  • Hi everyone, here I am sharing easy rustic mushroom fairy house jar lantern clay craft idea & tutorial works with air dry clay/ paper clay (any type, any brand). In this project, I used homemade clay.
    This time, I've painted the mushroom roof with a little bit of rustic color at the edges. I make little mushrooms on top of the big mushroom where you can hang the house or use it as jewelry hanger.

    My experience- air dry clay shrinks too much when placed "over" hard surfaces. The cracks can be immense when placed over jars and the like.
    Anyone else know of an air dry brand that doesn't shrink? Im all ears.

      Thanks for your comment. As we know, air dry clay means the clay will dry without baking. Based on my experience, in general there are 3 types of air dry clay: type 1: air dry hardening modelling clay which comes in limited color: white/grey/terracotta - good for sculpting, this type will shrink and depending on how you use it, it may crack. Type 2: air dry soft clay - good for flowers or figurines. Type 3: air dry paper clay - contains paper. This is good for sculpting, wrapping jars/ cardboard. It less shrink. You can buy this type or make your own clay. Do not use corn flour base homemade clay but use homemade clay with flour base + additional paper fibres like those from tissue paper to make the clay strong. Have you seen my clay recipe video? Pls read my update at video description. Here is the link to video: ruclips.net/video/aNIphsJcnoA/видео.html

      @@clayitnow thank you SO MUCH! I just had to "paper mache' with Napkins over my "CLAY COVERED" jar. Not a disaster for my outdoor garden projects, but frustrating because i want to try my hand at more "classy" items (Can't think of another descriptive word).
      I really, really enjoy your channel! I am a "multi-media" artist and clay creations is my newest. I always used clay to fix broke garden art or fill a small area when refinishing wood furniture but just decided to use clay for its "intended" purpose.
      Im excited to use my Christmas gift: Amazon Money! And am researching for all the tried and true "must have" clay tools!
      Is there anything you absolutely "must have"?
      Please share!

    It seems that your homemade clay is easier to work with than store bought. As you put your clay onto things it makes me think of bread dough, but once it is dry it is fantastic. I plan to try some of your projects once I have all of the supplies I need.

    • @clayitnow

      Yes, it's like bread dough. If you want to make fairy house jar, don't forget to add tissue paper like I did on egg stand video, link: ruclips.net/video/ghS6KXXibvQ/видео.html

    This little Fairy house is adorable. You're a natural born and innovative artist! I often make use of cocktail sticks to make the dots on a mushroom, and for other uses (such as gluing in a tiny area of a Fairy house, or making the center for tiny flowers etc) but I was delighted by your idea of using a straw to make leaves. When they need to be small, a mould is not always the right medium; so I shall try out the straw. Many thanks for the video! :)

    I used straw to make windows, and imaginary leave patterns on the jar in this video. I paint few layers of acrylic paint colours to have rustic mushroom look ar the edges😊. Oh yah.. you can hang the mushroom too😊 Do you like the idea? 😁 Link to video ruclips.net/video/6B9jGJS4DlQ/видео.html

    Do you add white paint to your clay? It is so white as you are making this or are you showing it painted white?

    • @clayitnow
      @clayitnow  4 года назад +1

      The white one usually is after painting with white paints or white universal primer.

    I must thank you for sharing your knowledge to prepare air dry clay which is so easy on the pocket, it is a life saver. In India(Mumbai) it is very expensive to buy clay lots of love for sharing your knowledge.
    I have a question, what do you suggest I must use to waterproof my craft or Atleast stop my craft from growing fungus. It is very humid here through out the year.
    Keep the smile going on your face.

    Very cute! Class!
    Do you work with homemade clay according to the recipe you talked about?
    I will definitely try it! In Russian, a similar mass for modeling is called cold porcelain. No flour is added to it. Not only figures are made from it, but also flowers, very similar to real ones, with flexible petals.
    I hope that Google translates this clearly))

    • @clayitnow
      @clayitnow  5 лет назад

      Thanks. I used to work with clay porcelain but it shrinks a lot. Later on I've found that flour base is more stable & flexible. I still use it sometimes when I make small items but not for wrapping the jar😊. Yes I used my best homemade clay with additional few sheets of tissue paper.
