lol How else will raspberries get in a cake without being handpicked and placed? Is that supposed to be impressive? Cakes are easily accomplished by any decent home baker. Ham is skimpy on sandwiches and appears to be deli meat. French bread is "imported" from New Orleans. What bakery can't make good french bread, it is a basic. Wonder what else is not made on site. As for everyone in love with edible glitter, it has been everywhere for decades. Can get lots of it for under $4 at Walmart. I think you hit the nail on the head: This is a special occasion place, not an "I'm on vacation and need someplace to eat" place. I could see doing an afternoon tea here for Mother's Day with my mom.
Imagine waking up at 5:55 on the 60 day mark of your once in a lifetime vacation to make all your dream dining reservations, already a major ask for a vacation, only to find out the reservations opened early that day and the ones you wanted are already gone. This is why people are over it. I'll get what I get. Really done with the hoops.

The price to quality is getting a little wild. I get that there’s low elasticity of demand, but, it can’t be perfectly inelastic like they think it is.
NYC foodie friends saw the vid and said there is nothing novel or interesting about the food to justify the price. It’s a Midwest upscale Cracker Barrel with a pretty interior. Who’s the audience? Whales doing a one and done for the Gram? Is Melissa and Doug from Shipshewana gonna blow $250 for dinner of mid upscale Mac n cheese and a souped up ham and cheese sandwich? Three teens blowing $23 dollars on a glittering cake slice? This has Star Cruiser part II written all over it. I respect the mad cake making skills. This would have been done better as a Pâtisserie, than a full service menu with mid food. After Valentines Day you will be able to shoot a cannon in there and hit no one.
This will fail and it's a shame. Go enjoy this while it's in existence. These slices are worth every penny. It's not just cake, but the amount of work and artistry that goes into each cake. Then you have a very opulent atmosphere, and to experience that normally comes with more than just sitting down for dessert and coffee. I love this, and although I'm poor, I'd go two to three times a year if I lived close just for the experience. You guys are lucky to have something like this. What the heck is $25 to share a piece of cake in such a nice place.
Can you explain the champagne bar? Is that separate from the restaurant? Do you need reservations? Can you just go to the champagne bar for a drink and not eat? Does it take the ddp? (Seems line no right now). We are staying at the boardwalk in April and need your expertise!
The problem is location. This would fit in very well at a high-priced, premium resort like the Grand Floridian, not the Crescent Lake complex. Disney is desperately chasing the elusive 1%-ers, like the dumb kid who opens a lemonade stand and charges $100 a glass, thinking to himself "All I have to do is sell ONE..."
Probably not happening. We aren't planning to visit the parks anytime soon and the parking charge would make eating here an even more painful experience than it already would be We'd either go to Disney Springs (which doesn't charge for parking) or just skip the House of Mouse altogether. I'm sure there's no shortage of good bakeries in Orlando and surrounding areas.
I can make the best chocolate cake ever for the same price as a slice here. Unless money is no object, not a chance I’d eat here. You’re paying for the atmosphere. I just don’t get setting prices so high. I’m from the UK, and even Harrods in London doesn’t charge any where near.
A) great job, AJ. B) as an Indy resident (Carmel is a suburb of Indy) and having been to both places here, the cakes are spectacular. Plan on sharing. Everything non-dessert is not worth the price.

Not to be a Debbie downer but us specially in today’s market Disney is crazy expensive expensive and then the bake shop $26 per salad yet out of here. I don’t think her shop is going to survive. It’s just too expensive. In that space specifically.
These prices are very much like many sit down restaurants at Disneyland. Even our hand made cocktails are on average $21 a piece now at the bars. Prices are not shocking to me.
Iger’s yacht just bought itself . This place is for splash out Disney whales. That’s fine. Gotta cater to the higher end peeps, but I think it will be a one and done for that crowd. I give it three years tops before this goes a way. I get the Indy places are uber busy, but that’s Indiana. How much high end bougie is going on there? Orlando has too many top tier places for the whales to try out besides this place.
OK OK so heres the thing, cakes in New York City can go up to 45$ per slice, and a full cake could go up to over 300$ for the whole cake. (hand piped flowers are super annoying to do) so yes, 22$ for a slice of cake can make your wallet scream, but I´m from the land of New England where EVERYTHING is expensive.
This is really just a Disney blogger trying her best to keep on good graces when there is clearly a product that did not meet her expectations . It’s sad that people have to kowtow to these sorts of behavior for risk of losing their livelihoods. Disney should do better than this and even if not directly owned keep partners in line with the vision for the park (as lackluster as that may sound at the moment).
While we were originally kind of shocked by the prices at Cake Bake Shop, we did really enjoy what we tried. Price-wise, some of the items are definitely a splurge, but that doesn't mean they're not good. We pay for all our own food when we review restaurants (if we've been invited by Disney, we'll always note that in our coverage). We try to keep our reviews balanced, because we know our audience has a broad range of budgets and palates, but when we truly don't like something or it's a bad deal we do share that
The general surprise at the updated prices seems a bit perplexing to me. This is, essentially, a Signature restaurant. And, when I think about brunch or similar dinners in major cities - NYC, DC, Chicago, Miami, LA, etc... these seem pretty... standard. I feel like more than anything, it's frame of reference. And, Cake Bake didnt do itself any favors with that original menu, which indeed had high prices... hence why they could cut so much.
What I was most excited to hear about in this review was the tea service. That's what was supposed to differentiate this restaurant from other sandwich shops and bakeries. Why is there no high tea review?
Is Paul Hollywood back their baking for them? $8 a coffee, $9 soda, $20 plus for a half sandwich and mediocre salad. $20-$30 for one slice of cake? I see some folks arguing about "just cause you can't afford it blah blah..." "why are you hating on them". That has nothing to do with it. This place will survive and do well as those in Beach, Yacht club and Boardwalk inn will fill this place up with reservations. However, it is about the quality of the food, versus the price. Many wealthy folks won't eat there for this reason. They'll make better choices. That is why they are wealthy. The atmsophere and ambiance look fantastic and I am sure the service will be tremendous but reality is if you are going to pay these prices I want my half sandwich and salad to be the best i've had or at least be very flavorful and filling. Doesnt look promising from the review. Charging $8 for what looks like a small specialty coffee is a tad egretious. I know going to eat at a Ramsay or Ducasse Michelin star restaraunt I am eating some of the best food ever prepared. Cake Bake shop charging you $22 for some "gourmet mac and cheese" or an average Caesar not so much. They'll get away with it, due to location to Epcot and those deluxe hotels around the Boardwalk.
Place looks very fancy but not impressed enough to try it especially since they force the gratuity on you. And thr prices for cake are beyond ridiculous
I would definitely try it once, but not really for mains. If I were staying nearby I’d love a later evening cup of soup that I heard is amazing plus a decaf & split a slice of cake with my daughter. Then back to the parks! Would one feel weird just having basically a snack & dessert there?
$21 for a cocktail! That better be the best cocktail ever....Some really upscale bars that are known to have award winning drinks don't charge that much for something with vodka!
So, for me, I am going to go into this slowly. I am not willing to drop three figures on a meal, if I don't like it. I think that it's reasonable to spend in and around $15-$25 at the walk up counter service FIRST, to get a taste of the idea of the place. AND THEN, if it's to one's liking, then yes.... Absolutely.... Splurge. That's my approach.
I literally just went to brunch at the fancy beach resort near my house - it was very similar to cake bake shop’s menu with prices were almost exactly the same. Two eggs were $18 and brunch cocktails were $19-25. Yes it is pricey, but it is what you pay in a lot of other places - it is a restaurant associated with a deluxe hotel. If it is too expensive don’t go. I personally am not the type to randomly buy a piece of cake or a baked good in the first place (I am savory girl - my cheat items are salty and likely fried😂😂😂), but I would give it a try for a special ladies brunch - bridesmaid lunch, Mother’s Day, something special and girly.
I went the other day and the prices were indeed shocking, but the atmosphere was just beautiful and the service was excellent. The food is comparable to upscale brunch places around my town. I’d go to Art Smith’s for brunch instead of here. I would recommend this place for special occasions for the atmosphere and service alone.
Gideon’s has got to love the fact that their cake slices are looking mighty affordable at $9!!
💯

While we were originally kind of shocked by the prices at Cake Bake Shop, we did really enjoy what we tried. Price-wise, some of the items are definitely a splurge, but that doesn't mean they're not good. We pay for all our own food when we review restaurants (if we've been invited by Disney, we'll always note that in our coverage). We try to keep our reviews balanced, because we know our audience has a broad range of budgets and palates, but when we truly don't like something or it's a bad deal we do share that
Maybe Trattoria Al Forno will bring back Rapunzel and Flynn to keep up the competition at the Boardwalk. I personally LOVE their pricy breakfast.
I did too!
No where else on property can you find a slice of cake for $25!!! That is absurdly overpriced
Nowhere else will you get a slice of cake that big.
BTW, I double checked with the management, the 20% gratuity is only charged for party of 6 or more.
A lot of people will giggle inside when this place closes because of its prices
What I was most excited to hear about in this review was the tea service. That's what was supposed to differentiate this restaurant from other sandwich shops and bakeries. Why is there no high tea review?
they took it off their service offerings (IE they aren't doing it)
We shall see how long it is before the cakes start to go stale from not being sold... That belongs in the grand Floridian not the board walk...
Dont hold your breath, even at the indiana locations they sell out regularly and it's hard to get a reservation
The original one opened in my home town. It is really good, but expensive. It is an experience for sure
We pronounce “Carmel” differently here in Indianapolis. No shade, just a regional difference.
Boy they look so good
Will this be on the Disney dining plan?
Superb ! I'm on my way from B.C. Canada
We find Disney dinner prices pretty much in line with our prices at home. NJ.
Can you request no edible glitter on your food?
jeez for those prices i could make a few boxes of this stuff
Then do it
They automatically ad a 20% to all bills?!
Is the $21 cosmo batch made?
20 for a Cosmopolitan? Christ. And that Key lime pie doesn't look that apppetizing either. I might steal their mac & cheese recipe.
CAR-mle, not car-MEL
I am a sweet girly and I would rather go to Les Halles in Epcot and get a mousse cake there for much cheaper price.
I'll just go to Denny's lol
I'd love to go once for a slice of the Millionaire cake. But I can't afford Disney at all anymore, so it's a moot point.
I was told you could make cake bake res on open table
Yes they’re available on Open Table now!
Gluten ouch, Lovely Cinematography!
Can’t wait to go ❤️❤️
I went the other day and the prices were indeed shocking, but the atmosphere was just beautiful and the service was excellent. The food is comparable to upscale brunch places around my town. I’d go to Art Smith’s for brunch instead of here. I would recommend this place for special occasions for the atmosphere and service alone.
We love it AJ
