I am not a snake owner, but I am a horse owner and I work in the equine industry. my biggest worry would be that clause being extended throughout the state. South Carolina, brings in a ton of revenue with equine related events, land, businesses etc. in the millions of dollars range. I know if it even had an inkling of affecting the livestock and equine community it would not fly. In conjunction, I can imagine how the reptile and exotics bring money into the state. No problem with freehandling at all it’s a shame Jeff is the face of that aspect of the “hobby” right now. Jeff’s a cancer to this community doesn’t care about his animals just in it for the attention he gets.
As an Australian, Inland Taipans (but let’s be real, any Taipan species) SHOULD NOT BE KEPT IN PRIVATE HOMES, they should only be kept in zoological facilities or research facilities. I know people in the zoo keeping profession and none of them own taipans, it’s insane.
Even the creator of this video has live venomous Australian species in his collection. Given that it is illegal to export almost all Australian wildlife, there is a high probability that these animals were illegally sourced (or bred in captivity from illegalky sourced ancestors).
@@MrPhantomPete I believe he said that he got them from a legal source. It didn't used to be illegal to export but it is now which is why they are rare outside Australia.
@felicityrachael1115 . Thank you for your comment. I have checked the facts and found that it has been illegal to export almost all Australian wildlife since 1982. Any Australian species in his collection therefore are almost certainly sourced from an illicit wildlife market. Logically, if he is creating demand for illegal trafficking of wildlife, then he is part of the problem.
@@MrPhantomPetehe clarified in a previous video that his inland taipan was sourced legally from a breeder of IT’s that were exported from Australia prior to the ban being put in place. It is still a legal means in which to obtain one
That poor boomslang. I hope it can be rehabilitated and live the best possible rest of its life. I hope that for all of the animals that weren't in him home at the time and will hopefully go to a better place.
Well done video, Joey. I appreciate what you said and how you said it. I'm appalled by the condition of the boomslang. No matter how long it lives, it will be so much better care with you.
Sees Geese, Ducks and Peacocks on the list. What? This bill is going overboard. Just make a bill that makes people take courses on how to care for your animal and have licences for dangerous ones. This is just going to be a nightmare for people who care for these animals properly and allow abusers to slip under the radar. Hope the bill gets scrapped.
If he's a teacher, can we not share those screenshots with the school district? They might not care about the bite, but they would and should definitely care about that kind of shit he's saying.
Absolutely wild to unnecessarily include a ban on farming - unless they know that will stop the bill passing, and included it so they can look like they're responding without actually banning people's pets?
Joey this video definitaly needed to be made! Thank you for be so good for the venomous snake community and the reptile community as a whole! I think it was great to shed some light on the incident, especially by the expert and influencer that you are! 🔥🔥
I saw Jeff's content on Instagram a couple of months before the incident. Now, I'm not gonna go into detail about my position on freehandling hots because this is a very big conversation that would require the adequate presentation of a lot of in-depth arguments and isn't particularly friendly towards highly reactive people who don't tend to hear out the other person's arguments in a discussion so I'm just gonna say my opinion on the matter can be accurately described as "reasonably liberal", certainly a bit more so than it is generally accepted. The moment one of his videos "graced" my feed I remember audibly exclaiming "What the actual fuck?" to myself; subsequently reading some of his ramblings online provided further credence to my initial reaction. Freehandling is an iffy practice - it generally shouldn't be done, however it *can* provide some noticeable quality of life for the animal itself if done right so I can see why some people (myself included) can be compelled to seriously entertain the concept (I don't include adrenaline seekers, that's just not the right reason to consider even owning a venomous animal in the first place). VERY few people seem to possess the necessary mindset to properly practice freehandling, and Jeff is, ironically, a shining example of an individual with the *completely wrong* mindset. At the very least, attacking people who choose to play it safe is highly indicative of that - if you wanna expose yourself to calculated (in his case, debatably so) risks provided that you make sure nobody but you suffers the consequences if you do end up making a serious mistake then sure, by all means, it's a free world; attacking and belittling people who don't do the same, however, is a very good example of a character trait belonging to someone of the aforementioned percentage of people that shouldn't be keeping venomous animals at all. I don't consider myself a hateful person, and I rarely find myself wishing for one's death, yet it's hard not to notice that it would have objectively been an overall net positive if he had succumbed to the bite. Always unfortunate when one idiot's actions leads you down that line of thinking.
Ngl I believe with free handling it should take a minimum of a year of getting to know the snake before taking off the gloves, and then of course don't freehandle the world's most venomous snake... Hooks and gloves are just fine, only handling a venomous animal when required is fine. As long as you take care of the animal and aren't being absolutely stupid I don't care, but he was being stupid
This is how these things work. 1 guy tries to blow up his shoes on a plane now we all have to take off our shoes at the airport. Unfortunately people are too stupid to hold themselves accountable so the rest of us suffer the consequences.
I think there was a video where he said there were marks on his floor from an axe or gunshots or something. He claimed that’s how his animals were euthanized. This man is genuinely unwell and disturbed. Accountability is not in his vocabulary 😒
I literally cried when you picked up that boomslang. Such a gorgeous snake that is literally wasting away before our very eyes. I’d normally be terrified for anyone watching it climb up the hook, but in this instance, I was barely concerned at all. That poor thing wouldn’t have the strength to bite you even if it wanted to…
@melissasullivan5899 probably very little considering how much they are banning but I also don't know how many people there have animals on the list or how many people don't care about it.
I think that 1000h per family like in Florida is a bit much and that an extra permit for Colubridae doesn’t make sense. That’s why all the Florida keepers don’t keep boomslangs. One permit for Viperidae and one for Elapidae (plus the few medically significant snakes from other families) should be sufficient. Uniform legislation on venomous snake keeping would make the most sense because a bite is equally dangerous in every state.
Animal community needs to lobby up, see what room exists to present licensure as an option for venomous critters, and make that licensure actually meaningful (focused on animel well-being and best practices).
Permitting and home inspections to hold everyone responsible is good enough they shouldn't just ban animals other people have. He was literally saying antivenom is for 🐈 until he got bit and immediately went online begging people to send theirs to him in order to save his life SMH :)
I was worried about your move🥺. If anyone sells to him they clearly don't care about animals or reptiles. I hope ark is involved as well as others. Including livestock will obviously piss off farmers!! If there's any protest forms please share as I and I'm sure others will gladly sign!!
A few things come to mind reading that post. 1. There should be some sort of IQ and mental health evaluation before you can keep any noodles of death. (This dude would have failed both). 2. What the hell? I mean sure, Joey somehow keeps several of the rarest snakes in existence alive, despite being located several hundred miles removed from their natural habitat. (We all love Kratie Perry is beautiful and we love her) And yes, we also know that when it comes to experience, Joey has absolutely none, zero, nada. I mean seriously people, we should all be ashamed of supporting Joey when he has zero experience being tagged by one of his anamals. That's just ludicrous. 3. And yes Joey's boom slang does try to kill him. However, Baggage Claim seems to be pretty chill about him......... **Parting shot, malnourished little dudes don't have 6 packs, and if Lebowitz looked like Joey, he probably would have been laid more the zero times since the Reagan administration.
How long ago did Jeff have that snake? Has it eaten since then? (I dk how long boomslangs can go w/o eating) Also who is selling him more venomous snakes because they need to be shamed. That’s so irresponsible.
Idk, but that kind of degradation of muscle mass is going to take months of regular feeds in proper temperature to undo. One or 2 feeds isnt going to do it.
Most adult snakes can apparently go a week or 2 between feedings, even without counting hibernation periods. Google just says "A long time" for boomslangs, so idk. But the fact that a snake that can probably go weeks between meals was *starving* is absolutely crazy. I'd guess he fed it less than every month for a very long time for it to get in that state. And that wasn't short term starvation either. That snake had very little muscle mass, and that only happens when you spend a long period of time without eating or getting proper excercise. It is also entirely possible he just fed the snake meals with very little nutrition.
if hes an educator that makes me genuinly scared for our future, also if that bill gets passed there will be ALOT of backlash from the community I hopw that everyone stands against this, that would be so terrible.
The fact that you could take that boomslang out just on the hook without having to keep you hands far far away just shows how ill that snake is. It is barely moving. Poor thing, I wish the best recovery for it, please update us about it :(
It might be to your benefit to contact state legislators who are likely to oppose a ban or be in favor of a permit system and offer to testify in front of the state legislature since you're pretty much the polar opposite of Jeff in the Venomous community. You're the responsible keeper that can show these politicians that no, most people who keep venomous are not like Jeff.
During the last videos where you said you were moving to South Carolina, this was the first thought that popped in my head. But i assumed you knew about them trying to pass that new law before moving, since I knew and i'm hardly a snake person. Anyway, i doubt they can get that thru with all the animals on that list. But stranger things have happened and just recently, too. Also, i have seen no one talk positively about that dude. Dingo-yes, that guy-not at all. Which probably was part of the reasons that one Institute refused to give him any of their anti-venom Good luck
I understand the city feeling they needed to do something in response to him but they bill it WAY out of control. That isn't a "consequence bill" that is government over reach, didn't they learn after what NY did? He needs to personally be punished not an entire community. Thank goodness for people like you Joey! And other really excellent examples of keepers out there!
They should have given him a psych eval before he left the hospital. If they did, they would have put him in the a pysch hospital for life. How can the pass a bill for 1 guy who is a complete mental case? This makes me so mad. Make it make sense!!
This is not a criticism but genuine concern and hoping you have good metabolism. Are you eating enough for your energy levels? I enjoy your content and humor.
I find it really funny that he calls you out for 'mistreating your animals' and how they 'live in fear of you' when in pretty much all of your videos they act curious. Additionally, in the feeding video you did, the snakes (for the most part) came out when you offered them food. That is not something a scared animal does; a scared animal hides and waits for you to leave before eating. Only 1 snake in that video did that. At that rate, its more likely it was asleep than anything else.
Sorry he has made some awful comments about you. Its pretty low to go around mocking other people's appearance because he doesn't like their style. You seem like a really nice person who really cares about your animals and I love how you help everyday folks be less terrified of these beautiful animals.
We don’t anymore taipan bites. This is why you can’t own a porcupine Also holy shit, no wonder he was able to Freehandle that slang so easily. It’s almost dead from starvation
I feel like outlawing every animal except dogs and cats is ridiculous, a lot of animals like equines, roosters and other animals that are not even venomous feels ridiculous. Also banning livestock is just stupid.
as an australian, I get concerns about this bill but honestly your exotic pet trade is so grossly unregulated. there are so many animals that should just not be legal to keep in the US as pets, including a ton of australia's native wildlife - animals that are either too dangerous to safely keep or can't thrive in someone's home.
imagine if one person got bitten by a improperly handled pitbull and the goverment ban people from owning a dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, chickens, fishes, etc
That guy is pathetic. That bill is pathetic. Because of his own foolish actions, the whole community is screwed. Taipans are wild animals and shouldn't be owned by humans.
The bill proposed in SC is almost the exact same wording that we have here in GA, but we did at least get a grandfather clause/year long timeframe to get permits, etc.
Instead of a future video about Jeff, a video about the boomslang that's no longer his in a better enclosure being healthy and happy is far more important. (The people his actions affected matter too. Didn't he also use up most of the antivenom reserves so if someone else gets bit their life is potentially in danger?) Don't care about him other than those with the power to shut him down do. Please give the boomslang the life it deserves- I have a snake who was mishandled by the person who had her before me and she showed a lot of trauma reactions. She has recovered very slowly but she is much more confident and happy now. That poor snake reminds me of her. Please don't tell the snake they are disgusting again, tell them how beautiful they are. How they survived the odds. And how they deserve so much better and that they will get it. Please. I know they are better off with you but gods I wish I could have seen them eating and in an enclosure filled with enrichment.
That poor little boomslang. It looks like a skeleton. And I didnt get a good look at its eye but Id imagine its eyes are dull and sunk in too. Thats sad. "Hey look I can freehand a half dead boomslang. Im a bad azz"
What's even sad to see that slang is that it's so damn weak that it doesn't even have the defensive behavior that they have... Heartbreaking I can't believe he isn't in jail for animal cruelty
I don't want to live next door to a guy who free handles venomous snakes. What if it bites him, he drops it on the floor, and next thing you know it's in my yard? We aren't living in the Outback, and I don't want an Inland Taipan slithering around my yard. If you can't see the reasonableness of that then damn, I don't know what to say.
Jeff is so blinded by his own arrogance that he refuses to listen to anybody telling him what he's doing wrong, then he'd abuse them and then block them.
Doesn't affect me directly, being in Australia.. but still upsetting the impact crap like this has on good people and the animals... Gah... this world is F'd........ 😢
I hate hearing more and more things like this happen . It will be horrible to watch a mass euthanasia of animals over a single guys snake bite/reptile abuse. This is a awful way to handle things in my opinion , I wont ever understand punishing a entire lively hood of animal communities and punishing animals for something that just isn't their fault . What would have been better(or at least reasonable) is venomous snake ban on hobby keeping: UNLESS you have a monitored license . and giving opportunities for rescues or rehabs to take care of these animals for research/anti-venom etc . Its a waste of lives just because they were mistreated against their will and followed instinct . Its massively unfair, this entire situation is, on everyone and their animals for one dumbasses irresponsibility and abuse.
Not a wildlife expert or owner, but I seriously DO NOT understand HOW or WHY an entire community has to suffer for one man’s shitty behavior he inflicted on his animals.

Because banning is an easy way for governments to look like they're doing something.

Poor little guy. 😢 That snake seems so sad and lethargic.
Hope the bill gets scrapped.
there could be an argument that geese are weapons of mass destruction... at least the Canada geese are.
If he's a teacher, can we not share those screenshots with the school district? They might not care about the bite, but they would and should definitely care about that kind of shit he's saying.
I will sign a petition against this bill in a heartbeat
Massive respect for speaking out against what happened here.
Absolutely wild to unnecessarily include a ban on farming - unless they know that will stop the bill passing, and included it so they can look like they're responding without actually banning people's pets?
We are with ya man and I'm glad you are a true professional👍
Don’t worry, the horse girls will not allow it.
I hope you take care of this abused boomslang! It looks so terrible :( I'd love some updates on it's health later on.
I literally cried when you picked up that boomslang. Such a gorgeous snake that is literally wasting away before our very eyes. I’d normally be terrified for anyone watching it climb up the hook, but in this instance, I was barely concerned at all. That poor thing wouldn’t have the strength to bite you even if it wanted to…
Welcome to South Carolina I hope I get to meet you one day
Thanks for bringing attention to this Joey!
While I think there should be a license and protections you should need like in Florida I think this bill is way to crazy
I agree. What are the chances of it passing?
@melissasullivan5899 probably very little considering how much they are banning but I also don't know how many people there have animals on the list or how many people don't care about it.
I think that 1000h per family like in Florida is a bit much and that an extra permit for Colubridae doesn’t make sense. That’s why all the Florida keepers don’t keep boomslangs. One permit for Viperidae and one for Elapidae (plus the few medically significant snakes from other families) should be sufficient. Uniform legislation on venomous snake keeping would make the most sense because a bite is equally dangerous in every state.
Its a local ordinance, if you own venomous snakes inside your home it wont effect you as long as you keep your mouth shut.
That poor Boomslang! I’ve seen worms on the sidewalk in better condition. 😡
Animal community needs to lobby up, see what room exists to present licensure as an option for venomous critters, and make that licensure actually meaningful (focused on animel well-being and best practices).
I swear these titles are scaring me
Permitting and home inspections to hold everyone responsible is good enough they shouldn't just ban animals other people have.
How is the health of the boomslang now going forward? I know if anyone can get it healthy again it’s you, keep us updated please !
Man gets bitten my inland Taipan, so ban chickens. Gov't is so stupid and they always over react.
We all know chickens are more dangerous than taipans. /s
How long ago did Jeff have that snake? Has it eaten since then? (I dk how long boomslangs can go w/o eating)
Also who is selling him more venomous snakes because they need to be shamed.
That Boomslang looks sad. Keep us updated on how he/she does
Uhhh wtf is that second screenshot even about? Jeff really cannot stay on a coherent train of thought in text or in speech
if hes an educator that makes me genuinly scared for our future, also if that bill gets passed there will be ALOT of backlash from the community I hopw that everyone stands against this, that would be so terrible.
I would love to see a future video on this snake if you are the one who is taking care of him
Yes I also would like to see an update of this snake 🐍 please Joey😊
Bro almost got sent back the character creation screen. 💀
Love your knowledge and content. Great and ethical stuff!
That boomslang is so emaciated, I've never seen one so skinny 😢 Poor little guy
As a horse owner this is so scary…. I did not expect them to go after livestock
Which probably was part of the reasons that one Institute refused to give him any of their anti-venom
Good luck
Really hope the boomslang recovers quickly. I love your videos Joey! Hope everything is going well with your move!
Watching that poor boomslang was so sad. I'm sure it's safe and sound now, couldn't ask for a better owner. Keep us updated on it's progress 👍
We also need to blacklist the people selling to him tbh
This absolutely sucks and is completely unfair to the people who was keeping them legally and safely
@J.A568
IKR. Its like some psycho ran around in public stabbing people with a fork. So the lawmakers solution is to ban all forks.
Nice vid, Joey. Well said and straight to the motherfuckin' point.
This is not a criticism but genuine concern and hoping you have good metabolism. Are you eating enough for your energy levels? I enjoy your content and humor.
Praying for that poor boomslang; thank you for taking him in!
Joey, I really hope you don't have to move again!!
Love your content!!❤❤
It is illegal for them to not grandfather them in. It would be an ex post facto law, that is prohibited by article 1, section 9 of the constitution.
That boomslang! Shit, I thought it was dead when you pulled it out.
That boomslang is really sad. I hope you're able to somehow nurse it back to health.
I hope so too, but it's a long road. The poor thing is barely hanging on.
I’m sending prayers for he/she to get well; was once such a beautiful snake.
We don’t anymore taipan bites. This is why you can’t own a porcupine
Also holy shit, no wonder he was able to Freehandle that slang so easily. It’s almost dead from starvation
Jeff, you need a Darwin Award... 🏆
There you go buddy and here have a second incase you lose the first one.
My dude, you keep grinding and you won't even have a toothpick left.
imagine if one person got bitten by a improperly handled pitbull and the goverment ban people from owning a dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, chickens, fishes, etc
Please. I know they are better off with you but gods I wish I could have seen them eating and in an enclosure filled with enrichment.
i can't believe anyone would be stupid enough to sell him any snakes
Pretty sure he has a cobra again? I could be wrong.
What nut case wrote this law??? PEACOCKS? RODENTS? Sounds like some Karen with an axe to grind.
Chandler and Tyler are going to be really pissed about this.
