I've always had a soft spot for this train because I have family friends that live in Northwest Ohio and we would always drive out every summer (10 hours). I would always ask if we could take the train but we never did. The Fostoria station was actually pretty close to their house, so this train was still running it might have actually made sense to take the train.
God we need some sort of direct service or through coaches on the Pennsy mainline route to Chicago.

I loved catching this train. I’d walk down to Strafford station back when I was in high school….24…years...ago...oh no (millennial existential crisis intensifies)... Anyway it was fun to see a large passenger/freight train on a line that mostly saw septa silverliners. It's nice that we still have the Pennsylvanian, and it's fun to try and catch the east/west meet near Strasburg, but it's just not the same as The Three Rivers. I definitely miss it.

Amtrak is planning to launch a new Chicago to Pittsburgh route, via Fort Wayne, IN & Columbus, OH. Who knows maybe Amtrak will launch a NY to Chicago train via that route, along with rerouting the Capitol Limited on that route.

Amtrak is *planning* no such thing. There is a planning study for a new passenger rail service from Chicago to Pittsburgh via Fort Wayne and Columbus. However, it is just a planning study for now. The City of Fort Wayne is the lead agency for this study. It is just a STUDY for now. Amtrak provided a letter of support for the grant application to fund the study. As of now, Amtrak has not commited to operating this new route.
