    Awesome video! You did a great job of explaining everything in detail. The part about the magnet to retrieve the clips in the doors is a bigger thing than you think. I'm sure it's saved more than one guy from an aggravated trip to the parts store to pick up a magnet. Thanks for the walkthrough!

    Just put some of these in my truck. Your video saved me a ton of time. I have them on stock radio for now but am going to be amplifying them in a few weeks. The door speakers themselves are clearer than the stock ones but actually dont have as much bass at stock power. If you use these, go ahead and get an amplifier. You can find 2 channel amps for pretty cheap. The kicker dash speakers are much louder because they are 4 ohm and the stock dash speakers are 8 ohm.

    Job well done on the video, very easy to follow. I did mine a few years back (all 6 speakers) and the only thing I did different was add bass blockers to the 3.5 inch speakers. I also added a Pioneer self amplified 8 inch sub-woofer under the front passenger seat. The stock radio really sounds great now.

    Great tutorial. And thanks for the hyperlinks for the speakers and accessories you used. I used your video to guide my speaker upgrade on my 2011 Ram 2500 Megacab. The only thing I would add is that I used 1/2" spacers for the 6"x9" speakers in the front doors. This eliminated the interference with the window regulator and allows the speaker to be tightened down squarely in the hole in the inner door panel.

    • @admiralpiett

    I have went with the JBL club speakers. They are 3ohm speakers all the way around. Crutchfield says they won't fit in the front. But yet they come with a 1/2" spacer. I have the 3.5's in the dash with a bass blocker. The dash speaker requires a Metra 72-7902 wire adapter to eliminate cutting. When putting the bass blocker on, which it goes on the positive terminal side, I utilized spade ends to eliminate any cutting. I found the Metra 72-7902 on ebay and paid like $9.00 with free shipping. The doors require a Metra 72-6514 wire adapter to eliminate cutting. I found them as a pair for both doors on amazon for like $13 and prime shipping. I utilized the spacer that came with the speakers on the front pair and no issues at all. I can have photos later. This video was great. Thank you.

    I am not sure how many people are still watching this video. Most of the 6X9s are now a little shorter and fit just fine, but wanted Kickers and bought the same kickers as this guy. To take care of the problem of them touching the window rail and to seal the speaker around the mounting surface, I purchased and used a 1/2 inch spacer, made for 6X9s, Metra part number 82-6902. Wondering if anyone else has tried this. (Universal, 6x9 SPK Spacer 1/2 inch 82-6902.

    For those interested the Alpine SPS-619 6x9 speakers will also fit both front and back doors with no modifications. In the front I had to use the included 1/4 inch spacer and longer screws. Also, the dome & tweeter touch the plastic door grill in the front doors but do not affect any operation or sound quality that I can tell. With the same wiring adapters listed in this video the whole 4 door swap out took a little over 50 minutes.

      @High_Desert_Tanner 4 года назад +3

      It's very easy to wire a 4 ohm resistor in line with these. You can get a pair of them for about $1 and it's a really common fix for this issue. It will cut the volume of those 3.5" speakers in half and balance them with the rest of the speakers in the truck. You just cut a couple inches out of the positive lead of the new wiring adapter and solder or crimp in the resistors. This is preferable to adjusting the equalizer because IT will allow the other speakers to still produce proper sound. Simply adjusting the EQ ends up taking away from everything else. Some people just skip swapping the 3.5s altogether...

      Christopher Geschwill it's all plug and play if you get the recommended adapters from the video. The only splicing or soldering you'll have to do is for adding the bass blocker to the 3.5" . Highly recommended and super easy. If you don't the 3.5" will be trying to handle the bass that's going through the 6x9. Trust me the $6 bass blocker will balance the 3.5 so you can rock the 6x9. Hope this helps

    Very Nice Video and I had the same thing happen with my upper molding metal retainers on the rear doors, pain in the butt. I am wondering if you have wired in the amplified sub-woofer yet(I am looking at options now for my 2014 RAM). The only part I'm having issues with is how to wire up the signals from my OEM 8.4 headunit....Mine came with the base 3.0 radio and I've upgraded to the 8.4 nav..so I still have the 6 speaker set up with no existing wiring for the factory Sub. I'd like to do this myself, but I may pay to have one installed, just so I don't muck up the OEM functionality. I'd like to get your take on this since your set up is very similar to mine...Thanks!

    so I have a 2016 ram 1500 big horn. I bought the kicker 3.5" tweeters for the dash but I noticed you installed 6x9 triaxials in the door. so is there any kind of cross over built into the truck and do you want to install a 6x9 with midrange and tweeter in it in the door when you have seperate tweeters in the dash. Just wondering how that works. thanx for your time and the video.

    • @Nscalestuff
      @Nscalestuff 6 лет назад

      Kristian Thompson I put a component set in my 02 ram. I placed the 6x9 in the door as normal and the tweeter in the dash in the locations where the 3.5s were of course. It did not sound good at all. Entirely too much separation between the two speakers. I ended up cutting a hole in the door panels about 5 inches above the woofer and flush mounted them. Best decision ever. However I will not be doing that to the 2018 I bought last week, lol

    • @orionmusicinc

      You definitely want to install 3-way 6x9’s in the door and not use separate components...the 3 1/2” dash speaker is more of an “added extra” that is going to give you an extension of the spatial “highs” closer to ear level of the listener...and those bass blockers are a GREAT idea!!!

    I just installed two of these 6x9 Kickers in my truck along with the 3.5" Kickers on my dash. Seems like I can only hear the music coming from the dash speakers. The 6x9s are not putting out any significant bass or loud noise. I talked to Crutchfield and they told me that I need an amp to bring them to life.. I have a 2012 Ram 2500 Crew Cab.

      I'm going to upgrade the audio in my truck (2013 1500 Crew) also and have been doing research. From what I've seen, the 4 door speakers are 2 ohms but the dash speakers are at something like 8 ohms due to some wiring. What I'm seeing suggested on sites is to keep any speaker replacements at 2 ohms also. Switching to 4 ohm speakers (which these kickers are.. and most aftermarket coax speakers) while the head unit is putting out 2 ohms signal will make the speakers sound soft and quiet. If you amp them or replace the head unit, it won't matter. I'm considering either JBL GX/GTO speakers or Infinity Kappa series as they are both 2 ohm speakers and will sound better than stock while I save to add an amp & get even more out of them

    • @Nscalestuff
      @Nscalestuff 6 лет назад

      Eric Coggins I've found 2 ohm 6x9s on cruchfield, cant remember the brand. But as 99% of all the other 6x9s they sell, they too are too deep for the front doors of a Ram. If I knew how much of a spacer that could be used to make them work in the front doors, I wonder if it would pay off to use the 2 ohm 6x9s all the way around, and 4 ohm dash speakers, or would the impedance be too low on the front with a 2, and 4 ohm wired in parallel.... Something to hopefully get some professional answers to..

  • @sv650bighammer
    @sv650bighammer 5 лет назад +1

    I bought the same speakers and noticed the fit issue with the front doors. I figured I needed spacers, but didn't want to wait for them to get here. I ended up making a template to cut a pair of 1/4" plywood spacers. Worked great.
    As far as the wiring adapters, I also didn't want to wait for those (or pay for them) but wasn't hot on the idea of cutting/splicing wires. The OEM speakers are junk anyway, so I clipped the wires and pried off the connector and soldered the Pioneer wire leads to them. I used photos of the adapters on Crutchfield or Amazon to get polarity right.... A pretty easy DIY connector mod.

    Hey brother, I read that you are looking for more bass. If you decide to go with the under the seat sub, be careful. I bought the box that goes under the back row for my ram 1500 and the box is much more shallow than I expected and you can't fit many types of decent subwoofers in them because of that so just do some research with the types of subs you want before buying that $100+ box. Nice sound system upgrade.

      Thanks for the heads up. I have a 13 inch shallow mount sub from a previous car. I might just try and modify the box that's in to fit. I will have to figure out how to keep the air space in the box as close as possible.
