Something so peaceful about sitting watching & listening to a crackling fire. Congratulations on the new tractor. I’m excited for your continued growth & expansion. Well done Nathan Elliott
I have to admit, I wish I lived closer to your location. The scrap wood you toss into the burn pile is the exact stuff I use to make things (bird houses, cutting boards, small shelves - etc. I would also use the slabs from the sawmill for firewood. Stay safe young man.
Nathan, You are going to fall asleep watching that fire. If I am alone and watching a fire i will be ready for bed after about half hour. It's the best time of the day. Love it.
I always enjoy listening to someone knowledgeable talk. Most people are lost on the number of years and experience it takes to really know what you're doing, so they tend to get bored listening. And it's not just the number of years and experience, it's also the ability to retain all of it to a point where it becomes "knowledge" and also able to explain it to others in a way it can be helpful and they can learn something.
YOU KICK ASS AT SAWMILLING! I've been subscribed to this channel for about 3 years now. This is relaxing to my senses. Keep up the great work, Nathan 👍 ! Thanks again, brother.
Man if I lived your neck of the woods, I'd be hitting you up for your off cuts..like the two feet off of the eight footer for custom boxes. I see that wood go into the burn pile and 😢. Not the sap wood. You can burn that. But even that center cut Cherry, I'd let that split out and still use it for a rustic mantle beam. But, love your channel. Thank you.
Love your videos, I learn something new every time. Even after watching the same videos over and over. I’m getting a sawmill in February and I feel like I’m learning a lot till then. Thanks Nathan.
Well my Friend, you made my day again. Thanks for explaining and showing the taper in a log. I also understand …. “ It’s my saw mill” Love it! If I don’t learn something new everyday the day wasn’t as good as it could have been.
So joe main silver tipped blades are down below. So I lifted my tablet and looked. No number so I looked on my table no number I looked on the floor under the table that the tablet sits on. No number. I have 2 options now look under the house or start digging a hole. How far do I have to dig if it’s that the place. 😊
Sometimes saying goodbye to a long well serviced piece of gear is like saying goodbye to an old friend or a family pet. They've been around and seen us at our worse and our best and did their job for us and got us to where we are. I feel that way about some of my gear anyway but, hey, I'm a strange guy sometimes. 🤓
I recently sold my banjo of 20 years due to worsening arthritis. I know it's basically wood and metal, but I still reminisce about the times we shared.
I know there must be a business reason that so much firewood goes up in smoke in your burn pile. As a new subscriber it just shocked me at the number of slabs and rounds that went up in smoke. Great video though :)
From my observation, you seem to really enjoy Kato - I was so amazed at how much more maneuverable and strong it was. Seems like once you got Mr. Kato, it was time for the smaller Mr. Tym to go help out another person.
Evening Nathan, Kinda figured the tractor was about due for upgrade, 3 yrs yep that's what my Tax man says. Looking forward to seeing the new beast. I noticed that you have a Blue trailer like Mike Morgan just added to his family. Need something like that to pull behind four wheeler myself. Enjoy the burn eh camp fire. John Toccoa GA
Not sure how much digging you do , or , how involved your excavation projects are , but you might consider an excavator versus a backhoe , for the extra flexibility , especially if you get a thumb or grapple . Not concerned with your " improvisational approach " to a problem . You do what you have to .
Let me say that I enjoy your videos. I would like to see more sawing but they are your production and I enjoy watching. One question: the wood you burn, why do you not cut it into turning blanks and pen blanks? That would use more of the wood and make you more money with another revenue stream.
On several pacific islands I know about, Badu being one, the community lose at least one person a year venturing too close to the crocodile inhabited parts each evening in search of firewood to cook dinner . that lot you burnt there would have cooked their dinner every night for two years odd! Just Sayin!
Reminds me of what my parents used to say about starving children in some other part of the world when I didn’t want to eat something served for supper. If only they lived close by, they’d be welcome to it. But they don’t so whether I ate the food or Nathan burns the off cuts is irrelevant to them.
Love your set up. I am working my way to that. Have an old Norwood manual mill witg extension up to 16' cut length. Gonna take some time but will have a similar set up like yours i hope .
You should install an outside wood fired boiler, you could heat your water for free and supplement your heat in the winter with a hot water coil in your heating system.
Even as a non-business person, I understand the tax necessity of selling the tractor and other equipment churn. That churn enables a less established operation to get decent equipment as well.
Wow , give me a cup of hot brew and about 45 minutes and all will be right with the world, enjoyed every minute of your video, keep them coming. Memphis Tn
4 hot days coming Nathan to Wv...i no its still summer where you are..haa,,,attack of the Ladybugs today,,Thousands,,make sure the doors are closed and the windows...believe it or not,it was 10:30 this morning, and it was so nice and sunny outside..i sit there for an hour,,reading mail,,and drinking coffee...shopping tomorrow....love the fire..you got another tractor right,,you mow with..yes i would get a Excavator Nathan,,,just a little bit smaller then Mikes,,,dont get no tiny one..there should be something out there..that fits your needs..dont get no sun tan now..
I keep asking myself why does'nt Nathan put a couple 2 by 4s under the end rails so he won't have to use a cant hook to move his logs forward? Well Buddy?
I know that this is an old video, but I see that the red oak log had vines on it, would that be poison ivy and I see that you burn the waste do worry about getting poison ivy? Thanks John
My friend, you need to wear hearing protection while sawing with a chain saw. I have tinnitus in both ears, mostly the left, and it is permanent and total. My ears ring all the time and it could have been avoided by protecting my ears through the years. But a Marine shooting everything that Uncle Sam has is what started it, and 30 years of Game & Fish Law Enforcement with outboard motors and firing ranges and shooting in general, have ruined my ears. The problem is, you don't get the ringing immediately, it is usually years later. I woke up one morning with my ears ringing back in 1982 and they have been ringing ever since. Now, they provide (eyes and ears) hearing and eye protection on the range and will get on your ass if you don't use it, but neither the USMC nor DNR-LE provided them in the early years. I even used to use Winston cigarette filters as ear plugs for a while but stopped. Be good to your hearing and protect your ears and hearing with a simple set of hearing protection or plugs. Easy and cost effective. You will love yourself for it. jh
Not sure if you've ever done a machine tutorial, but I would love to know what that "chandelier" of metal tines on the back of the machine does. Thanks! 😊
"hey kids, don't try this at home! (lol).. Never saw anybody get so much good lumber out of lower grade logs.....Just remember....ASslong as you've got a dump truck and a backhoe....you'll always have work.
Question brother, when you say "get the taper out" do you mean making it bubble level at the top or do you line the pith up front and back and level the side with the pith
You aren't in to grilling and low and slow grilling are you? Just looking at all that wood smouldering made me think that a barrel grill on the property should be a feature.
I really enjoy and appreciate your RUclips Channel. You have cut some of the prettiest lumber I've seen and your commentary is always informative. I always look forward to a new video from you. Do you sell the cut-off pieces that have large knots or even crotches? It seems that the Apple, Cedar, Oak, Maple, Cherry and especially Black Walnut "scrap" pieces might be salable to woodworkers for wood turnings of bowls etc. Heck, even the stump ends of some of lumber logs might have Burls an other real crooked grain that would make a great wood turning but makes a bad board.
Seems to me you might be able to sell some of your unusable rounds off as firewood? Or is that just not worth your time? It's amazing what a nice fire will do to relax the soul. Take it easy Nathan! Ed

What is the source of the music that you use in your videos?
@@robertgreen8695 I believe he sees iTunes or Spotify. I know he pays for the songs to use them on his posts
Gotta admit it - I'm really enjoying the bonfire & music portions of your recent videos. Very nice, very relaxing. Thanks.
Glad you like them!

We’ve had a drought almost 4 months with a no burn warning ! I sure need to burn some scraps . Good video .
Nothing like a little banjo (maybe a mandolin) music and a rip roaring fire. 👍👊
Hard to beat
That was the best ending to one of your videos I've ever seen, and I've seen all of them !!
Thanks. I appreciate that

Hey Nathan, when that fire goes out and before it rains, get all that ash and mix it in with your compost pile, your plants will thank you
Already do
You do a great job in selecting the music for your videos.
Thank you very much!
It's like going to someone's house, that I like, and getting to listen to all their thoughts and actions, for the day! Great vid. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Best part of the day, watching the fire and sipping a beverage.

Congratulations on your new mill. I made my first down payment on my used mill. I get it when he’s finished with building his custom barndominium
Glad to help
Nothing beats being outside by the fire enjoying the evening.
Where’s your son? Seems like he would enjoy the fireside at the end of day. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for sharing with us Nathan, glad you did okay selling the TYM tractor and will be getting another one to replace it. Stay safe, Fred.
Thanks 👍
As my grandpappy would say, there's no flies on that fella . In other words, You're a smart businessman👍
Nice fire, can't wait to see new tractor
You and me both!
Good video and watching wood burning is mesmerizing isn't it?
Absolutely

Thank you for the fire. Font get to sit by one much anymore.
Yeah, we were writing off our ranch equipment on a 3 year schedule back in the 70's Our entire cattle operation was just to have a write off.
That's a good problem to have when you have to buy a new tractor. Looking forward to seeing the new one.
Great fire Now that we have snow in Alberta I can burn dead trees and clean up my acreage Too dry in the summer
Nice plan

Enjoy your videos, can the sawn boards stacked above the blade as you are cutting place strain on the blade/motor?
It does not

Send him a new boiler

Good catch! That was poison ivy, and yes, I burn it all.
Good video Nathan
Nathan why dont you elevate the 6x6s on the floor so the logs you put on the mill roll onto the loading arms?
The old cowboys never stared at the fire.
love music and the burn pile. good combination. ...dulcimer? or guitar and banjo? do the artists have websites?
A mini excavator with at least a thumb if not a swivel knuckle would benefit you well. Then a basic tractor for actual tractor use..
I miss that tractor already.

Hey did I notice a Joe Maine Silvertip in your saw? I wonder how I can get in touch with him.
lol
is the tree tapered all around o jut 2 sides
Maybe an odd question, but why don't you cut about half the log from each end so you don't have as much checking to cut out?
It’s still over the length to allow for trimming

They ensure that cut timber comes back straight.
@@tonygrimes13 that surprises me since they seem so flimsy. Interesting!

thx
Thanks for sharing.
You bet
Nathan what is that pile of logs at the back of the saw mill
Future sawing of course!
GOOD ON YA MATE.
Question: some prices/logs you burned looked like they would make good firewood. Why burn them? Is firewood a possible profit area for you?
don't have time
Sense these boards are going to be used as decking on trailers will you still be drying them or will they be used as is once they are cut?
You do what you have to do to survive in the business world.
Great video!
Thanks!
hello nathan it's is randy and i like yours video is cool thanks nathan friends randy
I'm waiting for the video when you finish the chicken house. I seem to remember you mentioned you were on that a few videos back. ? ? ? ?
Working on that this week actually

Even at 12:45 in the morning 😄
👍👍👍
Chillin' by the bonfire. 👍
Good looking fire

Love it! Just now subbed 👍
Awesome! Thank you!
Where are the hotdogs and marsh mellows when you have a nice fire like that?
