It is great to see someone shining a light on the deep seated and widely prevalent deprivation in Torquay/Torbay. Your last video even made the local online rag. Over and over again our council prioritises pensioner tourists and the wealthy over its residents. Keep up the good work chap.

I'm a local paignton, what killed torbay is the loss of the nortel factory that employed majority of people in torbay especially paignton. And the loss of the holiday camps we had about 4 pontins in paignton and I think we had about 2 in torquay. It's cheaper to go abroad, I'm guessing tbe inglewood suffered during covid probably family run younger ones aren't interested in it and the parents are clinging on to their beloved hotel it would cost a few quid to bring that back to its former days. They would have lost the coach parties side of the buisness that is for sure. Shame tbh inglewood was a nice hotel

Such a shame, we used to go to Torquay and Paignton all the time as kids for our summer holidays, living in the North of England it seemed so idyllic at the time, with all the palm trees. So sad to see the social deprivation that wasn’t apparent when we visited in the 1980s.

Ashley Court Hotel I stayed at a few weeks ago, with breakfast included which was really good for free the breakfast and decent hotel, not the Ritz but good for the money and nice people. Hey Joe, we have our share of run down motels and hotels in the states. Some of them you have to keep one eye open when you sleep. Some places are infested with bed bugs.
To be honest Joe, I would pay $35.00 per night USD. As a mentioned by the previous commenter. The council needs to pay attention to what's going on in it's own township and stop
the nonsense. Excellent video Joe ! You are the voice of the people who don't have one there. It's the one that talks the loudest and turns the squeaky wheel that gets the prize. Reviews can be hit or miss. All the best. 👍👍 Mate ! Jim and Harriet

Dear Joe, great video and expose' but peak season the price is reasonable and you must take the view that you are only there for a night or two and move on. One might say you only get what you pay for. The things to look out for are bed bugs and it can take ages to get rid of them or worse still, a slapper sleeping in the bed previously and you might contract scabies and itch for weeks in the lower regions. How was the breakfast as you never mentioned whether that was included ?? You probably had to ring for a reservation for security reasons. Years ago one just walked into a friendly reception area to be met and greeted, Many of us appreciate the work you do and your honest comments. You are one of the few guys on RUclips with the most

Forty two pounds? Amazing! My husband and I stayed in a hotel in Rome, the Hotel Gigolo and it had exposed wires hanging out of the wall so at least you didn't have that! When I was a child (I'm now 74 we used to go to a Torquay hotel every Christmas, the Victoria Hotel. It was very posh. You had to dress for dinner, there was dancing in the ball room. All sorts of activities. I loved it. A bygone age. I love you videos.

Good grief; I stayed here, a block-booking, for about 3-4 weeks as part of a 24-strong New Stores Team of a now defunct Chain Store, back in about 1980. Others stayed at the closed one opposite. (Sherwood? Can't remember).
At the time it was well -run and immaculate. The owners were friendly, charming and most accommodating. To show our appreciation, we had a whip-round at the end of our tenure, which bought the daughter of the establishment all her driving lessons.
Rooms, B&B were 37 per night I recall.

I was a chef in the area for a great many years.
A large majority of the coaching hoteliers were very much stuck in the 60's and 70's and forgot to move with the times. They wanted to remember the glory days without spending the money to re-furbish.
Because of that, tourists found better places to stay and the slow fall of the coaching hotels happened. There were many other issues that happened but that was the start of everything.
There's now a Travelodge on the way into the main Torquay centre and a Premier Inn (that is currenly cheaper than the inglewood in peak season) 100 yards away from where you filmed this.

I used to gig here on Saturdays in 2013 and 2014.
Back then it was a busy, bustling, and thriving coaching hotel.
It was always busy, it was well run by Sue, and whilst the place was a little dated back then, the atmosphere and happiness of guests more than made up for that.
That was until it was purchased off Mark, by the owners of the Sherwood Hotel who immediately stripped it back, got rid of the coaches, and turned into a shell of what it had been 6 months prior.
The rumour was, the hotel was bought for the sake of Money Laundering - But nothing was ever confirmed.
This hotel was once a lovely little basic hotel.
    It's a shame to see it's demise.

To be fair on the hotel owners, they haven’t long moved in to the hotel. Given time, I’m sure things will improve. Even at the time of my visit the garden had already been tidied up with the grass cut.

The imperial hotel, right near the coast, used to be a novelty 5 star hotel! Now all its dated and gone down to 4 stars, which could go back up to 5 if it had a little polish up. I see your reference to Fawlty Towers, yet I think even Sybil and Basil would have cleaned up some of the stuff left behind at odd locations 😂

If you'd ventured 50 miles NW you'd have had a lovely welcome at the stunning 'Sutherland Hotel', Newquay. I'll bet you you've not seen anything on that scale of depravity. And it still has a licence to ensure men, well, 'enjoy' themselves. The challenge is yours!

standards have dropped in everyting from customer service, basic standards of business running, maintaining of people's houses and gardens, council maintenance of public areas and people's driving standards. All in line with the mass innoculations that happened over the last few years. IQ levels of people are lower and it shows.

    This is absurd.
    Torquay has excellent hotels.
The Grand, the Osborne, The Imperial, the Headland, the Lincombe, the Cary Arms.
Torquay is full of charm, history and good restaurants.
Just like London or Bristol it has good bits and bad bits.

Torquay itself is run down. I doubt very many Hotels can survive, this one needs gutting and refurbishment. But that would cost more than the hotel could make. For 42 pounds I would prefer to sleep in the car. I am living in SE Asia and in most countries you woukd get better than that for less.

Check in 4pm - Checkout 10am - Utter disgrace. The UK budget hotel industry is a f*cking shambles. Bed and Breakfast places used to be a better option, but the prices for all have gone crazy. I will be in Bangkok in a couple of weeks, 20 quid a night will get me a decent place. I will never get over paying 110 for one night in some God forsaken North Wales coastal town. Rip off Britain.
