Frequently Asked Questions: 1. What clay do you use? I use a paper clay. I either buy it or make my own depending on what I want to create 2. What's the difference between the bought paper clay ( amzn.to/2r5FEHY ) and the homemade paper clay (A) ruclips.net/video/LkYGfBz_MTU/видео.html (B) ruclips.net/video/_Ef-U6aZEoI/видео.html )? The homemade one is not that soft and is only good for textured surfaces like stones and tree bark. It is very cheap to make so it might worth to sand it and work it a little more than buying a paper clay. However, you can't keep it more than 5 to 7 days in the fridge. It has the best consistency when you just made it and it's fresh, so I would recommend you use it in the same day or the next and don't make more than you need 3. Can I use air dry clay? What's the difference between air dry clay and paper clay? Often times shops will sell both paper clay and ceramic clay with the same label "air dry clay". It's true, both are air hardening but there are quite a few differences: air dry clay(ceramic clay) is actually mud, natural clay, while paper clay is made with cellulose and other ingredients. Paper clay is stronger than air dry clay(ceramic clay). Air dry clay (ceramic clay) shrinks and the paper clay does not shrink. This is why paper clay is the better choice for my kind of projects. My projects usually require you to cover a jar or a plastic bottle. If the air dry clay shrinks and the bottle or jar remain the same size... you guessed it... your air dry clay will crack all around. It might be a lot cheaper but it's not what you need for these projects. 4. My clay cracks, how do you cover the cracks? You don't, you change your air dry clay to a paper clay! See why at the previous question 5. How to waterproof my paper clay creations? I recommend using a yacht varnish. Apply a few coats and make sure you cover it all around so no water touches your clay 6. What brand of paper clay do you use? I use "Das modelling material" - amzn.to/2r5FEHY 7. Where can I see the list of materials? As a general rule of my channel... READ MY VIDEO DESCRIPTIONS! I write it for you guys, is no secret what I use. For every video I write a description of what I do and what I use. 8. Do you sell your creations? No, not yet, my daughter loves them too much. 9. What colors do you use? I mostly use watercolors and acrylic paint.
I love the way you recycle glass jars to make these darling little fairy houses. I think if you used FIMO or SCULPEY it would work. I love the detail that you put on your fairy houses! So darned cute! Thanks for sharing this! ~Janet in Canada
+mastersadvocate Thank you! It would definitely work with Fimo and Sculpey but would also be more expensive when trying to cover bigger jars ;) (Coming soon)
I've just made my first one :) No where near as good as yours but I'm thrilled with it! Can't wait to paint it and use it in an indoor fairy garden. It's going to become a new passion! Was super relaxing and calming too, thank you for such fabulous vids!
I've just done this for the first time, although been wanting to try it for a while. It was great fun to do and develop as I went along, and I'm hoping I can store it with sweets and give it to my sister for her birthday ;)
These are all so amazing! I want to thank you for all the videos I have no talent but want to try to do this. I do have DAS so i can start off. Thank you again.
+Carla Briggs Thank you! Give it a try! Das and some jars is all you need. You can practice and make a great job, in the end, "talent" is just a word! Have fun!
You could put one of those super-bright LED discs (or even just the fake candles) inside to make it appear like lights are shining through the windows. You could also frost the windows by stippling a bit of white acrylic inside the glass (this is great for dispersing the light)!
Hi again! I started making some of these little houses last weekend - I have used spice jars for two of the miniature houses and a jam jar for the other one - so three houses in the pipeline at the moment! I bought some air dry clay that Hobbycraft here in the UK are selling (it's made specifically for their shops - calleld "British air drying clay"). I found that it cracked a lot during drying and I had to keep repairing with watered down clay and a paintbrush (to paint into the cracks to 'glue' them back together again). At one stage the entire side of the house fell off the jar! I think I've fixed the problems now - I'm drying my houses under plastic, slowly. I will get Das clay next time and see if it's better to use. I can make my own polymer clay but I don't want to do a polymer clay house until I've perfected the technique. It's a really great project. My daughter suggested making a mini-Pub with a slate tiled roof, so that's my next project (complete with hanging sign). I wanted to ask you if you would be able to make a church out of jars? You are so talented, I think a stone church would look fantastic in clay. Anyway, thank you very much for your tutorials and being so giving with your knowledge and skills - your videos are brilliant and this is such a fun project. Can't wait for the summer holidays to show my grandchildren how to make something like this! Thanks again. Sorry for the long message :)
+Janice Scott Oh, I'm sorry that your clay cracked. It's probably a natural clay and it shrinks when the water evaporates(it's clay, soil, great when making ceramic, but when you cover something, it will always crack). It will always crack no matter what you do. Das is a special clay that uses paper cellulose and a glue, it smells funny but It never shrinks. If you can't find it there I think Kohinoor had a similar clay maybe you find that one.
+Creative Mom The church idea sounds good, I would try it as a personal project, we have some great churches in our country. Thank you for the long comment, I like connecting with my RUclips friends :)
Thanks for your reply - yes it's a natural clay - very nice to work with but not ideal for this project. I can get Das clay here, I'll have a go with that next time!
+Happy Little Charms Thank you. Yes, it works with polymer clay as well. But if you make bigger ones, it's alot more expensive to make them with polymer clay.
+Happy Little Charms You can share it on the instructable comment section and press the button "I made it!" You have a link to my instructable in the description of the video
Ms. Xyz Paul glue gun is a one time buy. The glue sticks can be bought in bulk for fairly cheap, and each creation might use one glue stick, if that. Aluminum foil can be purchased at the dollar store and last for months. Paints, depending on the type you buy, really aren’t that expensive, either. At most, metallic paints from your typical craft store might be anywhere from $3 - $5 for the smaller size and (again) last for quite a few projects. So, in short, yes, these projects are very inexpensive. Anything in this world costs some amount of money, but for the amount you spend on the supplies for these houses and how many you can crank out with everything, it’s very, very cheap. Of course, I suppose even $15 - $25 is expensive to someone.

+Nathaly Of course you can use them. We put candies because they are small, but if you have bigger ones you can put cookies or sugar or sweet treats or spices and you can write on the door or on top of the door what's inside ;) Thank you and have fun!

+Creative Mom love em!!!
These r fantastic & inexpensive. I'm going to decorate my mom's garden fir when she can come back home, so I want to make it special.
Do u really think it's inexpensive? Even the basic things r glue gun , clay , aluminium foil, and ofcourse mettallic colours ,
At last the main thing is structure of the fairy house, if it's not ok then ur so called INEXPENSIVE things would get waste out
Ms. Xyz Paul glue gun is a one time buy. The glue sticks can be bought in bulk for fairly cheap, and each creation might use one glue stick, if that. Todo esta muy bonito
Great Video.
what clay did you use??does it need baking???
can I try with polymer clay??
+namisha sinha Hi, thank you. I used "Das modelling material" it doesn't need baking, is cheap and strong in the end. For small jars you can use polymer, but for bigger jars, like the one in my last video it would be too expensive I think. Have fun!
Hi, Can I put things on this? or is only for decoration? I think is beautiful and I wanna make some for my kitchen... maybe cookies, sprinkles, sugar etc..
Btw.... amazing work!!!
+Nathaly Of course you can use them. We put candies because they are small, but if you have bigger ones you can put cookies or sugar or sweet treats or spices and you can write on the door or on top of the door what's inside ;) Thank you and have fun!
WOW this looks amazing youre soooo creative :000 im gonna try it i really hope itll turn out well :D thqnk you for the amazing tutorial ^-^ subscribing right now CD
+osomatsu san Thank you, I'm sure you will make a great job! Have fun!
I made a toad house about a month and a half ago out of an empty honey jar that looked similar to the one you made here. I used air dry clay then didn't realize that you couldn't put it outside because it would disintegrate. I haven't finished painting it yet because I was bummed that I couldn't put it near my waterfall outside. Any suggestions on how air dry clay can be used in outdoor decor? Is there a sealant you can recommend? Very cute and I love your painting! Great job! I've subscribed!
+Robin Donnelly Thank you! I'm planning to make some models for outside and I want to seal them with two layers of yacht varnish. Just make sure you go all around and there is not even the smallest space where water can reach the clay. The varnish will change the color a bit. Have fun and let me know how it goes
I will! Thanks so much for answering. I'll Google yacht varnish to see where to get it.
there are such things as an indoor fairy garden
I want it outside, thanks.
I.d like to use these outside, is this waterproof or should I use something else? I really loved your video!
+surfergirl326 No, it's not, unless you make them waterproof with a few coats of yacht varnish or something like that.
+Creative Mom Ok thanks for letting me know.
Hi love your work, so do you paint while the clay is still wet thx
+Funny Aussies Evie Games! No, no, no! Paint only when it's dry!
+Creative Mom thank you🤗
Amazing very very beautiful mem !!!!!!
How do you water proof these things? I want to make some for our little fairy garden out on the porch!
+ZanyProductionz You can seal them with a couple of layers of yacht varnish. Make sure you cover them all around! Have fun! :)
Thanks! yacht varnish. I have to remember that.
simplemente Dios te bendiga
Gracias :)
Could i use some sort of clear varnish over the top so that i could use them in the garden? your work is amazing, thank you for sharing
+Ashlea Smith Thank you. Yes, if you want to use them outside you should definitely coat them well with a few layers of varnish so the clay doesn't touch the water. Have fun :)
Oh fantastic, thank you for your quick reply. I am making surf gardens with the kids during the summer holidays, looks like fun!! you are a very talented lady.
Wgat mold clay do you use?! X awesome stuff
+livelonglovemuch I used DAS modelling material but the secret is to water it a little and work it in your hand to make it smoother. The original consistency is not good. And also, when you try to attach the new wet parts to a dry part you have to water the dry part so you reactivate the glue inside ;) trust me it's the best clay there is for this price but only if you know how to work with it. Thank you
hi these are really amazing. i just wanna know what kind of clay are you using. thanks
+butter cup Thank you! It's called "Das modelling material" google it, is very easy to find in online shops.
+Creative Mom wow thanks! I'm just starting out in making little houses out of paper clay. Your videos are really helpful
+butter cup Paper clay might work just fine, das is also cellulose based. As long as it doesn't shrink it won't crack on your jar. Natural air dry clays do that, never try those on jars, you'll work in vain, it will crack when drying. Have fun with your little houses!
are these able to go in my fairy garden outside? will the clay soffen if it rains?
You should coat them first with a few layers of matte yacht varnish. Yes, the water will damage the clay and the paint
so creative do you sell your art? tfs doll ♡
+Terry Coleman No, not yet. Do you think I should? How much would you pay for one of these? Thanks
Wow they are so adorable I would I see all what it takes to make I luv fairy gardens name a price peace / love
