Lyrics:
The more that I see, the less I believe
The barbed wire fences have replaced all the trees
The houses of God are full of sinners every week
Praying for forgiveness for those they leave to bleed
And they keep telling me, it's not my concern
But when petrol bombs fly, when cars overturn
When your see children cry because the cities are burning
Who's gonna show concern
Belfast's only half an hour away (Belfast)
Close your eyes but it won't go away (Belfast)
Belfast's only half an hour away (Belfast)
Belfast's only half an hour away (Belfast)
But the more that I see, the less I believe
Like countries split in two through religion, tradition, and greed
The devil's passed his hand those who have soultions
And those like me too ignorant to find my own conclusions
Is that what they're telling me, it's not my concern
But when I see children crying 'cause that's all they can do
They are crying for help and they're looking at you
What are you supposed to do?
Belfast's only half an hour away (Belfast)
Close your eyes but it won't go away (Belfast)
Belfast's only half an hour away (Belfast)
Belfast's only half an hour away (Belfast)
The governing powers are confused, the armies becoming bemused
Another bomb becomes defused and the terrorists aren't amused
Paisley is getting his shirt off, Sein Fien are going insane
They strike to divide the countryside but the borderline remains
Another attack leaves a widow in black, grieving for brereaved
Another kid with a brick gets shot in the back and gets left on the pavement to bleed
And they keep telling me, it's not my concern
It's not my concern, it's not my concern
Belfast's only half an hour away (Belfast)
Close your eyes but it won't go away (Belfast)
Belfast's only half an hour away (Belfast)
Belfast's only half an hour away (Belfast's only half an hour away)

Terry Hall RIP - the voice of a generation.
What a sad day, the day he passed. Struck a chord in the hearts of many of us younger generation in that day. Privileged to have heard and enjoyed his music.
Im from Belfast, i met the guys when i was on holiday in Isle of Man around the time the song came out. Had a chat about the lyrics, they came across like they really cared about NI. Absolute gentlemen. RIP Terry. Saw Neville's gig with the Undertones in Belfast last night. A great show 👏👏👏
Loved seeing David Byrne from Talking Heads there as the weather man at the end there. He produced Waiting, the second FB3 Album in which this was the first single released from it.
Great album
THANK YOU!!!
I thought that was David Byrne
Did not realize there was that connection to FB3
@@sheltr9735 No problem mate
the DB cameo 🥰 he did well producing this record!
Another classic from Terry Hall RIP
the lyrics, that bass (when turned loud) and The Godly ghostly voice of Terry sends shivers down my whole nervous system everytime i hear it, Terry has blown my head off metaphorically in so many songs, one of the gods amongst men, turned his abuse as a child into a positive and not a negative, or more so into a power. Long into the future if people look back at the 70s and 80s as being the best pop music eras ever then they will be on the right path, music to last eternity. Things don't age when they are original and sound timeless and the lyrics are relevant as Terrys always are.
Timeless
Lyrics are brilliant on this song, I remember using these on some school project or other about politics or the situation in Ireland, too long ago now to recall - I put a boot stamp across the page and the UK/Ireland map there with the lyrics on it. I clearly remember it being put on the wall by the teacher. I think back now and Terry Hall helped voice so many proper subjects to the younger generation and the country as a whole... #RIP
Brilliant story - I can relate to it ever so well being a kid in an Irish classroom when this song was released - Loving your creativity - Paisley is getting his shirt off, Sin Fein are going insane...
Much agreed! Thankfully times have changed since these wonderful lyrics and absolutely amazing voice from Terry Hall!!!!!!! God bless you Terry! Love from all fans in Ireland!!!
yeah times have changed.
Great record. If my memory serves me correctly, this was released at approximately the same time as War Crimes by The Special AKA. Two brilliant, unashamedly political records that unsurprisingly received minimal BBC Radio play.
It's like The Specials have never went away and should of been a bigger hit and debuted the same week as The Special A.K.A. War Crimes.
RIP TERRY X
The only song about Northern Ireland that doesn't make me cringe. Masterpiece.
You don't like Alternative Ulster , Careering by PiL or Its going to Happen Undertones
@@nasdkhan254he never even heard about them, sounds like a poser
One of my favorite Songs, sadly still actual! I miss Terry. His music was always by my side since the early Specials!
Gone much too young.
It was really nice of them to let the record producer do a cameo
Sparks
Love from madlaysia. 😢
❤
It ain't Crass,
As a kid, just dancing on the kitchen tile squares
Rock Over London
Imminent nuclear war
Think this is the best thing they ever didn't but I'd imagine was banned instantly

This is still relevant today #freePalestine
Free Palestine from Hamas.
The weather man looks like David Byrne.
It is
Oh no not Terry Hall 😥
October 2023 ... ...Does anybody know any jokes.
_Does anybody know any jokes?_
The British political class.
So 2024.
Terry was well ahead of his time.
DOES ANYBODY KNOW ANY JOKES X
2 comments... yeah right
Cal's vocals have really changed. Pooch's guitar is too low in this mix!
They never played this song on radio stations in America when this song was first released. Let us get real how bigoted Americans are. It's not racism but homophobia that prevented this song being played on radio stations in America.
They played it California, got airplay on KROQ.
That station kept us up on British music, thank goodness.
Dead
Such a beautiful tribute!!
@@timturpinfleck17642 - Thanks.
It's what he would have wanted.
