Amber, as someone who was raised on a small farm, ELO’s “Fire On High” was one of the few songs that made me feel when I was riding one of my horses. It’s mainly an instrumental, but supporting the instrumental is a choir singing just a few words, as well as a bit of a surprise. Try to check it out at some point. 🖤

This version appeared on the "Flashback" box set. Jeff Lynne wrote he was glad he came across this version because he thought it was better than what they ultimately went with on "A New World Record." I don't agree with him, but hey, it's not my song.

For an interesting contrast, you should listen to the original version of this song, by The Move- the band the lead singer and drummer were in before ELO. That version has no strings and is just guitar, bass, and drums. It’s got a more raw rock feel to it (and lots of cowbell). And the last verse is sung by the amazing Roy Wood (the Move’s guitarist/multi-instrumentalist, co-lead vocalist and songwriter, who could play tons of different instruments and was a founding member of ELO- he was only on their first album and played all the strings on it, except violin, plus all the guitars and a bunch of reed and woodwind instruments.

The name of the song is Do Ya (not Don't Ya). It was written by Jeff Lynne and recorded by his former band The Move. Jeff resurrected it for E.L.O.'s great album A New World Record. It was later covered by Ace Frehley of Kiss. Speaking of The Move, check out their version of California Man and also the Cheap Trick cover version!!

One of my favorite group of all time. Nothing like cruising in the 70's, and 80's with ELO blaring from the radio. Jeff's voice is one of a kind, and brilliant. Electric Light Orchestra. He used a small orchestra in his band which sounded so good.

Both George Harrison's "I've Got My Mind Set On You" and Roy Orbison's "You Got It" were produced, arranged, and had backing vocals from Jeff Lynne himself. So if you were wondering why they both sounded like ELO songs it's because. in a way, they both Were ELO songs. So you've heard more ELO than you realize.

Magic isn't ELO, though. The only song on that soundtrack that was both ELO and ONJ is the title track, Xanadu. Magic was written and produced by ONJ's songwriter/producer, John Farrar. One side was all ONJ/Farrar, and the other side was all ELO, with the exception of Xanadu, which was ELO/ONJ.
