Such simple tricks that are so effective. I painted two leaves, one I applied the new skills learned here and the other I made no changes. It’s amazing how effective this trick is with just subtle changes. Really ups my Procreate water color! Thank you.
I wish I'd found your brushes and your tutorials sooner! I've been so frustrated with some other brushes that I bought that weren't working the way I thought they were going to. Your tutorials are amazingly clear and so helpful, and your brushes and paper texture is AMAZING!
Thank you Calvin! I have seen some artist use a special brush with already that kind of edge. Have tried to create it but reached a similar not the burnt edge we have here.
I've had this brush set for a few months and it took me this long to learn this. I kept wondering how the heck people get their procreate watercolor to look so crisp. Thanks for sharing!
That was SO helpful! The way I learned originally through others was to take a black soft brush around every.single.piece and then change the blend mode, and that is how I have been doing it! This way is exponentially quicker, and has about the same outcome! Thank you!!
Wow here I was avoiding the harsh watercolor edges in my actual watercolor work and there are people out there going through the trouble to add them! That makes me feel better about those in my works :)
Super grateful. Very good advice, easy to understand and for once, a tutorial that is filmed correctly without annoying loud music in the background.. SUBSCRIBED!
Hi Calvin - I have learned So Much about using Procreate from your great tutorials and questions you’ve answered for me. I always look forward to the next one! 😊 Thank You!
Thanks for the amazing tips! Would love to see some tutorials on urban sketching... With buildings included etc specially interested in the architecture ! 😊😊
I'm so glad you like it 😊 Have you seen this video? It might help: ruclips.net/video/sCj2E9Tp3_8/видео.html I definitely need to make a tutorial for sketching buildings, but I think I'd use the same technique as in that video
I first very happy with this wonderful video and also I was got a three blank watercolor texture paper with my brushes from other tutorial .but I don’t know how to use them. Please tell me how can I to use them, it’s only three times to use or I can copy them always thanks for your help
Hi Calvin, I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for sharing your knowledge and skill. I have learned more from you over these past few months than I have in years. You have a knack for explaining things and I am extremely grateful to have found your channel. I have fallen in love with digital watercolor. I love all of your videos but I've especially been digging the landscapes and scenes. Do you happen to have a facebook group by any chance where we could share the result of your lessons?
Hi! Thank you so much for your kind message :] I love digital watercolor and I am really glad you find my videos helpful. I don't have a facebook group, but I do have an instagram page where you can tag #ProcreateWatercolorStudio
Hi! The automatic selection still works in procreate and not really anything has changed - can you explain what you mean? I would love to help 🙏🙏 Sometimes the selection tool goes haywire if you accidentally turn on the Color Fill setting.
Great tip, thank you 👍🏻 My abstract round brush is showing up quite thin (I noticed yours was thick in the brushes menu) Is there a way to change this?
Thank you so much ❤️ Can you check on the pressure curve setting in Procreate? That is usually responsible for this type of problem. You can 'reset' it
I don’t get it, it doesn’t work the same for me. The auto selection tool selects middle of leaves instead of sides, and there is no red colour, and even if I feather it out to 2-3%, the outline is incredibly faint. What am I doing wrong?
This might be a baby question, but how do you set your brush the way it is shown in your video? I want to set my brush, so that when it first touches the pad, it will start small. Mine starts with a big chunk, if you know what I mean.
Hi Ceci! The brush is supposed to start small -- If it doesn't, there might be a problem. Here are some possible reasons for this problem: 1. Apple Pencil. The brushes will only with with the pencil, not with your finger 2. Old Procreate. You might have a very old version of procreate, possibly version 4. If this is the case, you can message me on etsy and I can send you a compatible version (or you can update your procreate) 3. Pressure curve. Can you try to reset the pressure curve setting in procreate? It may have a custom setting You can always message me on etsy and we can work together to make the brushes work correctly :]
Hi Calvin, whatever I try to do exactly the same things you showed us, my selection doesn’t take only the edges to darken them, but the complete leaves. What’s going wrong?
Hi! The automatic selection tool is adjustable. So, if it's selecting everything, it may just be set too high. You can adjust the 'threshold' by sliding the pen around - can you give that a try?
Can you make a turtorial how to cut a illustration from Your papier structure background with Hairy edges, for exampel, a hairy dog. I can cut out a illustration with hard edges easy, but when I draw a dog or other animal with bristly edge it’s not working well. Can you make a turtorial about this? Thank u for your Amazing insights!
Hi! Have you tried the Automatic selection tool? Can you send me an example of the sort of image you are struggling with? I might be able to find a way
Your brushes are amazing but they don't seem to like me. Nothing has a real shape to it. I tried checking in preference to be sure the pressure curve was set and it was correct. I also tried your cute goldfish example but my shapes don't have any shape. They are just vague and wiggly which looks kinda cool but not if I want to draw a leaf or a goldfish. The other problem I am having is with feathering a selection. In this tutorial I drew the random shape and even just 1 or 2 percent fills up most of the canvas. Any suggestions?
Hi Ellen! The selection issue is happening because you have 'color fill' enabled. It's easy to do it by accident - it's an option right next to 'feather' The brush issues sounds like you might not be using an apple pencil. If you are, you can check the version of Procreate you have because older versions from last year can have a similar problem. You can always message me on Etsy and we can work together and resolve it :)
maybe its because procreate updated, but now, instead of the hue, saturation, and brightness changing the edge- it changes the “unfeathered area” am i doing something wrong? or is there no way to achieve this effect now
Hi! The effect is still working fine :) all they added is the option to select either Layer or Pencil. You should only select Layer, then you can follow the video like normally :)
Hi! I sell the textures in my Etsy shop (I make them with me scanner and Photoshop) you can learn more about all of this in the description of the video :)
Thanks for the tutorial! I have only one question: what is the difference between multiply and normal setting for layers ? I tried it several times and didn’t see any difference between them 🤔
I dont know if you found a reply to this question already but with normal layer what you add usually covers the image under it, whereas if you use multiply you can paint over something without covering it. For example lets say you would like to paint shadow on the eyes of the character but instead of trying to search for a perfect color that would show the color of the eyes with a shadow you just use multiply to cast shadow on eyes that are already colored. Same when you want to put shadows on a tshirt with patterns, adding normal layer would cover the patterns while multiply just adds the shadows keeping the image under the same.
I saw him again, he was ok, just in a quieter mood. I think he was noisy before because he wanted the farmer to move the rope he was on to a better location to graze (they want to eat the banana tree)
I've used procreate for years and I didn't even know about the feathering. This is going to change my life 😂

Very handy, thanks! I need to learn about transparency modes, I don't understand them at all.

Hahaha! I used to hate them as well - Transitioning to digital made me miss them a bit. Sometimes digital can look too smooth and perfect
I love that you post many tutorials these days. I bought ur brush last year but didn’t know how to use. Now I can! Thanks for awesome tutorials!!
Thank you so much :]

I've been meaning to ask you if you could do a video showing how you would follow a regular watercolor video but on procreate. That would be awesome!
Hi! This is a great idea! Thank you :]
This is very clever. I'll definitely try this in next sketch

Wow! Instant sub!
Excellent tutorial, thanks!
Thank you so much for the tutorials
I loved using the automatic feature but can’t find it now on Procreate. Is there a new video showing how to get the same results?

I can't use more than 9 layers with the watercolor texture, how can I unblock the limit ?
love your channel :)
