Great to finally see a review of emit 50’s, I’ve owned mine for about a year and a half and have had them puling double duty as my 2 channel and front stage and I couldn’t agree more with everything you said. I’ve listened to speakers two to three times the cost and am always impressed how my dyns hold their own. I have the 20’s as well and man are they impressive for 1000 bucks! Great review

I had similar impressions with the Marantz 8006. I was afraid of the lack of drive, where people write about it all the time on forums. But it plays really great with Dynaudio emit 30 v1. I already thought that I would have to buy the mm 7025 power amplifier, but the engineer himself on their channel said that it all depends on how loud we want to play, then we need more power.

I have a pair of Duntech PCL15's ( my dear old dad was mates with John Dunlavy when he was based in Adelaide, Australia!), and Dual concentric Tannoy Saturn S8's which I alternate depending what I am listening to. Do you think the Emit 50s will get close to the imaging of the my old Duntech's and the bass extension of the Tannoys? I've been looking at the Emit 50's, and I'm hoping they will be a One Speaker to Rule Them All, but perhaps not :(

I have never found a speaker that rules them all. There are almost certainly gains and losses in all of this. I have not heard the old boys you reference, so I won't speculate on things I have not had in my room. But it may be worth ordering and auditioning to see. That will be up to you. I will say, I have not heard many speakers do bass as well as Dyn, they got that locked in.

But we are kind of comparing apples to oranges in a sense. Bookshelf VS full flagship tower in the Emit Series. If it were me and I did not have a badass sub already, I would probably go Emit 50 if my budget was $2500. Cus the Sonetta + a sub and to get a quality sub, you'll be $5000 easily. OMG, it takes 6dB to get a noticeable volume increase. It takes 10dB to get, psychoacoutically, an apparent doubling of volume. It takes double the power to get 3dB. So, the difference between 50w and 200w is “a noticeable” difference in volume.
If one can hear a difference in volume between a 45w and 200w amp, one is playing loud enough to damage his/her hearing, and soon, one will hear a lot less.
