Dude ! You’re THE man. I spent what seemed like hours trying to get my new av receiver to recognise my Samsung tv. After two minutes of watching this video it connected! THANK YOU 🙏. 🍺🍺
Omg I have been looking all over the place for a solution on why dolby digital + was greyed out. Who knew it had to do with me being in the Netflix app and only had to exit the app. Wish I had found this video earlier. Atmos is working like a charm with my soundbar now. Thanks a bunch.
Do I need an atmos soundbar n woofer for atmos or could I just use a standard sound bar and woofer? Oh and could I use a standard hdmi cable for the earc?

Very helpful. I had eARC setup on my Samsung TV/Denon but I didn't have it set to passthrough on the Samsung TV. After I set that, the sound is amazing!!
Awesome video, very helpful! One question: What type of HDMI cable do I need if I wanna connect my TV and soundbar via eAEC? Does it have to be a 8K Ultra HDMI or is a standard 4K Premium HDMI enough? In different words: Are there any 4K Premium HDMI cables with eARC compatability on the market?
Awesome video! Quick question im setting up my new q90t. I would rather use my xbox for my apps vs the tv. Should i plug my xbox directly into my tv (using earc) or my reciver for the best sound? Thank you!
Don't forget that CEC (Anynet+) needs to be turned on before you can even select Atmos; it also allows the receiver to "advertise" it's Atmos etc to the TV making it a little easier in most cases.
So im here and i have 2 choices, the 55 inch phillips Led (2021) with dolby atmos and vision and ambilight, costs in norway 650usd, or i can buy the samsung Q70A for 550usd, Which one should i get? i have the newest samsung soundbar package with extra side speakers and subwoofer and i will mainly use the tv for gaming and movies. Last time i checked samsung cant give us real dolby atmos, only digital plus, while the phillips can give real atmos and dolby vision. What do you think?
Hello Techno Dad, many thanks for your kind uploading this video which is very helpful. Recently, I have bought Samsung 75 inches CU 7100 television and did the set-up of e-Arc in my new TV and Sony AV Receiver. When trying to watch movies through Netflix and Amazon Prime, my AV receiver shows only PCM audio even though the movies are with 5.1. However, it is OK with the movies with Atmos sound. I have tried to fix the audio sound of for 5.1 sound movies but am unsuccessful. I, therefore, request your kind expertise help. Thank you in advance for your kind expertise help/suggestion. Good morning! God bless you and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I am writing because currently I am having a hard time deciding between the JBL 9.1 or the Sony ST5000. I live overseas so I cannot think about returning any after trying. I look for the most immersive 3D overhead ATMOS sound and a Punchy Rumbling Bass. Also for Stability and less glitches if possible! Thing is next year I want to buy a new TV with eARC as my current Samsung NU7090 is only ARC. I have heard users say the Samsungs eARC, LG, and Sony have issues with the JBL causing audio drop outs mostly for Atmos streaming. So basically in conclusion, which soundbar would you choose? Would you wait for CES 2021? Please consider I use Apple TV 4K P.D. I am currently selling my Sony Z9F and rears because it failed to provide overhead Atmos and just had a boomy bass.
Nice Review. So, if I'm not wrong, what You said is that it's not possible to get atmos directly via the streaming apps on the tv to the receiver, without an external device such as a blueray?
Okay, so I was using an external player to test eARC functionality. eARC will passthrough an uncompressed Atmos signal. The TVs apps will be sending a compressed Atmos signal.
Hey, I have a QN90B Samsung TV connected to eARC3 to my soundbar Sony HTG-700 on eARC as well. But when playing Dolby Atmos content from DisneyPlus or Netflix it just shows PCM-MC on the soundbar.. Is it ok ? Should I buy a Nvidia Shield or Apple TV to be able to activate the passthrough option ? Also If I buy one should I plug it directly to the soundbar or TV ?
For 2020 I've been trying to compare and contrast in deciding which 8K (Sony Z8H, Samsung Q900TS, or LG 75 NanoCell 99) television with eArc to buy. To fully utilize Dolby Atmos with my Sonos (Arc, Sonos Ones and Sub) home theater system. From Samsung Q900TS specs., their is Dolby Audio but no eArc? What's your opinion?
Hi there! Always appreciate your videos, good sir! I just bought a q80t and a new hw-900t soundbar, but I’m having major problems when connecting an Xbox one S to the tv. The soundbar gets lossy atmos fine from the tv sources, but anything played from the Xbox has a noticeable delay, and if I play a 4k blu ray with lossless atmos, the sound mostly doesn’t play at all. If it does, it cuts in an out. I’ve checked to ensure all devices are up to date and I’m using two 8k HDMI cables to hook up the soundbar and Xbox to the tv. I do notice that pass through is greyed out when using the Xbox too, so I’m not sure what to do about that. Sadly, Samsung support has been no help whatsoever. Any guidance or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!
I am having this problem with my Q80T and my PS5. My understanding is the both PlayStation and Xbox output LPCM audio natively, however Samsung TVs are incapable of passing through this LPCM audio as 5.1 or 7.1 surround and instead downmixes it to stereo. On my PS5 I can change the audio output to Dolby which then does pass through to my soundbar in 5.1. However because this is not the native audio output format, the PS5 is converting LPCM to Dolby. This is what is creating the audio delay (as well as compressing the audio and ruining the quality). Perhaps this is what is happening to you with you Xbox too? I can see that this comment is 10 months old so if you have had any improvements or found and work around since then please let me know. Thanks!
@@xfan420bush9 the solution I found was to upgrade to Xbox series x. Haha. Never could figure it out on the other one, but it works great on the series x!
Hello. I have the opportunity to buy a Samsung HW-Q960A soundbar for my Samsung Q95T. Is there any way I can get atmos sound? It is gray shaded when I go on my TV menu screen. The connections I have are PS5 connected to hdmi 2.1 port, and cable tv to hdmi port 1, PC to hdmi 2.

Hi i have a question: i got the q70t 2020 and im planning to buy the sonos arc soundbar. It says in my tvspec that my tv support dolby digital plus. Will i be able to get ATMOS or not? I liked this video alot btw!
Hi Tech Dad, just found this vid. Very informative. I have the Q90T and a Vizio Elevate sound bar and love the setup. This vid answered a lot of questions, especially the greyed out audio passthrough when using onboard apps. An observation: When playing Atmos or DD+ 5.1 via the onboard apps, the info coming from the Elevate indicates it's Dolby Audio/Atmos via Dolby MAT (Metadata-enhanced Audio Transmission ). When using the Blu ray player or apps via Chromecast or my X1 box, it's now in passthrough and the info indicates Dolby Audio via DD+. My question is: Is there a difference in delivering the audio between MAT and DD+? Both methods are being sent via eArc, according to the Elevate info display. No issues with performance, sound is great. Thnx!
Great vid, i have a question, if my q80t hdmi is earc and my home theater is only arc it will works fine? Are they compatible? Or am I going to loose some quality in audio, thanks
@@danieldiaz698 my old tv was only arc and my home theater is arc too, i bought a new tv which is earc and i see, well i hear a little improvement over the old sound

Great video, I am getting Atmos when I stream Netflix through the TV app, however when I use my Fire TV and used Netflix, it does not show Atmos? Is this normal? Is there a away to have Fire TV to be Atmos compatiable?
I’ll soon be buying a 75 inch Q90T along with a Denon 3600 AV receiver. I’m having a little trouble understanding the input situation. Apparently theres one eArc hdmi (#3) and one 2.1 hdmi (#4). I understand earc is for ideal audio and 2.1 will be ideal for ps5 gaming. Since i originally thought the point of the av receiver was for all devices to be connected to the receiver, then just one hdmi cord from av to tv for video passthrough, i’m having a hard time grasping the two hdmi cords to the tv. Are there situations in which i’ll have to decide which to use, earc or 2.1? Any information or resources would be greatly appreciated if possible! Thanks so much
Hi there. I am doing the same but with the 8k denon receiver. There is only 1 input from denon that supports earc. So it would most likely to be for your main source. The other hdmi is for your ps5, which will be at 8k 60hz only. Both 2.1 connections are hdmi 8k capable.
thank you for the great vidieo. There is so much click bait and junk out there, but you my friend, are the real deal!!!!! I subscribed, great content. Keep it simple for us older folks that are not really tech savy!!! Great video and thank you for making it.
Awsome, thanks! I didn't think I would find this info especially not this easy. I have a couple of devices that can play Dolby Atmos and a soundbar that can play Dolby Atmos. I was just about to order a Samsung Q80T when I saw that that it doesn't have support for Atmos and others TV's do. This was a relief. I can keep a lower budget :)
Hi buddy,,I’ve got a Samsung 65 inch 4K hdr but it’s only got ARK and not eARK,,I’ve just bought the Sonos arc but not sure if I can get atmos on my tv because it’s not got eARK,,,I’m wondering do I need eARK to get atmos 👍👍
Could you share the samsung q soundbar + samsung tv settings for gaming consoles like ps5 and xbox series? I feel that tv speakers are producing whole range of sounds compared to soundbar.
Ok I have a stupid question… I just bought a q85 and a Marantz 6015… they way I always connected my home theater is all sources to the receiver and one hdmi out to the TV. In this case I was going to connect to the HDMI 4 on the TV because it is 4K/120 and apparently it is the only one. Is this wrong??? Should I connect the xbox,Roku and bluray player to the tv and then eARC to the 6015??? I am lost.
This saved me major aggravation last night! I just checked the Pass Thru, works on HDMI 2. Maybe all HDMI ports will pass Atmos, via a firmware update? Why wouldn’t you connect all sources to the AVR and just use the EARC on the Tv & AVR? The EARC should pass lossless Atmos over this connection to the TV’s EARC. If connecting devices to the TV directly I get it. I have a B & O Beosound Stage with only one input. So this a great problem solver. It also will correct lip sync issues because the Pass Thru is eliminating processing from the TV causing a timing lag. I also had to go into the setup menu in my Panasonic 4K Blu-ray player. Audio output needs to be set to bitstream & BD-Video Secondary Audio set for Auto or off, to pass Atmos. Downmix set to surround.
Hello, I’m thinking of buying a Sony x900h 55” and I currently have an wharfedale vista 200s sound bar. This sound bar has a hdmi arc connection. The Sony tv has an EARC connection. So my question is will I be able to get atmos sound or wil the sound bar also need to have EARC?
I am not in the market for a television but if I was this is the man I would go to for buying advice. I watch because I can't not watch a video if Channa put in the effort to make it. It is the least I can do for all he does for us.
Hey Techno Dad. I have a Q70 and my question is, when I watch Atmos content from the tv apps, there’s no sound on my Onkyo receiver til I mess with volume. Then it kicks in. Is there a reason for this?
Hi Techno great video. My setup I have all my external sourced going into my denon X-ray-3700 and just my tv using the arc input on the denon. One of the external sources I have is my Android shield box streaming device. Sometimes when I click that source on my remote the screen will come up to play but then automatically switch to my tv source. How do I stop this from happening? Once in awhile I will get an error pop up on tv saying I an input device has been detected trying to use arc I think . It may be referring to the shield streaming device?

@@TechnoDad I think I have the same concern, I bought a Q800T soundbar, and connected the the eArc HDMI from the sound bar to my TV Samsung UAKS7000 HDMI Arc, tho my TV is a 2016 Quantum dot model that don't have the eArc HDMI port, is that the reason why I'm not getting the Dolby Atmos on Netflix?? Its just 5.1 Tho when I go to the TV advance settings and to the sound it is in Dolby Digital audio format, and HDMI audio format i chose Bistream not PCM coz it has only has that 2 choices, does that mean I'm not getting the Dolby Atmos coz my TV is not eArc supported, and its not the latest model?? Or is there any other way to fix or do something about it. By the way great and informative video, very clear. And I'll wait for your reply, thank you, more power.👍
Here's a crazy thought....can you try and connect a 7.1 through hdmi and try to select the Atmos compatibility. If there is luck we maybe able to use a 7.1 ch as a 5.1.2! Can you try it?
@@TechnoDad Thank you so much for the compliment 😇. if we think about it, it'll just reconfigure the 7chs of the atmos into the 7chs of the surround... Basically, we'd have to check which of these are the height speakers and voila...! We got atmos config 😉!
Hmm so I have a few questions regarding sound bars and 4k pass through. So... The new game consoles (Xbox and Playstation) are coming out this year with eARC and HDMI 2.1 support. I have the Samsung Q80r 4k tv which currently does not support eARC or HDMI 2.1. However, I plan on getting a Samsung hw-q900t soundbar which does support HDMI 2.1 and eARC (just like the Xbox Series X). First question, is it possible for an HDMI 2.0 port to be upgraded via firmware to 2.1? Second, if the new Xbox is connected to the soundbar, would I still get to take advantage of eARC even though my tv doesn’t support it? And third, if the soundbar supports hdmi 2.1, 4K video passthrough but the tv only has hdmi 2.0 (and ARC) would my tv be able to display the 2.1, 4K passthrough even though the signals would be coming from the Xbox and soundbar (sort of like upscaling or upconverting)? My tv does natively support 4K @120hz btw. I’m asking because idk if I’d have to buy another tv to take advantage of these technologies.
My Q80T wasn't connecting correctly using Earc after turning off the TV and turning back on. The Sound was dropping out during movies. I finally found out that Samsung has had a problem with the earc and the fix is to toggle off and on the earc until it reads earc again not just hdmi.
i have a further question....my system has no receiver...i have the Sonos ARC 5.1 set up...i am getting a new tv ( Q90T ) and a panasonic 9000 or an 820.......this is my question....do i hook up the sonos arc ( eArc ) to the eArc on the TV , the blue ray to HDMI 1 ,.... and the cable box to the HDMI 2....does that all sound right ? thx a bunch...new at the tech stuff...lol
Super helpful now I wana leave work. Lol been so frustrated about this Edit. Never worked i had to connect everything to my tv and arc back to my receiver. Instead of everything on my receiver and only the arc to my tv. Every day I had no hdmi connection had to unplug the tv everytime
I LOVE YOUR REVIEW.... I AM IN NEED OF SOME HELP. HoW can I run this set up and get TRUE DOLBY ATMOS and FULL 4k with the Phillips HUE SYNC BOX. I have the Samsung q90T and the SAMSUNG HW-Q 950T
I thought all components had to be eARC for eARC to work? It didn't look like your receiver had eARC, but it showed 48 kHz? Or can any receiver be used to pass through 48 kHz? Also, what about sound bars, do I need to have an eARC soundbar for it to fix lip sync?
This specific AVR has HDMI 2.0B ports which support eARC, ALLM, and VRR. It wasn’t something that was advertised a whole lot so when they built them, no eARC label on the back. For fixing lip sync issues, there should be a setting on the TV itself.
I noticed this too, Was wondering about this as I’m about to purchase a Q80T but my Onkyo TX-RZ3100 doesn’t say anything about eARC and was hoping to get a little while longer out of it yet.....
Thx so much.. I was worried for a while with Samsung... I own 2016 Samsung SUHD TV + Denon X3600H and its not able to do pure HDMI passtrough :( ... my friends Samsung 2019 also having issue to do that... so it seems that 2020+ line of TV might be for me
Hey. Can I use the q900t soundbar for my 2019 q67 TV? I know I can not use q symphony, but otherwise? I also think a bit about LG sn8yg, what is best lg sn8 or q900t?
Excellent video! I've spent numerous hours trying to figure out why my new Samsung 75" Q7DT 4K TV would only output PCM to my Marantz SR5014 receiver. Thank you for explaining the issue. I was under the impression that any TV built-in app that supported ATMOS or for that matter DD, could be sent to the AVR in passthrough mode. So based on your explanation, I may be better off connecting my external devices (Blu-Ray player and Firestick) directly to the HDMI inputs on the TV; rather than my AVR, then use the Passthrough route back to the AVR.
Can you do a video of what I need to work with a setup of a LG CX/ps5/sound bar that can take advantage of 3D audio by PlayStation? I have the tv waiting on ps5 release but I don’t know how to set up the best audio. Do I need 2.1 pass through? Or just eArc?
I don't know what format PS5 is going to be using to deliver their new 3D spatial audio. I think they still need to work on getting the audio out of the PS5.
Hi there, great videos always, when I press the home button on my q800t and go to the receiver it doesn't say HDMI, it just says hdmi3 and underneath unknown, I have an Arcam 390, any ideas on what to do? I don't get arc at all, thank you in advance
I recently bought the Q80T TV. Do I need a nicer HDMI cable to connect the eARC to the soundbar? I have the 2.1 cable for my PS5 but didn't know if I need the high end cable for all connections.
Thanks for quality information. Had a doubt though. If my soundbar setup supports Dolby Atmos while my TV does not have Dolby Atmos in it. And I connect the soundbar to TV via HDMI eARC (supported on both of them). Will I be able to experience true atmos? Thanks

Is it correct then that you can't get atmos to a sound bar if you are using the netflix q90t app? I have a q90t connected to a q70t soundbar using earc. I can get armos from my skyq and xbox plugged directly into the TV, but even though netflix shows the atmos logo the sound isn't sent to the sound bar in atmos.
Question. I've decided on buying the Q90T with a series x and a sound bar that is eArc compliant. Can I run a 48 Gbps HDMI cable from the Series X to HDMI port 4 (for all the visual benefits of 4K 60fps or 120fps) and run another 48 Gbps from the eArc from the TV (the HDMI port 3) to the soundbar's eArc input to get the best sound quality? Just trying to get the best of both worlds if possible.

Can you get uncompressed audio from a movie that is directly plugged in to the TV via USB? (Not any external player)

Martin - Were you able to get Atmos w/ Q70T and Sonos Arc? I have the Sonos Arc and am considering buying the Q70T
Thnx!
Does your Q90T automatically turn on the sound bar when the TV turns on?
Great vid, i have a question, if my q80t hdmi is earc and my home theater is only arc it will works fine? Are they compatible? Or am I going to loose some quality in audio, thanks
It will just be arc. To get eARC both ends have to be eARC
Darn i was stuck on that. My sound bar only says Arc =/
@@danieldiaz698 my old tv was only arc and my home theater is arc too, i bought a new tv which is earc and i see, well i hear a little improvement over the old sound
Just connect second HDMI as well as e arc to the other port of the TV. It will give passthrough to AVR
I have a Samsung Q 70 R and a pioneer elite VSX - LX302 they both have arc a question to you is with the Panasonic UB 9000 blu-ray player what is the best way I should hook up the Blu-ray player directly to the TV or to the receiver

Thank you so much! Welcome to the channel!
Great video. I had to reload Netflix for Atmos to work.
I am lost.
I have the Q80t and bought the 4k firestick and I'm now getting Dolby Atmos on Disney plus.
How? I have asked Samsung and they repeatedly tell me that there TV's are not capable of getting Dolby Atmos?
@@pascalyc my Q80T Samsung has dolby atmos capabilities using a soundbar.

How about the auto volume? And the spatial audio is better off or on with samsung soundbar???
Not sure with the soundbar setup.
What’s the better choice in ceiling speakers for atmos. Closed box or open air?
Closed box if you can.
Nice Ron!
Thank You. I checked the B&O App it was showing Dolby True HD. Now it displays Atmos.

Hey Techno Dad. I have a Q70 and my question is, when I watch Atmos content from the tv apps, there’s no sound on my Onkyo receiver til I mess with volume. Then it kicks in. Is there a reason for this?
Thanks for this ! Also works on my 95A tv.
Nice!
Thanks for Video Bro.. should this same method work with Xbox one x or Series X for dolby atmos ?
No
Hi Techno great video.
Hi just bought both the new Xbox and a Samsung 85inc QN85Q90TAFX just wondering if I should put my HDMI cable to game or erc? Thanks

Heyy bro nice video!!!! I have Samsung Q800T soundbar and I have put the HDMI 2.1 in Earc port in my Samsung tu8200 tv and the other end in hdmi Earc/arc and it is showing the logo of Atmos in Netflix so does that mean I am getting Atmos but on the soundbar display it is showing eArc. Hi! That means the TV is sending out Atmos. Whether or not your soundbar is outputting Atmos is a different story.
Have you suffered any audio lag when using an external device ?
No, but I did only have it for one month and there have been so many changes since I've had this TV in house.
Here's a crazy thought....can you try and connect a 7.1 through hdmi and try to select the Atmos compatibility. If there is luck we maybe able to use a 7.1 ch as a 5.1.2!
Can you try it?
Sorry man, I don’t have this Tv anymore. Cool idea though.
Are you sure? Do that work for you without sound lag etc? Have you tested with ps5?
i have a further question....my system has no receiver...i have the Sonos ARC 5.1 set up...i am getting a new tv ( Q90T ) and a panasonic 9000 or an 820.......this is my question....do i hook up the sonos arc ( eArc ) to the eArc on the TV , the blue ray to HDMI 1 ,.... and the cable box to the HDMI 2....does that all sound right ? thx a bunch...new at the tech stuff...lol
I missed the part where you got Atmos to work. My settings are the same as yours (except my receiver says HDMI-eARC instead if just HDMI)
Super helpful now I wana leave work. Lol been so frustrated about this
Edit.

What’s the Hue Sync Box?
So, would it be kosher to have everything ( Xbox 1 X, 4k player, Apple TV 4k ect. ) plugged into The Denon, and then earc out to the Q80t?
If all you have is 4K sources, then you should be fine
I thought all components had to be eARC for eARC to work? It didn't look like your receiver had eARC, but it showed 48 kHz? Or can any receiver be used to pass through 48 kHz? Also, what about sound bars, do I need to have an eARC soundbar for it to fix lip sync?
This specific AVR has HDMI 2.0B ports which support eARC, ALLM, and VRR. It wasn’t something that was advertised a whole lot so when they built them, no eARC label on the back. For fixing lip sync issues, there should be a setting on the TV itself.
I noticed this too,
Was wondering about this as I’m about to purchase a Q80T but my Onkyo TX-RZ3100 doesn’t say anything about eARC and was hoping to get a little while longer out of it yet.....
Thx so much.. I was worried for a while with Samsung... I own 2016 Samsung SUHD TV + Denon X3600H and its not able to do pure HDMI passtrough :( ... my friends Samsung 2019 also having issue to do that... so it seems that 2020+ line of TV might be for me
I don’t have Denon speakers so I can't use this app to check the codec, How do I check on Q90R Soundbar with Q950R TV if I'm getting Truehd or normal?

Wow Robert! What a TV!
Hello Cal! That depends on what AVR do you have?
It's a Marantz SR5014.
IF YOUR SAMSUNG TV DOESNT HAVE A DTS X LICENCE IT WILL NOT!!! NOT PASSTROUGH OTHER DTS FORMATS! I have a 2021 Samsung tv doesnt work
Can you do a video of what I need to work with a setup of a LG CX/ps5/sound bar that can take advantage of 3D audio by PlayStation? I have the tv waiting on ps5 release but I don’t know how to set up the best audio. Do I need 2.1 pass through? Or just eArc?
I don't know what format PS5 is going to be using to deliver their new 3D spatial audio. I think they still need to work on getting the audio out of the PS5.
Hi there, great videos always, when I press the home button on my q800t and go to the receiver it doesn't say HDMI, it just says hdmi3 and underneath unknown, I have an Arcam 390, any ideas on what to do? I don't get arc at all, thank you in advance
