    I had this thought while playing just now. "I'm not using the weapon switching right. Lemme search on this" and ended up on reddit, which led me here. Thank you.
    Edit: Also made me realize the training feature is a replacement for turn based grinding.🤟 This game reminds me of the first fable in a way. Switching between and combining the three skills in that game was vital to any sort of successful OP build.

    Yup, I'm just gonna add this to my Weapon Guide playlist because there's no way I'm matching that level of dedication and making my own videos on this. Now I can science out how to make some flashy combos, particularly with the Type B/C Royal Arms. That was some sick looking stuff :P

      Speaking of flashy combos, ever since I found out that some combo finishers don't cause the combo of type B/C weapons to reset, I've been thinking... Would it be possible to stack 4 combo finishers on top of each other if you manipulate the combos just right? It looks possible on paper, something to try out for sure :D

      I'll have to give it a try, but Persona 5 has all of my attention right now ^_^;; I moved my PS4 away from my recording setup so I could play on my larger living room TV, but I'm almost done (I think) so should be able to give it a try soon.

    Damn. It sucks that I can't weapon swap combo between Type A weapons. Those are the weapons I use the most. And I don't use Royal Arms much because of how they drain HP. But this is making realize how much weapon swap combo potential I'm missing out on by not using them... Gonna try it more now and see what I can come up with. I probably wont be making a video about Gladio though. He has a moveset, but this time most of it is actually explained in the DLC. And the best way to play is to parry everything anyway. Also, making a video for a two hour DLC is kinda redundant.
      I might eventually if they make him playable outside the DLC, but I very much doubt that.

    Great guide! Must have taken forever to make.
    Quick question: How does the Auto Changer accessory work? The game once again lacks the ability to make clear descriptions, as it says "Automatically changes to the next clockwise combo after each attack or combo." What I'm curious about is why it says both 'attack' and 'combo' - if it switches after each attack, why does the description mention combos?

    • @asetoniffxv22
      @asetoniffxv22  7 лет назад +1

      shane blue sky Yes, that does work as long as you don't do two consecutive basic combo attacks with the sword (because that causes a combo reset).
      The releasing circle trick to skip ahead in the combo works with every type-B royal arm.

    Actually this is kind of wrong. The way Weapon swapping works is while you're in a basic combo for a broadsword, swap to a another weapon as soon as it disappears out of noct's hand this is called Vanquish from Episode Duscae!

      MrTerryPup I covered that in part 2.
      Tl;dw It works like normsl weapon swapping. It just swaps through your weapon wheel automatically in a clockwise order. Yea, it's useless.

  • @bigcsbigbrother3685
    @bigcsbigbrother3685 5 лет назад

    Hey what do you mean when you say 'doing a finisher with a type B royal arm does the same thing as a weapon swap?' 13:50

    • @asetoniffxv22
      @asetoniffxv22  5 лет назад

      "Finisher" is a type of attack that you can activate on most normal weapons by releasing the attack button for split second and then pushing it again (they're sometimes also called "charge attacks"). Doing this same input with type B weapons will cause them to skip ahead in their combo the same way a weapon swap would, even if those weapons don't have a Finisher attack in their moveset.

    And they say the combat system is shallow.

    • @pkshd
      @pkshd 6 лет назад +1

      Its not shallow, its superfluous. Sadly there's no need to actually understand any of this to beat the game, because the low effort strategies still have high payoff, and healing items rain from above like some kind of jetpack wearing egyptian lady is launching them from her shoulders at the party constantly in case you do get hurt too bad.

    • @TheSuperSaturos
      @TheSuperSaturos 6 лет назад +1

      Jetstream Artorias Aren't pretty much all games like that? Look at Devil May Cry, for example, there's no need to do those crazy combos, you can beat the whole game by simply dodging attacks and mashing the attack button or the shooting button, but you still do combos. Why? Because it's fun and it gives you more orbs. Look at Kingdom Hearts. Do you need those flashy attacks? No, but it's fun. Most turn based RPG's also don't require high level of strategy, just keep your gauges full and attack the enemy with their weaknesses or your strongest attacks, and if you still can't defeat the bosses, do some level grinding and try again. With shooters you just need to have a good aim, know how to cover properly and, in case you're playing online, teamwork. With fighting games, you just need to know a couple of basic combos and the story mode will be a piece of cake.
      See? Most games don't require complex strategies or great skill to be beaten. You only need to be familiar with the genre and follow its rules.

    • @pkshd
      @pkshd 6 лет назад

      Well, yes. Even the most challenging game is still a game, and its unreasonable to expect most players to dedicate themselves to perfect play just to see the next main quest or mission.
      The difference between FFXV and the examples you've given is that there's actual incentive to explore the combat for better results. Using Devil May Cry as an example, because that's the game that I've played the most of in that list, you're encouraged to explore your combat options by the enemy design. In DMC1's opening mission, the area is filled with marionettes that are basically glorified training dummies, and all weapons work on them, so you can simply mash attack with Force Edge, or mash shoot with Ebony and Ivory whilst dodging away. Then you meet Phantom, the game's first boss in Misison 3, who doesn't get stunned as easily, and is covered in hard armour, forcing you to actually slow down with your mashing and actually time your attacks, and properly demonstrates that enemies and bosses have behaviour preferences instead of hard and fast attack patterns, and will react somewhat to what you do. Even if it is something as simple as stinger to the face forces Phantom to swallow his own fireballs while he's charging, DMC 1 encourages the player to slow down and think through their approach. I will agree that the other DMC games don't really have enemy designs which push you to experiment to this degree, but the reward for mastering DMC3's and 4's combat systems is the difference between killing a boss in two stuns or ten, or 20 hit juggling an enemy for their entire lifebar off one hard stun vs hitting them five times and letting them go.
      Exploring FFXV's combat system doesn't get you anything like that, aside from doing moves out of their usual sequence, and a huge surplus of healing items. The difference in performance between warp striking with Ragnarok and occasionally Point Warping to restore MP so you can continue vs using weapon switch combos and getting up close is negligible, and in many cases, Ragnarok Warp Strike spamming is actually favoured.

    • @TheSuperSaturos
      @TheSuperSaturos 6 лет назад

      Jetstream Artorias Well, FFXV's mechanics are different from DMC, therefore, the rewards for better performance in battles are also different. Even if it's action oriented like DMC, FFXV's rewards are your typical RPG rewards: more EXP, more AP, more damage, different items, etc... Comparing two different games in that that specific aspect is unfair. Compare two classics of the same genre, Mario and Sonic. What's the reward for finding Star Coins in Mario? Getting higher scores. What's the reward for finding the Chaos Emeralds in Sonic? Unlocking Super Sonic. Of course the Sonic one feels more rewarding and worth your time, but the idea behind both games is very different. Mario is a simple, more childish platformer, so the idea is "keep it simple". Sonic is also a platformer, but it's focused on cool designs and fast paced gameplay, the idea is "the cooler and faster, the better".
      In FFXV, if you do things a certain way, you'll get rewarded. If you manage to get A+ in Time, Offense and Finesse, you'll get more EXP. If you kill enemies with a warp-strike, you get AP. If you do more than 3x damage with a warp-strike or break their horns/stingers/skin/armor at close range, you'll debuff the enemy. If you deal a large amount of damage, you'll stagger the enemy. If you attack enemies from behind, you'll deal more damage and even more if you manage to pull out a link-strike. The cool combos in FFXV increase your finesse, which means more EXP. See? The rewards are there.

    • @pkshd
      @pkshd 6 лет назад

      The difference is in FFXV if you don't bother with learning with even these basic aspects of additional post combat rewards, let alone weapon switching combos, you can still win the majority of fights with at least A rankings in the Time and Offence categories, the party will continue to level up and the quest will continue. The way that the game is now, not even the allure of bonus XP is enough to get players to experiment more, especially since when levelling up actually matters, the majority of your XP comes from finishing quests, and a significant chunk of AP comes from non-combat activities like long drives in the car, fishing, riding your chocobo, making camp etc. Of course FFXV has incentives for using slightly more advanced tactics, but the rewards for that aren't enough for most players to actually bother experimenting. If a fight can't be won by hold square/hold circle as needed, most of the time the lowest effort solution is to just go away and do a few more hunts and fetch quests, level up, eat a good meal, and brute force the fight later with bigger stats and a larger stock of near limitless potions.
      Going back to DMC, because we seem to both be familiar with that example, mashing attack against anything that isn't a Marionette, basic Scarecrow or Hell Pride nets you the Game Over screen. Your punishment for failing to get good is that you have to try again under similar conditions until you are good enough. Grinding for more blue orbs without actually getting more skilled simply means you die slower, and Vital Stars, being expensive consumables that are found rarely, cannot prop you up forever.
