    Just so you know, you always want to complete an electrical circuit on the negative side. So, remove the negative side before the positive and reverse when connecting. Positive first then negative. Cheers

      i checked the instructions on my AGM battery and it says when connecting, to place NEGATIVE first.

    First off please use rubber gloves and goggles when working with battery acid. In case of an accident the battery acid might get in your eyes or skin and can result in a serious situation. Long sleeve shirt is also advised. Be safe out there.

      Tom, I actually recommend a full hazmat suit and 2x 10 foot arm extenders so there is 0 chance. Be safe out there.

    Thanks for posting. It's always helpful to make use of the Month/Year label on the top of the battery to keep track of its age.

    My only suggestion is to let people know that these batteries are really heavy. I am a 67-year-old woman in good physical shape and could barely lift the old battery out of its housing. Fortunately I was able to rig something with a dolly to help me get the new battery into the housing, but it sure was heavy and not an exercise I hope to repeat anytime soon.

    Great and helpful video. Thank you. Question, my watchdog backup battery case has two little tabs on the top and when you take them off there’s a little vent I assume this is to let the battery breathe. Do I need to leave these on or off? Thanks

    After you're all done changing out battery and hit the reset button, is there any indication that everything is ok and the battery back up is all ready to go? Is the reset button backlit or anything? Trying to help my dad with his and have never seen the system.
    We see no indication after reset.

    Hi, Why your order to disconnect and connect battery is opposite to the car battery? For car battery, the order to disconnect is negative then positive, and connect order is positive then negative which is opposite to the order you suggest.

    Does home depot also sell the acid?

    We had a plumber evenly fill 5 of the chambers on a new battery but he ran out of acid on the sixth so it was low. He then topped it off with distilled water instead of adding more acid. Now the battery warning lights are flashing. Can I empty the acid/distilled water from the sixth chamber and refill it with the proper level of acid? Will this damage the battery? Also, the sensor needle wire was disconnected from the sensor needle. I would assume this is not supposed to happen and that the wire is severed, but he claims he just put the wire back in and it works. This is my dad's house and I live out of town and am planning to go there to fix this. Any clarity would be appreciated it. Thank you.

      Hi sorry for my delay, it shouldn’t cause an issue using distilled water in the 6th cell (as long as acid did make it in there). You can also drain and refill it without an issue but note these batteries are pretty heavy. From what it sounds, the sensor is more or less causing the issue with this setup. Can you tell me your findings? (Assuming this has already been rectified). Thanks for watching!

      Andy'sVidz So it ended up being the entire watchdog control unit. The sensor was just a distraction. I should’ve know. I drove to the headquarters in Lincolnshire, They were really helpful there, and they gave me the sensor on the house but told me it was probably the unit. The unit was at least 20 years old. Replaced the unit with the same but newer model. Took the battery back to Ace Hardware with the acid still in it. They were great - no questions asked. Replaced it with a maintenance free battery.

    We’re changing our battery. Our negative cable is missing the silver circle at the end that connects to the battery, so only the positive has been attached. Does it need to be fixed too?

    • @andyg1122
      @andyg1122  3 года назад

      Matthew yes you will need both positive and negative connected for the battery to work.

    I followed all these steps and when I reattached the battery, the small yellow alarm system still has a constant alarm tone saying to add water with a red light and a blinking green light that says charging.

    I replaced the battery. Reset and tested and it appears to be working but only the charging light is lit on the control unit. Is that normal? It hasn’t quite been 24 hrs.

      Hi Jacob, did this straighten itself out? I would say it was most likely still charging.

    Can you see the acid level well for each cell?

    • @radheadrich
      @radheadrich 4 года назад

      Meaning is the battery housing's plastic clear enough to see the acid level?

    • @andyg1122
      @andyg1122  4 года назад +1

      Hi Wayne, no you unfortunately cannot see it through the housing. It can be seen through the top. The most important part is to make sure each cell is even after you top it off. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance. Thank you for watching!

      Actually if you hold a flashlight up against the opposite side you can see the fluid levels a lot easier.

    Got the new battery in the basement, took off the old one, unplugged all sensors and power to the alarm, started to put the new battery in, negative terminal connected first, and as soon as I touched the positive terminal with the correct wire sparks flew from the terminal so I am back to contemplating implementation of my original idea to take care of that annoying beeping: a baseball bat. Seriously, should the battery be emitting sparks? It doesn't seem safe.

    No need to be afraid of the power - yet every time he touches that positive wire he jumps out of his shoes.

    Can i use a car battery instead of a watch dog battery?

    • @andyg1122
      @andyg1122  4 года назад

      Hi, I would not recommend this. The batteries are designed specifically for the bulldog system (including spots for the required sensors). The car battery can lead to damage on the full system. Hope that helps! Thanks for your comment.
