If not, and u don't mind the spoiler, the story is self-explanatory,and it's one of the most moving film segments I know of). The Beatles pretty much invented progressive rock, combining orchestral, jazz, folk, psychedelic, avant garde, world music elements with rock and pop songs, adding diffrrent song and instrumental sections together into longer pieces. They clearly do that on Sgt. Pepper, but Rubber Soul and Revolver are moving in that direction too. They weren't alone in expanding the boundaries of 'beat' music but were certainly one of the earliest pioneer bands of what became 'prog'.

A sweet thing was that Roger Moore, who was the new James Bond for this film in 1973 but who had already been a huge star for nearly 20 years, managed to get a tape of this song shortly after it was finished and walked around playing it to the cast and crew on location, excited and effusive about how good he thought it was.

( in the movie production, that type boat made a world record jump over land) and we used to go water skiing behind one..... Definitely not the best boat to try to ski behind, but we had a blast. Oscar winning song for the Bond movie. George Martin didn't produce much or McCartney's solo work. Paul wanted a different sound, but this was a song for a movie, not on a PM album until years later on reissues. Its not Prog, just typical bombastic action movie orchestration with Rock and Reggae in between. He gets royalties, but Sony got the many Beatles songs from Michael Jackson when he was bankrupt. PM owns all his solo music publishing rights.

What I remember is something George Martin said: The movie producer treated McCartney's recording as a demo, and asked Martin who they should get to sing it. Martin told him something like, "No, that's the finished version - take it or leave it." Apparently the Bond producer knew next to nothing about the music scene in 1973, and had no idea how lucky he was to have McCartney on board.

Kozinn and Sinclair found that this story is a misunderstanding, though often retold, even by George Martin himself. The title song was always contracted to be McCartney and Wings, but the song was set to be reprised during the film in a club sequence. Apparently what Broccoli meant was "Who are we going to get to sing it in *that* scene?"

      @strathman7501 5 месяцев назад +1

Agreed. Worth adding that the orchestrated parts are also McCartney and Wings segments. What you hear in the finished product is basically already there on the Wings studio tape before orchestration; George Martin's score dramatises and decorates the instrumentals but doesn't really add any new material. You can find audio on RUclips of Paul coaching Wings through those parts.

So much variety in pop music then - something like this would be followed by Joni Mitchell, Steely Dan, Derek & the Dominoes. Just amazing compositions, production that was discernible even through mono recordings played through tiny, tinny speakers. 🔊

La: "He was a BIG part of the Beatles... HUGE". Yessir. As I heard it, Paul was the glue that held the Beatles together, and as the band became more fragmented, John and George hated Paul for pushing them to work and fighting for better management, rejected him, and the Beatles broke up (media blamed Paul, but John quit first).
If you want to hear Paul's version of the events, check out Tug of War, another fantastic Martin-produced record, from the fantastic Martin-produced album of the same name:
    "It's a tug of war, though I know I mustn't grumble, it's a tug of war
    But I can't let go, if I do you'll take a tumble
And the whole thing is going to crumble
    It's a tug of war"
IMO the song and album are a must react. Thanks for another great record and reaction!

Guns N' Roses covered 'Live and let die' in 1991 and made it a hit single again 🤘🤘🔥🔥
Paul McCartney wrote 'Live and let die' in 1973 when he was asked by the James Bond movie producers to provide the theme song for the 007 movie 'Live and let die' starring a new Bond actor Roger Moore (who was taking over the role from Sean Connery) ... He wrote the track and his wife Linda suggested the reggae bridge in the song... The track was arranged and recorded w/ an orchestra.
Thankfully, both the movie and song became hits in 1973...

    McCartney. Paul McCartney.
The flutes in this song have a license to trill.

Really, for me this is most associated with the James Bond movie "Live and Let Die" as the theme song for the movie. That's part of why it sounds so funky. 1

It was his Beatles songs he had to get back. This song (one he wrote as the theme for a James Bond movie), is in his solo/ Wings catalog.

Theme from the early1970s "Bond" movie "Live and Let Die." Great song and an excellent "007" spy film.

Yes, you probably most definitely heard that at sports venues. It's very popular.

It was famously covered by Guns n Roses, that’s probably why you recognise it. Their version is heavier, but you have to remember that McCartney was writing for a Bond film, and they have a very specific brief.

This was written as the theme song for a bond movie, hence the dramatic orchestration; probably why he enlisted Martin to produce. Guns and Roses covered it. Might be where you heard it.

It's the song for the James Bond movie with the same name. The movie takes place in Jamaica and there's some voodoo involved. I am a fan of old James Bond movies and Paul Mccartney so it was a bonus.

As mentioned, this is the theme song to the Bond film of the same name--wild movie, check it out! They set a Guiness Book record for the longest boat jump in that one. Also Guns 'N' Roses did a banging cover.

James Bond theme song. First time a male did a Bond theme. Duran Duran did the second with "View to a Kill".
