@@mimosa27 Yes! He spends most of his time in an outdoor enclosure with perches and a hutch to hide in if he wants. We bring him inside regularly for short periods at a time to weigh him on the scale and socialize with him.
I totally thought this was my friends owl, Cosmos. He brings him to the office too lol. Cosmos also makes the same squeak as he is also a human imprint.

I used to work as a security guard at Allegheny Power’s corporate headquarters in Halfway years ago (it’s now the county Board of Education building). I have to say that one of the best things about the midnight shift was being on the roof checking the HVAC units (it was part of our patrol routine) and hearing the great horned owls in the area hooting away all night! That and having a prime viewing spot for sunrises and sunsets-that was equally great!
An owl used to hang out on the fence in my back yard & I think it was the same kind because it was big & brown & sounded like that. I always thought owls were only supposed to come out at night but this one only came out during the day. It would just sit there on the fence, facing away from the house, motionless & occasionally hoot a little. Which was cool because I love owls.
A few years ago a pair of these awesome birds were staying in the tree across the street. I love hearing them in the early evening. NW Florida, beach town. Was very nice.
I got treated to my very first encounter with this call on my birthday a few years ago. We live in a heavily-populated area right along the street in a small province in Canada, so it was the last thing we expected to hear! I thought it was coming from my game, but eventually, I realized it was coming from right outside my window. I put my coat and boots on over my PJs and ran outside, and sure enough, right in the tree in front of our house, we could make out this gorgeous silhouette against the snow and the powerlines. I could have watched him for hours. It was the most magical thing that ever happened on any birthday I've ever had!
I live in the suburbs near a green belt. Occasionally I hear them at night. I’ve seen one up close in the day time. I’ve seen several Great Greys close up as well. Amazing to see.
