Yes, and those days were 10+ years ago. Gymnastics has changed, whether you believe for better or worse, but this is the sport we have today and it’s still very enjoyable to watch. We also have to remember these women HAD to be near perfect, otherwise Marta wouldn’t have given them a chance🤷🏼♂️
Nastia’s long lines are absolutely gorgeous to watch on bars and beam wow but a small powerful athlete like Shawn on floor and vault are equally amazing. Like apples and oranges can’t compare and love both
I miss the more artistic element in gymnastics, particularly on beam. It's still there on floor with beautiful hands and attitude with explosive power .❤
Nothing wrong with saying this is the greatest beam routine. It’s flawless and beautiful from start to finish. And I miss stuck landings like hers. So satisfying to watch!
Except for the hands - yes. My dance teacher would have whacked me with the swatter for hands like that in ballet, or jazz.... or any of the dance genres actually.
Amazing! I will never get tired of watching nas perform beam and bars!!! Her Pacific rim 2008 routines were AMAZING 😍 she connected her series perfectly, and stuck the dismount ❤
Elegant and graceful. Such a joy to watch! As time moves on….there have been many gymnasts that did the “greatest” beam performance. Shawn Johnson was another, and many more afterwards. It’s wonderful to be able to appreciate the beauty and skill of all of them!!
I wouldn't say "the greatest" beam routine as there have been so many over the 80's and 90's.. but certainly one of the greatest gymnasts of all time, thats for sure! Love Nastia!
It's a different era, the rules dictate what moves gymnasts need to perform to compete. I think they need to continue to value the difficult acrobatics but limit the number of them they can do so the more beautiful balancing movements are retained in the sport. Simone and others do some crazy difficult routines where the bonus for difficulty makes up for the errors. S
@@robertvirnig638I think that's pretty unfair to say. Simone has proven her whole career to be a pretty clean and sharp beam worker. She's a 4 time world champion and 2 time Olympic bronze medalist on beam. Her execution has always been excellent. Obviously there have been times here and there over her 10+ years career where she has had bad routines but generally she's one of the cleanest in the field.
@@jodavitow This video was about beam, you're right her beam routines are pretty clean. I was thinking more about her floor and vault routines that she pushes the threshold a little too far.
Thevekegance, grace and fluidity is what i miss in a lot of gymnast today! Nastia Lukin(in this video), Shannon Miller, Nadia Commeci, Mary Lou Renton....those were the days of elegance, grace and beauty of ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS! DO not get me wrong the gymnast of today are doing things no one could imgaine 20, 30 + years ago....some just look so robotic. Just my opinion! ❤❤
Agreed. It's out of balance meaning it's too much about power now. You need power and elegance. That's the beauty of gymnastics...the balance of all the skills.
This routine is from four quads ago. You really can't compare past gymnasts to current ones; the code of points has changed, and the skills that were highly rewarded then are worth less now. The current team isn't "meet[ing] this standard" because standards are different.
What Biles and others do now is by far much more difficult that what this lady did here!! thats why she can do it with more ease and elegance...This girl will never be able to do this level of ease, if she had to do skills that are much much harder like the ones girls are obligated to do nowadays at the highest level....
Agreed. I am so tired of watching these gals flail and tumble down the beam. The balance moves are gone and this elegant routine is an example of what beam should be. Never tire of Nasty or Shannon Miller.
Flawless routine from a beautiful , elegant gymnast. But the routines from Olessia Dudnik in 1989 and the ones from Tatiana Lysenko, Yang Bo etc I think were in a different league of difficulty, with perfect execution to go with it. Or katlyn ohasi for that matter. Love to all of them ❤
Amazing Flow and such Ballerina-like poise. Sadly missing today despite the difficult elements. Her jumps are wild! A lot of the art is now missing from current gymnastics.
My personal favorite beam worker of all time. However, I would say that Fan Ye’s routine in the beam final at the 2003 worlds is about as perfect as you can be.
"MASTERCLASS" WITH THE GOAT, THAT PERSON CAN'T HOLD A CANDLE TO SIMONE, NEVER HAS, NEVER WILL. HER DISMOUNT ALONE WILL BEAT THAT "ROUTINE". KEEP THE WHITE HOPE UP THOUGH.
Very nice execution of artistry *and* gymnastic ability. You can tell she started dance at the same time as gymnastics...okay I'm making that up, but she has the turnout and form of a seasoned ballet dancer.
I wouldn't say the best! So many great ones! This quad, Zhou and Quiu have amazing beam routines, for once, and harder. But this is, for sure, one of the bests! I love harder acros and all... But much prefer this style... The elegance, flexibility, the flow!!!!!!! Most of routines this days have a weird flow, they just don't seem as light.
It is hard to believe but 40 years ago I trained with her father Valeriy Lukin in Alma-Ata, modern Kazakhstan, then one of the USSR republics . after the USSR collapsed Valeriy immigrated to the USA and raised Nastya, one of the greatest female gymnasts of all times. Today's gymnastics is a parody. Nothing comparable to real grace and exquisity it is missioned to be.
Simone seems to win everything because her vault and floor routines have insane difficulty (she doesn't even have to land on her feet to win). I definitely don't think she is the "goat" when it comes to beam and uneven bars. There are plenty of other gymnasts who have outshined her. Nastia and Shawn both are better for beam imo.
@@lorrainedecosta5079 well yes, that's what makes artistic gymnastics stand out from the rest. if you want more emphasis on dance elements then take up ballet or rhythmic gymnastics.
I’m sure that crouched down spinning on one foot three times thing, that they do in recent years, is difficult but it’s the least graceful move I’ve seen in gymnastics. Hi. Would you help me answering one thing. I'm trying to seach for the balance beam world record, but I can't find it. Is this the WR? If not who's the world record holder?
in gymnastics, there's no official wr for beam (or any apparatus) coz the code of points, which is the scoring system used to judge routines, changes every 4 years. these changes can include adjustments to difficulty values, how deductions are applied, and other criteria that affect scores. so, a routine that might have gotten the highest score in one olympic cycle could score differently in another, even if performed the same way. this makes it impossible to compare scores across different years or decades. instead of a wr, the gymnast with the best routine in a given year usually wins major comps like worlds or the olympics. these titles are what count the most in the sport, not a specific score. hope this helps :)
@@flipstwists Thank you for your very detailed explanation. It's a pity there isn't a world record, but if the sport is like that we have to accept it the way it is, and it's ok. Probably THE most perfect balance beam routine ever. Not even the slightest adjustment. Remember her vault in ‘08?! Still don’t know where the judges came up with a .4 deduction.

@@limxiaoqing97061 She doesn't have any E move, her switch ring gets downgraded to a switch leap these days (lack of head release), and she has no connection bonus because her connections in the routine are too slow.
Agree that switch ring won’t get credit it has no arch and head release. That front aerial to one foot is not a skill anymore. All acro series need to be rebounding so no CV there. Also that wolf 1/1 is downgraded to wolf 1/2 only since you need to finish the twist first before showing the full. Switch half front leg is low.
@@TJ-bd5iq It's funny cuz I always think of Nastia as having the exemplary switch half, and I still think that's true, but agree that in the current code she still gets a body shape deduction, maybe just a tenth though.
