    I play off 5, I game traditionally lofted irons, 84 mph swing speed. On course I carry it 155, off a tee it’s 160 yards. I game T100 titleist. I think they’re 34 degrees of loft. But it’s all about the short game. I shot 72 last week level par because my short game was shit hot, not because I was ripping my 7 iron 190 yards. Doesn’t matter.

      Moe Norman. The guy was not long, but very accurate. His putting was not great and that was a serious detriment. If you are skilled around the green, your game will rival those that hit the green every time. I don’t care if you hit the green and you are seventy feet from the hole. Someone with a short iron will strike it closer than you can putt. If you are not working on your short game at least 60% of the time, you are going to have a long day.

So if you’re thinking, “I’d love Simon’s help but he’s a long way from me, is it worth it?” or “am I too old, too slow, too whatever, will he help me?” or, “ is he really that nice, that helpful, that enthusiastic in person?” the answer is, “Yes, yes and yes!” I just had a lesson with fitting and I’m blown away. No more expensive than my local club pro either! 😮 Make that call, send that message. BTW thanks Simon! 😉

    I don't know if this was the video you're referencing, but Matt actually used 3 heads, Ping Blueprint S (full forged, smaller) which comes in 31.5, 33 and 35. Carried 185/87 @ 33' ; Ping i530 (hollow body, forger face, slightly larger) comes in 27.5, 29 and 31. Carried 207/12 @ 29'; and Ping G730 (cavity back, larger) which comes in 26.5, 28 and 30. Carried 217/18 @ 26.5. Matt's 6i is 30' for reference. The last Ping at 26.5' is stronger than his 5i. Summary lower lofts but higher flights, more spin to less spin. Bottom line get fit. Great info, thanks.

    I played a traditionally lofted set of irons for 20 years. 35 degree 7 iron that went 155 to 160. I got older, got some injuries and distance fell into the 145 to 150 range. So I went looking for new clubs. This was several years back so at the time I picked up a Taylor Made M4 and promptly hit the 7 iron 190 yards. That was definitely too far! At the time I ended up with a set of Mizuno JPX 8 something pro's and a a 7 iron yardage of 160 to 165 yards. Easy enough to adjust to. Last year I went back and forth between the Taylormade P770 and the Titleist T100s. Waited and waited and then the T150 came out so I went and tested both again and the T150 was the winner on feel alone. 7 Iron distance stayed right in the 160 to 165 range and I have a better feeling and less beat up set of irons. For me and the courses I play having a few extra yards was not a big adjustment and helps a little while still allowing me to use most of my bag. With an iron like that old M4 I suppose I could have adjusted but I just don't need the ego boost of saying I hit a 7 190 when what I was really hitting was a 5 iron.

    Awesome stuff Simon. What about if you shorten the shaft of the Stealth model like an inch under the P7MC. Then maybe see if the distances are the same but if accuracy is better. Could make for a reason why 90mph speeds could use the “game improvement” models at the top end of the bag.

  • @CharlesFromage
    @CharlesFromage 19 дней назад

    92-94mph 7 iron (T300). 185ish yds on simulator but more like 180 on course. I struggle with shallow AoA and overdraw, but wonder if it would just make sense to flatten lie and weaken loft a degree? (Maybe add some lead tape in the high toe?) Better to fix existing clubs than find new/used ones?
    On the other hand I feel like distance/direction issues are less than issue with getting “flyers”. I typically stay around the middle of the club, but with T300 I occasionally get an extra 10 yards if I absolute middle the sweet spot-especially with the 5-7 iron.

      Yeah it would have given you those balls as they perform better from around the green. Similar to the z star mate. The tour doesn’t have a urethane cover, hence a bit cheaper but not giving you control on the short shots. 👌

    My H,I, is 2.0 at the moment. I play Mizuno MP 60 irons so my 7 iron is 35 degrees. I play for it to go 165 on course but comfortably carry it 170 at cruising speed on the launch monitor. I find shot type makea a massive difference where in order to get that 170 and above number I just take it back with a large hip turn and keep my right( back hip high) then have patience while waiting for the head to make impact. Spin comes down on those types of shots.

      I just got myself a 6 year old King Forged One Length set. 7 is 33deg. I'm enjoying hitting these way more than my 25 year old game improvement irons as I was getting sick and tired if hitting the green, with a goid strike, and watching it bounce out the back. Now getting an average of 6yd roll-out with the 7. The feel is also brilliant.

    I am still amazed at the number of people who just take loft on its own as a sign of how far a ball will go. Irons with a lower CG launch higher, so at traditional lofts wouls not go anywhere near far enough so the loft is stronger to rebalance. Its not a one number calculation.

    It's all about gapping. Take a random player. Lob wedge goes 70. Driver goes 230. You then want 10-15 between clubs. So SW 85, GW 100, PW 115, 9 130, 8 140, 7 150, 6 160, 5 170 4h 180 3h 190 3w 205. Find the set/loft that does that. What's the point of a 200 yard 7-iron?

    • @wallysnakes2690
      @wallysnakes2690 10 дней назад

      I can push my 7 to 200 easily. My swing speed for 7i is 95-100 and driver is 115-120. My normal yardages are:
      60: everything under 75
      54: 75-110
      AW: 115-125
      PW: 130-145
      9: 160
      8: 175
      7: 190
      6: 200
      5: 210
      3w: 240-285
      D: 280+

    • @wallysnakes2690
      @wallysnakes2690 10 дней назад

      And I can get them all to stop and spin back except for 6 and 5

    • @jeroengoudswaard1176
      @jeroengoudswaard1176 10 дней назад

      So you need to evenly gap between 75 and 280. That should ideally be an even 15 yard 75-90-105-120-135-150-165-180-195-210-225-240-280. Whatever set of clubs does the trick. It appears your gaps are a little big on the low end.

    The mind boggles .
    Hit any club a lot and you will find what minor variation in your swing gets the best and most repeatable results , i lost my club number ego long ago but sometimes still end up trying to hit the distance rather than trying to connect well , which only ever ends badly .
    Why is it when youve spent a year or two learning the idiosyncrasies of a club that people feel the need to change to a new model that they have no feel for ?
    I rarely see that end well .
    Any decent brand unfettled clubs from the last ten years are going to perform well if used correctly .
