot that the song was the point of the video. You had a conversation about life, people, morality, and I loved it. Left me thinking, I learned from it, and it had me questioning some of my own beliefs haha. Very intriguing stuff, well done.
It's a sarcastic critique against the kiss-asses that constantly pick on the weaker people (sheep) to achieve their personal goals and appease the ruling class (pigs) who in fact exploit both sheep and dogs. In a nutshell.
I've been waiting for your reaction to this track for ages! The Animals album concept was loosely based on George Orwell's political fable Animal Farm, the album's lyrics describe various classes in society as different kinds of animals: the predatory dogs, the despotic ruthless pigs, and the "mindless and unquestioning herd" of sheep. Whereas the novella focuses on bolshevism, the album is a critique of capitalism and differs again in that the sheep eventually rise up to overpower the dogs. The album was developed from a collection of unrelated songs into a concept which, in the words of author Glenn Povey, "described the apparent social and moral decay of society, likening the human condition to that of mere animals".
Perfect and concise explanation of this album. Well done. 👍🏻
Other than when you did Comfortably Numb, Pulse version, I have never clicked on one of your videos sooo fast!!!
Oh shit it's finally happening. Nice treat for this afternoon!
You should listen Sheep !! The best song in this album !!
Off topic, but, with the passing, today, of a true legend, in rock music, I think it would be cool, and fun, to do some reactions to some of Little Richard's best songs.
Give it a shot!
Then how about some Kraftwerk too ? I doubt these 2 morons ever heard of Little Richard or Kraftwerk anyway.
@@cosmin98684 Why are you even here? Dump the hate, or move on. 😉

One of my favorite songs. This album is great, but Dark Side of the Moon is a masterpiece.
it's funny how you people actually pay these guys to react to exceptionally good music, if anything, they should be paying you guys for introducing them to good music. That too Dogs from Floyd, I hope you get the irony.
Yep the people who pay should listen to the song sheep from this album
About 10 seconds into the song I knew Sori wasn't going to like this song, she looked like she wasn't in the mood to do any recording before the song even started...oh no 17:00 minutes this going to be torture...that was the energy I got from her. 5 out of 10👎👎
I realize that you're saying that she started off not liking the song before the first note had been played, I get it, but I have to say that I find it refreshing that Sori didn't care for this song and said so. There are a lot of people doing reactions on RUclips and all I see is them reacting to every song they hear as if it's the best song ever written, so much smoke blown up my ass my insides must look like beef jerky... not every song heard can possibly be the best song ever. With Vin and Sori I've seen them dislike a few songs so I'm more likely to believe them when they do like a song.
That seems to be her normal state of mind on most reactions.
Yes I got that vibe from the start after a while I thought she was gonna walk out , I’d still give it one thought if she lost a bit of weight.

"Pigs on the wings" from this album was inspired in the ex wife de Waters...when she says, when we come back? Waters answer: When the pigs have wings.
Sori, the Stone part was intentional. In UK, people used to put dogs down by tying them to a stone and through them in the ocean. Hence the song name “Dogs” and the echo of stone turns into howling of a dog. The song also combines 4 genre of music. Blues Rock, Alt Rock, Prog Rock & Experimental Rock. It’s a masterpiece and many considered this as Pink Floyd’s magnum opus.
Whoa!!
Rod Jubair well I’ve lived in the Uk for 50 years and I’ve never heard of that before. Not sure I believe it
HappyAitch It a tradition that happened after world war one. It was cheaper to put down a sick dog by throwing them in the ocean
Yeah.ok..but the stone is metaphorical
Rod Jubair still not convinced, and it certainly wouldn’t be a tradition. I’m not saying someone might have done it but it certainly wasn’t a tradition.

I read somewhere that David Gilmour played all guitar tracks including the base guitar on the studio album except the acoustic guitar. Roger played the acoustic guitar. The tracks were on separate channels and they combined the tracks in the studio. So the guitar duet was David Gilmour on the album. When they went on tour, they took Whitey Ford of Everlast with them to do the guitar duet with Gilmour.
Never doubt over thought when analysing Pink Floyd, Roger had every thought covered! Everything had symbolism, double meaning, cutting political commentary. As deep as you can go in reaction, hes already gone deeper

I can sympathize with Sori. I love Floyd's extended, weird craziness. It's part of the journey. But it's not everybody's "thing." Sori seemed happier with the song before that several minutes long latter part. Lyrics are pretty profound by almost any standards.
