My great aunt Julia was a dealer on Moore St. She always gave us a big bag of cherries when we went around there. As a kid , that was a great treat for us. Its not half the place it used to be sadly. When I go home to visit I'm always nostalgic when I see the changes. I have the memories thanks to you tube. Thanks for posting .

God be with the days my mother use to take me to Town on the bus to do her shopping, we get our weeks messages in Roches stores and on to more street, fruit & veg from the dealers, & meat from FX Buckley, its was the real Moore Street then the sound of the Athens of those hard working women a live show, I was so inspired by my experiences in the city I wrote a number of songs, close the city down which was one that made it on the CD Dublin don't fade away, I recall my mother taken me by the hand and walking me fast as we past the bus man's club just be side clearys were a bomb had gone off earlier that day the shopping still had to be done, as young as I was I could still feel the Tension in the Atmosphere, Then the corporation came and change moor Street and stole the Heart of the city, god be with the good old days,

I was friends with a wonderful trader from O'Moore st. Lyra was her name. I was working one day and she came into me, and said with a total serious face that she had aids. Well, my mind was totally flummoxed. She was in her 70s in the 90s which trust me when I say having a 70 year old woman telling me that she had aids leaves the mind just literally going wtf the I just hear?
Then came Lyra's impish smile, knowing she just pulled a epic prank, with the words,
Yes, I have aids. A bandaid, a hearing aid and a lucozade.

Thank you! I am not from your country. Does anyone know if this street and it’s market still survives? I’ve seen what happens when we destroy our own history in the name of “modernization” and “progress.” With that destruction is the equally unseen but just as real destruction of people’s souls.
There must be some way to save what’s meaningful and deeply valued by those who know it best alongside the inevitability of Progress.
I hope this city, this street, this market, these people can find it.

Yes the stalls on Moore st are still there selling produce, Probably only 10% of what used to be there when I was a child. There was about 5 butcher shops but I think only Bucleys butcher shop remains.

@@orosedobheathaabhaile yes Troy's butcher shop is still there but not in the original location opposite Buckleys. They moved further down past the ILAC near Parnell Street. I remember they used to have tripe and pig's trotters and big beef hearts in the window 😀

Sad state, maybe five Dublin stalls holder's left, it's mostly polish and African shops along the street. We've lost it, but it's worth rejuvenating Moore St. It is known the world over, it could be a flagship project for the city centre, it needs it badly.
