Was in the Hunter Valley 2 weeks ago, and the Video 📹 was a reminder how that the Railways are the most practical to shift the Coal to the Port in Newcastle..
Coal and grain as well. Given the right patting and infrastructure everything just works.
As a kiwi 🥝 living by the NI MT, the North Island Main Trunk Railway 🛤 tracks ,also as I Visted W A and N S W, therefore saw 👀 massive amounts of Freight Movements, and to Honest if isn't for your videos, and the educational process that you provided, alas I would have been none the wiser, so thanks very much...
Super catches. Great looking locomotives. Thanks for sharing. Dave
Thanks Dave!
@ 4:51 thats QR National, which it's headquaters is based in Queensland
Which is now Aurizon the former QR National Freight. Some locos still have the old QR National logo.
As a guard on Newcastle depot passenger trains that's certainly a familiar sight. 100 wagons at 120T each loaded. That's crazy tonnage...
Yes. The locos do an amazing job. 24 hours a day 7 days a week!
I used to work at Thornton Station many yrs ago as a J S A !
Still friendly staff up there as well!
great video
Thankyou mate
Those dedicated tracks behind the Maitland-bound platform aren't just for coal, they're also for wheat and other cereal crops, but that's a continuing story(cereal - serial! LOL) and there is a "grain" of truth there! LOL again!
actullly can be used for long distance passenger also
@@youtubeviewer7030 The line could theoretically be used for long-distance passenger trains but the sole use is coal and grain trains. XPTs going to Werris Creek to split for Armidale or Moree, or up to Kempsey will use the regular passenger line.
Neil Forbes you forgot Brisbane
@@youtubeviewer7030 I think Brisbane is the furthest north that standard-gauge rail track extends. Much of Queensland's railways are narrow-gauge.
Neil Forbes Neil don’t you know the XPT goes to Brisbane
Interesting wiper action on those locos. The yellow livery rather shows the dirt doesn't it.
4:47 is an impressive load for one loco. Ah, there's another one assisting in rear.
There are a couple of trains that require push pull. I don't know much but I can only assume there is no bubble loop for loading.
Thornton railway station is located on the Main Northern line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves Thornton in the eastern suburbs of Maitland opening in 1913.
The original station opened on 1 August 1871 as Woodford and was renamed in 1887 to avoid confusion with Woodford station in the Blue Mountains. The line from Tarro was duplicated in 1880 and quadrupled in February 1913 when the current station opened.
To the south-west of the station, the Bloomfield Colliery branches off.
Yes there was a Ballast train running from there that day from memory.
in typical New South Wales fashion the weather setting is the first of the ECL that will continue until june the most memorable ECL accured on 25th May 1974 winds reached the speed of 165 km that record still stands
I don't have much luck up there. I either get no trains or lots of trains with rain!
Brendan, hello, I saw where NSW, has had some flooding from rains Hope you & yours are fine, Cheers bFrom NJ,,,,,USA🇦🇺🇺🇸
Mate I'm fine in Melbourne. Sydney is expecting more rain today 8cm or more!
We'll just call them all "John" like the blues singer! (Jon Coltrane - coal train) LOL
people wouldn't get that joke LOL
@@youtubeviewer7030 Blues Music fans would get the joke!
Neil Forbes but anyway by looking at this line it really needs upgrading
@@youtubeviewer7030 Surely it doesn't look that bad!(Yeah, I know......Don't call you Shirley! LOL)
Neil Forbes call me beryl instead it sounds so Australian 🤣
Those trains may be going "lickety-split" on the way to Maitland and beyond, but their speed will be tempered somewhat when they come back to Port Waratah fully loaded(must be hard traveling with a split lickety! LOL).
they can come right down to melbourne
@@youtubeviewer7030 On the Standard-Gauge line, they do.
Neil Forbes of course on a standard track
@@youtubeviewer7030 Aber naturlich, mein Herr!
Neil Du hast es in einem Kumpel
how long are the longest of these trains?
The length varies but can be up to 1.5 km in length.
Usually 96 wagons long which is the maximum the loading/unloading loops can handle
Who wants to go to hunter valley
I'm due for another trip! It's a great few days catching the trains.
7:12 See what I mean? I think a couple of snails and a tortoise have just overtaken this loco #9015! LOL
in typical New South Wales fashion the weather setting is the first of the ECL that will continue until june the most memorable ECL occurred on 25th May 1974 winds reached the speed of 165 km that record still stands
@@youtubeviewer7030 Don't remind me! I was still living at Stockton then. That was the year, and the month when the Sygna was run aground on Stockton Beach.
Neil Forbes yep I had rellies living there at the time describing it as the storms of all storms
@@youtubeviewer7030 It was a Shocker, Barry Crocker!
@@neilforbes416 the adventures of barry mackenzieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee (hearsa a window smash) oh dear that's done it LOL
thats a very uneven track
Better than most of the freight lines in Victoria though.
Nice video! Shame about the sound.....
Yes. Rain and wind really played havoc with everything that day! It wasn't the best but you take what you get.
great video
Thanks 😀😀
