To see is to believe. There is an old saying in Chinese, "to travel 10,000 km is better than to read 10,000 books." I guess it is always good to experience, learn, admire and feel different culture and custom in person. This would broaden a person's mind and enjoy the beauty in life.
I haven't been living abroad anywhere near as long as you but most definitely can relate to the recycling! It was a shock to actually see how less "regular" trash I went through when I separated everything from plastics, glass, paper, etc. Reusable bags and hand towels are so convenient to have with you too! Hope crashing your camera's image stabilization software from across the room is truly impressive. I'll echo @Ambie's comment about enjoying hearing your thoughts on things directly. Comparing with Japan and even Canada will help many understand Taiwan's unique aspects armed with those perspectives as well. Watching you travel, solo or with friends, is always nice because we see these places too, but listening to you describe your experiences first-hand lets us better understand the challenges you face, and the benefits this lifestyle is bringing your way.

I mean I have never lived in Japan or Taiwan, but I am currently living in Danmark as a Greenlander. It’s not my first time in Danmark, but I feel like I am a completely different person in Danmark compared to Greenland. I could explain it for several days probably because the changes are just so intense. I miss some things here that I had in Greenland, especially certain people and food, and in Greenland I miss certain things I had in Danmark, like easy access to many different things and just the city life. Here however, I really miss the peaceful atmosphere of my home. And obviously the weather. I feel like I’m dying in the Danish summer haha
Oh, we have to sort trash here for sure, blue bags for recycling, one for paper, one for plastic. For garbage that doesn’t get recycled go in a clear bag but one dark one is allowed every second week for privacy. Then we have big green bins for compostable stuff and some light paper and cardboard to help soak up wetness. They attract bears too😳 in every season but winter because we live outside the city. Rarely do we get plastic bags in stores, maybe for something wet like a meat with blood, we use reusable bags or reusable green boxes, some stores have paper bags but they suck because they aren’t heavy enough and rip easily. Most take out packaging is cardboard and paper now , once in awhile styrofoam. I don’t have a car anymore, I rent one if I need it or take a bus or taxi. It’s cheaper than buying a car, paying for repairs, upkeep and insurance and gas is so expensive now. Kitty sounded upset, after the birds again? My cats are getting a new bigger cat tree in a couple of days, it stays by the French doors where they can watch the birds and squirrels at the feeder. They’ve worn out their old one, Jynx runs down the hallway as fast as he can, lifts off and lands on the very top, sometimes knocking the whole thing over and he’s a heavy muscled boy too. Fortunately he uses the rope wrapped posts to sharpen his claws and the old one is fraying so to save my furniture I’m getting the new, stronger, taller one with more things to entertain them. Take care, stay safe and well. 🙋🏼

I live somewhere between Taipei and Hsinchu and the public transportation system in Hsinchu isn't too bad, you can get on a train going pretty much anywhere on the island either from the TRA or the HSR station in Zbubei
I haven't traveled abroad myself, I'm from the USA. But just from what you're saying about sorting the trash in Japan and Taiwan, I feel like America has soo far to go. So many places I've lived, there's been no method for sorting or if there is, it's very difficult any you have to go out of your way to take it to be sorted yourselves. Like the garbage company where I live only does standard recycling, so they don't take glass. So I had to find a place I could take glass bottles to be recycled (I ended up taking them to target). Its just kinda crazy to me, and it seems like the sorting/eco impact is more important in Japan and Taiwan. It's something crucial the USA seems to be lacking.
I think I read somewhere Canada before ranked number one for producing the most garbage in the world and the US was 3rd. But I have also heard about Japanese plastic problems. Everyone still has a long way too go 🥲
Then there's trash in the U.S. with a huge dumpster behind my building and you literally just toss almost whatever into it. My city recently brought a green trash can over but no one uses it. I recycle what I can and cut any loops so animals don't get stuck if the item somehow ends up somewhere out there in the environment. We get charged for bags where I live too so I always have a reusable bag with me. I have one that folds really small and is thin and light yet has been sturdy.
When I moved to Taiwan I was FREAKED out when i saw my roommate freeze his garbage in the freezer. for me, garbage is garbage, no matter what kind of garbage it is. I kinda understand why he did that eventually, but no, I will never freeze mine.
I don't freeze food waste in fridge but I will put in in sealed bags then spray bugs spray on top and leave it on my balcony till I take out on my trash days.

I’m surprised to hear the level of sorting garbage is higher in Taiwan than Japan. I thought it’s the other way around. Maybe it depends on where you live in the country.
It definitely depends on where you live in Japan. More rural prefectures have stricter rules. For example, some areas in tokyo, burnable and plastics go into the same garbage.
Japan's recycling system is intense but it's not necessarily effective. I read that Japan has less than a 30% recycling rate whereas Taiwan has over 50% :) South Korea also has a higher recycling rate than Japan too despite there being literal trash bags tied to lamp posts in certain areas so I have no idea why Japan's recycling rate is so much lower 🤔😅
Well, for Taiwanese ppl, you feel something is wrong if you just throw a bottle into a general garbage bin. You must find a recycling bin which is usually next to the general bin
People always thought, that between Japanese and Taiwanese, are second to between Chinese and Taiwanese easist to adept to each other because Japan had ruled Taiwan for 50 years and left 76 years ago, but I recently found Japanese probably ranked the top one by leading Chinese, anyhow it's my personal feeling and don't take it too serious.Just enjoy everything while living in Taiwan after your 3 years experience in Japan, there are still some differences in these two asian nations.

Welcome to Taiwan! I was into Japan before, and now still like it as a place to tour. And it is clean and very harmonious? Can't really find the word to describe Japan. Just curious, since I was born and raised in Taiwan, I really can't sense why foreigners think Taiwan is a safe place.
Maybe just because I'm way too used to it, but others countries are really that unsafe????
Taiwan has one of the lowest crime rates in the world, lady…
@@rodriguezchen I knew that, but it's really mean average people walking on the street is dangerous in other countries? If not, why do you guys feel Taiwan is safer?
Likes in US, they have guns, but is it really that easy to bump into a gunfight??
Last thing...I'm a male sir.
Yes one of the lowest!
I think because for example my hometown in Canada has quite a high crime rate, it feels good to walk at night in Taiwan and Japan and feel relatively safe

The reason why I am so curious is that I have a dream to travel around the world, want to learn more before that. Thank you so much for your reply. :D
在日本,一般人更在意別人的眼光。因此,一個人去餐廳吃飯,一個人去看電影,一個人去遊樂園等等,通常會被認為是非常丟臉的事,甚至一個人去KTV也算。
Hey Jenn....Try not to use Google translate too much, because they really don't do a great job translating Mandarin to English.
Sadly I know 😅💦 but sometimes I really have to and at that time, I keep the sentences very short (then hope for the best)
u have married , right?
Yup, I’m married!!
也許妳該考慮認真學中文了Maybe you should consider studying Chinese seriously
I had Chinese lessons for a bit but they finished now 🥲
This attitude is very common about native english speaker. Once they live in Québec ( the french part) but still think it granted to be served in english. ( english privilege attitude )
Except when I order here in Taiwan I try my best to speak Chinese. I always spoke Japanese when I lived in Japan for almost 8 years. Don’t be so quick to judge 👋🏻
Cat!

Maybe you can try to speak Japanese 👍🏻
