It's not contrary actually, Aegon and Visenya break apart not because they lose Rhaenys who glued them together. They can't stand each other anymore because: First they both grieving. Second, Aegon couldn't let Rhaenys out of his mind and somewhat wish it was Visenya who's gone, not Rhaenys. And Visenya hate him for that.
As I recall, The whole “10 nights for Rhaenys and 1 for Visenya” thing was a rumor spread by housemaids and cooks and it wasn’t confirmed or denied in the lore. Visenya is confirmed to have loved Rhaenys though, after she died and they sent a piece of Rhaenys’s dragon she was ready to turn Dorne to glass.
She prepared her son to take the throne and murder her sister's children. And yes that "for every one night with Visenya there were 10 with Rhaenys" part is true, I read it last week in the "Fire & Blood" book. Sha wanted to burn Dorne because she is a warmonger and a bit more bloodthirsty than her younger sister, which reflected in Maegor. You're both silly for believing in "true love". What? Do you believe in Santa Claus too? Love isn't destiny and it sure as heck isn't passion. Love is a choice. It's a commitment and a series of sacrifices that only end the day you die. It's a willingness to give up your own wants and desires for someone else without them even knowing you did it, because you didn't do it for the back pats. You did it for love's own sake. If you're willing to sacrifice the passion/dopamine rush/lust you might feel for some rando in order to honor the commitments you've made that just might...MIGHT...be the closest thing to true love that will ever exist in this world. You're more likely to find "true love" in an arranged marriage between two strangers than you ever will between two romantics chasing desire and passion.

Strangers can choose each other. Strangers can sacrifice for each other. Strangers can commit to each other. We know this because up until about 5 minutes ago on the cosmic clock, that's what people did all throughout human history. People who chase dopamine have no concept of what love is. Maegor had a cool relationship with Aenys . Remember Aenys gave Maegor Blackfyre and named him his Hand , he wouldn't have done it if they hated each other
That relationship is such a headscratcher. There seemed to be a lot of respect between the brothers. And Maegor stayed in exile when Aenys sent him away, and didn't come back until Visenya came to get him. He even was willing to let his nieces and nephews go free into exile (despite the bounties he put on their heads). But once he got his hands on Aegon and Viserys, he tore them limb from limb. And raped and abused Rhaena.
@@xxwhispersxx2856I think the relationship between Aenys and Maegor is kind of like what Viserys and Daemon from HotD have. The weak older brother that wants peace, the wild, dangerous younger brother that wants to burn the world into submission. The younger brothers still loved their older brothers despite hating them for their weakness.
the thing is that yes while they didnt hate each other and aenys respected and loved him half brother, maegor as well as visenya and everyone else knew that aenys wouldnt be able to keep his fathers legacy. he was weak and was not meant to rule. he was really similar to rhaenys and didnt have a warriors soul. even maegors love for his brother kept him from usurping aenyss throne during his reign
I think maester bias is really here when it comes to Maegor. Ofc he didnt care about lives of common people, his wives etc, but in the first part of his reign he also didnt actively pursue violence towards his kin for violence sake. He took the crown and totaly ignored Rhaena and Aegon, to be fair i can imagine them making agreement if Aegon wasnt dumb enough to challenge the authority of a guy riding Balerion. However that line was crossed when he killed Viserys
Yeah reading fire and blood i dont get the impression that maegor was as bad as is commonly thought. At any time maegor could easily have killed his brother and taken the throne, but he never did so, and not for a lack of ambition. To me he seems like daemon who "won."
But Daemon is greater than Meagor obviously. Daemon is dangerous, but only for those who want to harm him. Besides, he never intended to harm Rhaenyra, his niece. He could kill her and get the throne. But, no, he chose her, not the throne. Daemon was indeed the protector of realm. Obviously Maegor was also the protector of his dynasty.
Entirely speculation, obviously, but I think the resentment might have been more “If you wanted to marry her, why did you go through the wedding with me?” Visenya and Aegon’s marriage was arranged by their father. Neither particularly wanted it but both did it out of duty. Aegon then married the sister he wanted anyway while still trapping Visenya in a marriage she didn’t particularly want. They only had Maegor to essentially prove that yes, Aegon could father children, that he now had two sons who were definitely his and there was the “heir and a spare”. I don’t think they were particularly attracted to each other sexually, but there was a lot of respect and familial love there.
idk man you are also just assuming visenya didn't like aegon that way, aegon was tall imposing and very smart so it's not unlikely she liked him in a sexual manner and it's not like the "aegon visited rheanys 10 time for every 1 visit he did with visenya" is actually true. it could just just be a way of saying rheanys is the favorite but that doesn't mean he doesn't love or like visenya as a wife because visenya is a hottie bro in a tomboy way. no man would say no to a woman like visenya.
@mesa577 Well, for one, you don't know how their personalities mixed. Maybe they didn't agree on the more minute things in life, you never know. She did respect him, and of course they're family and she supports him, but we don't know what Aegon likes in women. Maybe tomboy aren't his thing, we can't say for sure.
Depends. I mean, if he married her to a Celtigar or a Velaryon, perhaps that could've done some good, but we don't know how their situation went down regarding marriage.
Nah , Aegon was like 15 when they got married it's not like they had a choice here ! Their union wasn't based on romantic love but on duty ! The firstborn male and female of their house inherit dragon stone by tradition
@@thalmoragent9344 yeah it’s really all speculation on the personal affairs of the Targaryen’s but I imagine they came to love each other, but I personally don’t see that relationship running smoothly especially under stress, at least they had plenty of time to work out the kinks of it.
I don't think there was any rivalry between the sisters. It was never even hinted at that Visenya was jealous of Rhaenys, i don't think Visenya even loved Aegon romantically either, theirs was a political marriage, the other one was a love marriage and as long as both goals (Aegon and Rhaenys being together and the seven kingdoms being conquered) I don't think any of the 3 had a problem with it.
@@DizzyBusy stop this nonsense JRRM wrote the books and has talked about them ad nauseum... what evidence is there to suggest what you are saying and i'm talking about hard evidence.. not an"it is myown comprehension of the story" you didnt write the story.
I don't think Visenya had much interest in Aegon or marriage as a whole. I think she was simply loyal to the traditions of their house and her family. The two older siblings were most likely betrothed at a young age. Visenya and Aegon were raised to "do their duty" and marry each other, but Aegon fell for Rhaenys. Going as far as to revive an old tradition just to be with her as well. I think Visenya loved her younger siblings and only wanted to protect them. Aegon was ambitious brash, while Rhaenys was flightly. Visenya was the only one of the 3 conquerors that thought more than a few steps ahead. She was calculating and more than willing to do what ever it took to see their dream of uniting and ruling the seven kingdoms come to fruition. Visenya was steel to Aegon's fire. Rhaenys was silk to the much harsher natures of her elder siblings. She softened them, and when she died they became cold and hard to everyone. Each other included.
Possibly as she was prone to knowledge about their culture that the other siblings may not have learned. Very pragmatic and deliberate. Honestly she maybe should have been in charge or at least Aenys’s hand and the hand of the king should always be a Targaryen
I think Visenya's love was in power. She was the one people feared. She was the one who actually ruled the kingdoms. Rhaenys was softer, she was definitely Aegon's real love.
I don't think Visenya hated Rhaenys. There were no mention in the books that the sisters hate each other, not even the slightest. The three understood their role in the conquest, they were a team. Aegon, the conqueror Rhaenys, the diplomat Visenya, the mastermind
Honestly, I always imagined that Aegon, at the very least, respected Visenya as a warrior and as his blood sister, even if he didnt love her as a wife or as a sister. I mean, if my sister loyally fought for me without fail or hesitation, she would at least get my respect Also, Im pretty sure Visenya loved Rhaenys. She even mourned with Aegon when they heard of her death. Also, consider Threesome but its like Aegon and Visenya sharing Rhaenys
I’m still broken after years by Rhaenys’ death, and even worse the theories around letter that Aegon received from the Dornish envoys, that goes like that Rhaenys was still alive but was tortured and only through accepting a truce Aegon could relieve her😭 why George?!
This theory can't be completely true except the fact that Rhaenys was alive and she was sick poorly due to injuries suffered in the battle. It can be concluded that Dornish never tortured or violated her leading Aegon to go for truce. The theory of Aegon seeing her in deathbed at Dragonstone can be a supporting factor for this.
@@forestrees2000 why not, those fuckers killed thousands of innocent people in different battles and burned cities. They certainly deserved whatever happened to those insectious bastards 😂😂😂
It’s also possible they were all into each other as it’s noted Visenya was completely heart broken when she heard about Rhaenys’ death. It should also be noted that Visenya may been given the short end of the stick biography wise as she birthed Maegor, the universally despised dictator, so it’s possible these types of claims are little digs at her expense
I think visenya had a sibling love for Aegon, had sex with him out of duty/to cement their dynasty, but actual romantic affection develops between him and rhaenys

I’m sure Aegon also married both his sisters to secure his chances of having future heirs to continue the Targaryen bloodline and dynasty. Cause in the dark ages pregnancy was way harder and your chances of dying in childbirth were like 60/40 so that’s most likely another reason Aegon wanted 2 pregnant wives instead of 1.
Exactly Marrying Rhaenys wasnt purely out of love because Rhaenys also had a dragaon and letting her marry someone else would result in sharing the access to dragons with someone else.too
Bold of you to assume that Visenya didn't love Rhaenys too. I really hate the idea of a love triangle between the sisters and Aegon to be honest. I don’t think Visenya cared to be in one and there's no indication that she had any feelings for Aegon beyond stern sisterly affection. With Rhaenys on the other hand I could see Visenya be closer to her.
I assumed Visenya and Aegon had a professional relationship, if not a sibling or romantic relationship. Like, they were more coworkers than brother-sister or husband-wife. So, I dont think she minds being third wheel

No I think Visenya being the eldest knows the most about their culture so she tried to hold on to it while her siblings kind of adopted Westerosi ways easier than she did. She raised Maegor the way Valyrian men were raised. You take power not inherit it. She probably had very different views as they aged and when it came to ruling it was clear men ruled in Westeros while it’s unknown how women faired in Valyria but it seems likely that had more say like in Dorne. Otherwise Visenya would have never been so good with a sword. House Targaryen’s women seemed to be able to decide which role to pick when there were multiple women which likely also kept the peace. Aegon started to rule Westeros his way which did not follow traditional Valyrian ways so they ended up spending less and less time together and I doubt they ever stopped caring for each other but Rhaenys might have also played a vital role in mediating their quarrels. Without her they went on two different paths because they clearly had different visions for ruling.
This is a big thing, but the Maesters despise Polygamy. They were not fans of incest either, but the maesters see Polygamy as worse than Incest. This is important because this idea that Aegon loved one of his sisters more is written by a maester centuries after Aegon died. The Maesters are all generally anti targaeryen and both the world book and Fire and Blood show thus bias heavily. The Maesters are also generally very sexist. They constantly underplay the achievements of women in these books and often paint them as the villains. The biggest example is how Visenya is portrayed. Despite there being almost zero evidence, the maesters theorize she poisoned Aegon's firstborn and this pattern repeats throughout the two books. I bring this up because a lot of people take the information in the world book and Fire and Blood at face value
Yes, but it's up to GRRM to provide the real information. If he's just writing rumors then why would you even invest in the worldbuilding, if nothing is reliable? That's not good writing. The truth still needs to be delivered within his writings one way or another or else it's just a waste of time.
It seemed to me that Aenys and Maegor kind of liked each other, or at least respected each other. No real quarrels, and plenty of respectful words and gestures, if not fond ones.
I like to think that Aegon and Visenya had a decent relationship, probably more like a brother and sister. They weren’t in love and they did their duties since they were married, but Aegon didn’t disrespect Visenya by taking another wife like his lords wanted him to and Visenya wanted to protect him by forming the Kingsguard, even saving his life on occasion. Also, there’s a theory I like that Visenya made Maegor using sorcery since she hadn’t had any children with Aegon despite them being married for years. And there’s another that Aenys was actually the son of Rhaenys and one of the pretty bards and musicians she was known to keep around her. I think that’s rather fitting in a story so centralized on rightful heirs and royal struggles that The Conqueror himself had no biological children. It makes sense given GRRM’s writing themes

Maegor had no grudge against Aenys, he only had issues with his sons as he thought they won't be able to protect House Targaryen against the Faith. This is very similar to Daemon who also was a good brother to Viserys but despised his children with Alicent since Hightowers indirectly controlled the Faith. Both Maegor and Daemon are villanised in the history because history is written by the maesters of old town, who also have a strong belief in Faith of the seven. Blood of the dragon actually ran very thick in those two
I don’t think there was a rivalry between the sisters. I mean Visenya clearly was Not happy when Rhaenys was killed and Visenya did want her son Maegor to marry his niece, the granddaughter of her sister Rhaenys.
What a weird way to present this they all loved each other in their own way. Yes it is said that he married Visenya out of duty that is 1. speculation and 2. Visenya would not be jealous of Rhaenys she was a warrior! It is never mentioned that she is jealous of Rhaenys nor does it come across that way. The only area where that could slightly be true is the order of secession but even then she’d be jealous of Aenys. The sisters are two completely different people with different interests. But I mean pop off with the same speculation and misogyny as the UNRELIABLE narrator Archmaester Gyldayn.
Visenya was a warrior and tactician, Rhaenys was the politician and strategist, both were beautiful but Rhaenys was more beautiful and charming than Visenya.
Visenya and Maegor were the reason why Aegon and Rhaenys's Bloodline survived and sat on the throne...If Maegor wouldn't be acted as The Cruel then Jaehaerys wouldn't be named as The Conciliator bcz there wouldn't have been any Targaryen alive to sit the throne..To talk about peace you must have someone who is capable of great violence
Visenya wasn’t jealous of Rhaenys, she got along pretty well and when Rhaenys died, she was heartbroken… there are also rumors that Aegon and Orys was lovers… there is no way to know the factual truth unless the author opens his mouth and tells us

They say Aegon married Visenya for duty and Rhaenys for love. I don’t know if that’s true but even if Aegon loved Rhaenys more, there was still a strong bond between the sisters and Visenya was heartbroken and enraged at Rhaenys’s death

Wow, the morality of the rich and powerful is really remarkable, considering how they believe they've either been rightfully chosen or deservedly risen to positions of power to rule over us.
No, Marrying the older sister was a Valrian tradition not just the Targaryen as was polygamy. There also was no rivalry between Aenys and Meagor, they got along fine until they had an argument over marital issues.
Considering how she reacted during the Dragon's Wroth, I don't think she was jealous of Rhaenys. She and Aegon seemed to have more of a typical brother-sister relationship dynamic. She was older, so she naturally assumed the more protective role. If Aegon was in love with Rhaenys and spent more time with her, that meant Visenya was forced to do her duty as a wife less often, saving both her and Aegon from discomfort at having to be intimate. Also, we only see Visenya have Maegor after Rhaenys was dead, and Aenys was seen as weak and unfit. Otherwise, it seemed like she was content with letting Rhaenys produce the heirs while she waged war.
I've always thought Visenya loved Aegon and Rhaynes as brother and sister, and that Aegon and Rhaynes were the real couple and Visenya was cool with it
He married Rhaenys because he loved her. He was married to Visenya for the Targaryen tradition but he spent most of his nights with Rhaenys. In the end it was Visenya’s son who would rule for a time under her authority though.
Personally, I think the entire marriage was political. If either one of the sisters married into another house and gave them dragons, it would've undermined House Targaryen power. It could've caused the Dance of the Dragons earlier, but instead of siblings, it would have been between cousins. However, it might have also help unite Westeros even further if Aegon's sisters married into different houses and their children married back into House Targaryen as this would not upset the Faith and create the Faith Militant. This may help House Targaryen to be more accepted by the people of Westeros. Since cousin marriages still keep their bloodline pure while not being seen as taboo as sibling marriages.
Visenya loved Rhaenys and mourned for her when she died. Rhaenys I think was the glue between siblings because Aegon and Visenya's relationship deteriorated after Rhaenys died.
They got them blood magical-dragon-Nazi ubergenes, I guess. Or maybe GRRM filters reality through PHub's most popular search terms. Regardless: no King Charles II "The Sufferer" aka "The Alabaman" for the Targs.

So ultimately, Ageon caused the fall of his family through chaos over love.
Let's change the phrase to "Don't let your marriage AND blood relation stop you from finding true love."
@@TheCrimsonRevengerhow can you find true love between two strangers..?
At first i was buying it because of the phrase u added (do u believe in santa claus) but then all true love crap.. What are u a hypocrite?
@@uditraviraj8261 I literally explained what love actually is. So read past the point where you got triggered and there you shall find your answer.
But here, i'll try to make it so simple even a five-year old's attention span can grasp it.
Love is what you do. Love is what you choose. Love is what you sacrifice.
Love is not a dopamine rush.
Strangers can choose each other. Strangers can sacrifice for each other. Strangers can commit to each other. We know this because up until about 5 minutes ago on the cosmic clock, that's what people did all throughout human history.
People who chase dopamine have no concept of what love is. They're selfish and short-sighted and constantly prowling for whoever can give them the next dopamine hit like sad little junkies.

Of course she loved Rhaenys. Rhaenys is her sister anyway. No one said she hated Rhaenys. She just jealous. But jealousy didn't destroy her love.
@@xxwhispersxx2856 Maegor gave his nephews and neices a choice and they didn't live with it . He wouldn't have killed them if they went to Essos
Visenya loved her sister too. She burned every castle in dorne when Rhaenys was killed.
Maegor always respected Aenys beacuse he was older and never wanted kill him even serve him they were like Viserys and Daemon at one point
Maegor was essential like everyone said he had to make sure the dynasty would last even without a conqueror.
And they ruled well for the 2 years too it seems.
@mesa577
Well, for one, you don't know how their personalities mixed.

Visenya was the most underrated Targaryen in history. I think Dark Sister is a magical blade.

Aegon went of hundreds of royal progresses to know Westeros better 😂
I don't think Visenya hated Rhaenys. There were no mention in the books that the sisters hate each other, not even the slightest. The three understood their role in the conquest, they were a team.
Aegon, the conqueror
Rhaenys, the diplomat
Visenya, the mastermind
Honestly, I always imagined that Aegon, at the very least, respected Visenya as a warrior and as his blood sister, even if he didnt love her as a wife or as a sister. I mean, if my sister loyally fought for me without fail or hesitation, she would at least get my respect
Also, Im pretty sure Visenya loved Rhaenys. She even mourned with Aegon when they heard of her death.

Dorne was the only kingdom to with stand the targaryen rule, this was how
This theory can't be completely true except the fact that Rhaenys was alive and she was sick poorly due to injuries suffered in the battle. It can be concluded that Dornish never tortured or violated her leading Aegon to go for truce. The theory of Aegon seeing her in deathbed at Dragonstone can be a supporting factor for this.

It also prevents any other house from acquiring a wife who's a dragon rider and thus seeding possible civil war.

If only we got the tv show about the whole westeros history, especially, Robert's rebellion
Aegon: *points at viseanya* this is good, *points at rhaenys* but I like this
No I think Visenya being the eldest knows the most about their culture so she tried to hold on to it while her siblings kind of adopted Westerosi ways easier than she did.

Then the whole my blood who come prince that was promised thing has no use

Maegor had no grudge against Aenys, he only had issues with his sons as he thought they won't be able to protect House Targaryen against the Faith. This is very similar to Daemon who also was a good brother to Viserys but despised his children with Alicent since Hightowers indirectly controlled the Faith. Both Maegor and Daemon are villanised in the history because history is written by the maesters of old town, who also have a strong belief in Faith of the seven. Visenya didn't even want to marry her brother, but since he was her little brother, she would protect him as best as she could since they are family.
I don’t think there was a rivalry between the sisters. I mean Visenya clearly was Not happy when Rhaenys was killed and Visenya did want her son Maegor to marry his niece, the granddaughter of her sister Rhaenys.
I don’t think Visenya was jealous. Everything described of her would point to her not being attracted to her brother, and just fulfilling a duty.
The book description of Rhaenys is actually quite the sweet and beautiful and a bit kinder than Visenya.

The way u say Visenya 😭😭
Aegon just can't handle my girl Visenya
But what if she love him as her brother but not a lover and have no choice but to be loyal to him because she married to him?
Just like Jacob, Rachel, and Leah from the Old Testament.
Visenya loved Rhaenys and mourned for her when she died. Rhaenys I think was the glue between siblings because Aegon and Visenya's relationship deteriorated after Rhaenys died.
Cersei hated the Targaryen’s but she was clearly a fan of their customs 👀

Like lol that is the most amusing stupid thing i have ever heard , no meagor was actully raise by visenya only who was tbh cruel vengeful inloving materalistoc proudful hyper arrogant powerhungary humorless high maintance motherless feeling women , aegon messed up there as he allowed mesgor to grow up woth visneya or top he didnt try to have any influemce on him , he threw his son to lions the moment he allowed visenya to get personal hold onto meagor
