So I tried to switch back to standard tuning and I was doing it slowly but I still broke the guitar string...do you have any tips for how to safely re tune the guitar? I was having so much fun learning this song, but now I’m scared to try again and break the string again.
It’s just always going to be a slight risk unfortunately. The older your strings are the more likely they are to snap. So it’ll be ok with a new string

Fine tutorial But looking back at tuning down to E and back to G repetedly, I won't be so cautious : I continuousely switch between standard and DADGAD tuning and don't snap many strings. When you string you guitar, be sure you wind at least half a dozen turn around the machine-head capstan to spread the tension along the wound length and not only on the creased spot through the capstan hole

on the first shape of the standard tuning version, instead of doing that shape, you can do first finger, fifth string, fifth fret; second finger, seventh fret, fourth string, and the finger picking like the rest
I use a Spider Capo on the 4th fret leaving the g string “open” and a standard capo on the 1st fret 😉 (was tired of replacing my g string all the time)

does anyone else's tuned down string sound way to low? i cant seem to get it to sound right
I had the same problem, then I used the drop B tuning (BFBEGC) as reference tuning to get the G to E. It seemed to work.

Why is there a possibility of it snapping?
Just because if you stretch the string back and forth it will eventually snap over time
Can someone tell me how to detune the guitar to the E. How many steps do I need to go down or up to get that tuning?
it's 3 semitones down. So G > F# > F > E
