You could have shown the battery back up system and cleared it up for everyone. They were advertised for computers years ago.
This was clear as mud when I started watching but you explained it in an easy to understand way. Thanks!
It was just as clear making the video! glad your liked it!
Being able to connect to the current system is huge. Thank you
Yes! Glad you found this helpful. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the info Michael! The Pump Sentry 822PS I bought from you several years ago is such an excellent setup for reasons you mention in this video. Anyone with a finished basement (or not) who is tired of rain soaked power outages that floods your basement should absolutely invest in the Pump Sentry system.
Glad the product is working as it should for you!
Pump should be replaced every 5 years regardless of use.
I like the sentry system (seriously I do - I almost bought one) but - 1) Pumps fail on their own - number one being the mechanical float switch mechanism. How do you know your primary is not working anymore? Don't have one pump if your basement is important to you 2) Secondary Backup pumps are now available with routine weekly self testing and monitoring to ensure they work, your battery is good, and you will know all about its condition via your smart phone 3) Battery pumps are available these days at higher capacities (close to the same as AC powered 1/3 hp pumps) and can handle normal events on their own in most cases 4) In a heavy water event even your primary pump may not have enough capacity and get overwhelmed - a secondary back up pump and join in to get that extra water out. 5) You dont have to get packaged dual battery pump - use a separate one - letting you run on one pump until the other is replaced. 6) You can add multiple batteries to the better made battery backup sump pump brands. Again I think the sentry system is really good - allows you to use any AC powered pump you want, high quality USA made device, but please have a primary and secondary pump and look into alarms.
.
What two-pump system do you recommend? Make and model? What is best value for money?
Just buy a batter backup unit and plug in your pump. They’re good enough for Datacenters they’re good enough for a little motor.
what units do you mean?
I get it. Gotta regularly test the backup pump. I was thinking about adding a second battery to it for longer run time. Now I’m thinking it would be better to add the battery backup system for the main pump. It gets $$. But one water intrusion is more expensive.
Checking Local Codes are crucial. Thank you for sharing
I have a Wayne 3/4 HP sump pump. I would like to get a battery backup for my existing pump. Would your system work? Thanks
Yes! The 1622ps will be the better option - diy.crawlspaceninja.com/pump-sentry-sump-pump-battery-backup-model-1622ps/
@@CrawlSpaceNinja thank you
Excellent explanation
Glad you think so!
I know this question has been answered before but I didn’t understand the replies. If your pump fails and you have this battery back up system, is there some type of an alarm or something that will alert you to the failure of the pump?
Wendy B. - You can detect a malfunctioning sump pump by installing a water alarm. When you are away from home, what happens? In the case of a malfunctioning main sump pump, every crawl space should have at least one battery-operated backup sump pump. We appreciate you watching and hope you have a happy & blessed weekend.
I need info on having a battery back up for a sump pump that's in my yard
Hey! feel free to submit a Ask a Ninja form here then! - Here is a link - crawlspaceninja.com/crawl-space-help-faq/
@@CrawlSpaceNinja. Hi, I just had to have a sump pump buried in the bottom of an egress window well. It’s been working awesome (window well floods often bringing water into the basement) until the power went out. Right now the window well sump pump is plugged into an exterior outlet. Any idea how I can put a batter back up on that? I live in Chicago. TY
I guess the main question is, is the likelihood that the primary pump will fail (while having power, whether from cord or battery) negligibly low? I'd say not really. At least here in NJ, most sumps I have seen have no problem keeping up with water entry, and they're mostly 0.3hp units. But they do fail often for reasons not having to do with power; debris gets in the pit and float gets stuck, or the float switch fails or sticks on its own, or the pump burns out altogether. In which case I'd rather have two pumps.
Thanks for sharing
On the other hand, having a second pump is a backup to when one of them fails.... Is it an exception to the rule of having a type of battery backup, when you have an automatic standby generator system?
You are correct. The automatic standby generator is going to have a bigger load than the battery backup.
What size maintenance free battery do you recommend with this?
Can I purchase the Sentry Backup Inverter/Charger in Canada?
I am not sure if they have them in Canada, my apologies.
I just bought a house with a sump pump. I know nothing about them. Mine is a single pump with a marine battery connected to it. I just bought amd hooked up a new marine battery because the old one looked really old. But when I tested it with the sump pump unplugged it didn't do anything. It doesn't seem like the battery is connected to to make the sump pump actually pump water. Is there a way to connect the battery to the pump for this? Its a liberty pump 1/3 hp.
Do you know if this system can handle multiple sump pumps? Have a friend with a beach house that has a full basement and they have 7 sump pumps grouped in different corners of the basement. They are looking for some sort of a backup in the event of a power loss.
That will take either a separate backup for each, or a whole house standby generator.
In theory he could get a multi battery bank with a large inverter to power all the pumps. Or multiple battery banks and inverters to power two or three pumps at a time.
Speaking of sump pumps At 3:41 My primary pump operated while watching this video.
haha!
That beard grew quickly
Haha thanks!
What if the primary Sump pump fails ? How would you cover this scenario with out a secondary pump?
you will have spent all that money for nothing if you have no secondary pump. Best system will have 2 pumps, for when one of them fails.
You flood. There, it's covered.
I put in a 12v battery backup system for that reason. 120v primary pumps do burn out on their own and become a single point of failure.
Shop vac until you get a replacement pump. Seems like a pump on the shelf would be better than regret.
I have rigid 1hp pomp and did Sump Pump Sentry 1622 will be enough?
It depends on how many watts your sump pump pulls, but it sounds like it. Also depends on how much water your crawl space takes on and what kind of battery you use.
@@CrawlSpaceNinja i dont use any battery i have only rigid pomp 1HP and i wanna buy this battery in future but im not sure if it worth buying

@@yournightmare9999 It should work with your pump. Looks like your pump puts out 8 amps. This manufacturer product page says to ensure that your pump does not exceed 14A for the 1622. www.secamerica.com/products/battery-backups/sump-pump-battery-backup-model-1622-ps/
@@CrawlSpaceNinja so i have to purchase those batteries soon thank you
please update and include sump pumps that are municipal water powered.
A Backup pump is nice because sump pumps fail.
I have a battery back-up sump pump. Though the power very rarely fails here, my sump pump does occasionnaly trip my GFCI. This of course leads to the battery back-up pump operating until I reset the GFCI. In other news, I need a new primary pump.
Contractors should never use cgi outlets on a sump pump plug… ever.
@@tannerotis unfortunately its a building code.
How about a Raybend , more wattage ,less expensive?
As the announcer says himself, it's confusing. A few pictures instead of talking would clarify the concepts. I gave up listening.
My apologies for the confusion. Thanks for your feedback.
excellent video explanation.
Thank you so much! Glad you found it helpful.
Where are you guys from?
Our main office is in East TN, and we have branches in Georgia and Alabama
Oh okay I work for Terminix in Chicago and we are started to do end cap for crawl space so trying to learn about it and how to sell it. Do you have videos on key points you talk about it to customers to show that value and how much work goes into it. Thanks.
Omg!
