      I moved to Florida 2 1/2 years ago and have absolutely no wish to ever visit WDW. It was nice in the mid-1970s but even by mid 1990s, the magic have given way to the realization it was just another amusement park. Today, it feels like adults trying to hold onto any sense of that magic they once felt are willingly letting themselves be fleeced.

    Fresh ingredients shipped in? Nothing fresh in Florida? Why ship bread in when the restaurant is a bakery? Shouldn't they have their own great bread? Sounds like they are trying to be pretentious, and that will convince you it tastes better. I'm thinking of a chef who has 5 James Beard awards for pastry and wouldn't dream of charging that kind of money for his spectacular bakes. Wish them luck but won't last.

    • @jaklg7905
      @jaklg7905 3 месяца назад +22

      This is what annoys me. People where trying to justify the prices of her baked goods because she has "won awards", but then to find out she doesn't actually make in house just shows how much more greedy this is. And clearly those croissants are shipped frozen.

      If you know anything about Florida then you would know that any reputable bakery that's not based here will have their items shipped in because the water here ruins anything you bake. It's filled with chlorine, the taste is horrible. Einstein Bagels gets the dough shipped in from New York. There's a Chicago (where I'm from) pizza place here that gets the dough shipped in from Chicago. So I completely understand that. Still does not justify the prices. Its definitely a rip off.

    • @Paperista
      @Paperista 15 дней назад +1

      @@trinachareseluv No bakeries in Florida make their own bread? Doubtful. Orlando water is terrible. Thank goodness they filter it for drinking. Ever get water at a WDW resort? Filtered, no salt. No salty tea, coffee or soda. (except at that Pinnochio restaurant, sickening) All made with Orlando water, because they filter it. Same thing restaurants do, commercial businesses do. All yeast breads contain water, using the "bad" water theory, nothing could be made there. So, either all their bread is made by someone else, or their water is filtered, and they should be making their own French loaves. Bagels from NY are unique because of the ph of the water of the Catskills, which supplies the city, completely different. Besides, all of their stuff is shipped in, but most made locally. It is made in an industrial park 30 minutes away and shipped over frozen. Nothing a modest home cook couldn't manage. BTW, that famous French bread, can be purchased online and shipped to your home for a fraction of the cost. Add a little deli meat (not like they cook a turkey or ham) and you have the same thing.

      @@MarieJesne Marcel Desaulniers. Sadly, he just died a few months ago. He owned the famous, The Trellis, restaurant in Colonial Williamsburg. He coined the term Death by Chocolate, and has a dessert, cookbook and PBS series by the same name. The dessert, in seven layers, including chocolate cake, ganache, whipped truffles, chocolate dried meringue, etc. It was specular and was hugely expensive at $11-$14 (can't remember). He was a champion of using regular ingredients, saying you could and should use Baker's Chocolate from the grocery story. Not only is it widely available, but knowing the proper technique, with skill you could turn it into anything as amazing as a Valrhona chocolate. There are videos of his shows on YT. Sad that he is gone, one of the greats. (Also, thinking of world-famous chocolatier Jacque Torres who charges less for choc. chip cookies and truffles in Manhattan.)

    Normalizing this kind of repugnant price gouging is the biggest problem. There's NO justification whatsoever for prices like these. Regardless if it happens to be good or even great, any justifications being made for prices like these would be enabling more establishments to price gouge like this. If this sets a bar for price points, then others will eventually go even higher. The prices ALONE should disqualify it from even being considered. Just because Disney gouges for the resorts doesn't justify a third party restaurant gouging as well. I'll NEVER give them a dime.

Many people like us might splurge on one or two nights at a deluxe resort and are still budget conscious on meals. I would never spend that much unless we saved up for something like Victoria and Albert’s. We’ve done several meals at sit down restaurants at deluxe resorts like the Poly, Wlderbess Lidge, and AKL, and did not spend as much as the cake bake shop would cost. I’m very curious to see how it does. Thank you for your honest review!

Sorry to burst your bubble. Yes, there are people who are conservative with their spending and therefore build wealth when otherwise they might not. Examples of misers quietly building wealth and dying rich abound. However, your little proverb ignores the reality of people who are rich and spend their money on places exactly like the Cake Bake Shop, so it is a half-truth at best. Just from the looks of the food I can say: NO, it is NOT worth it! I am astounded how people get scammed by Disney. The interior of this restaurant is hideous, artificial and uncultured, and the food and the cakes are awful! Just go to a Viennese coffee house, for example, and you can see the difference in interior and offering of cakes & pastries. Even Vienna is cheaper, and offers a LOT more culture and great food! Americans really do not have eating culture...

    We had a seafood restaurant across from my old shop that would cater our events. I'm sure we had a bit of a friends-and-family discount, but we could still get twelve good size crab cakes for fifty bucks. So then, by default, if the CakeBake shop opened a location next door to the AllStars resort or Art of Animation then their menu prices for the same items would cost less! That would never happen. This is just an inherently expensive restaurant for non spectacular food.
