The media used Beyoncé image to help market rihanna as the more relatable artist who is down to earth because Beyoncé came off as robotic and a perfecting. Beyoncé was the good girl and rihanna the bad girl. It’s sad that beyonce perfection for her craft is seen as a negative when talent is so low in the industry
I agree. They also don’t take into account that Beyoncé comes off as “so perfect” because she had to. When Destiny’s Child went through their line up change, all the blame went to Beyoncé. People were quick to label her an evil bloodsucking diva. She had to do damage control and overly prove herself as a sweet, southern girl that was completely different from her onstage persona. Now they use that very thing to say she’s “too perfect.”
talent isn't low. and the reasoning behind how beyoncé is viewed is because she's a black female. we're expected to work harder than most but also not too hard otherwise we're cold, aggressive, unrelatable. impossible standards. like how while riri was initially viewed as more likeable she was still put down for not being as skilled. perfection is a bunch of bs because none of it comes together. it's supposed to be unreachable. it's so annoying because while the mainstream is filled with so much incredible work and people. it would be so much more if we let more people shine and didn't push them to the bottom.

But bc Beyoncé broke into the biggest black female star of her generation after she dropped her debut "Dangerously in Love" in 2003 and was able to sustain her relevancy, success, and cultural dominance for 20 years, it triggered the Aaliyah stans who thought that she would be the biggest if she was still alive lol. Very well stated. But I wonder why Rita Ora failed. They tried that very same dynamic with her, marketing her as the next Rihanna. Well I know why. They tried to make Rita a carbon copy of Rihanna, while Rihanna was only an influence of Beyoncé. As you eloquently stated, Rihanna then came into her own, and found her own look, style and vision. Rita is very status quo, and is like every other pop girl of her era which is ok, but you gotta have the consistent hits to break out.

@Day Jayz has no parts in fenty beauty or Fenty skin etc ( that is solely rih & lv). Why would lv need Jayz $?? You might wanna google the deal and how it’s 50/50 with Rihanna and lv. Jayz owns 3% shares in Savagexfenty & he only invested after rih had already started it. Jayz isn’t even the majority owner of roc nation as it’s main owner is live nation ( micheal Rapino ) and liberty media ( John C Malone). I think y’all forget that Jayz left def jam in 2006 and rih was still there till 2014 when her contract ended. The only album rih did jointly ( roc nation and Rihanna’s westbury road ) jay leaked on tidal and fumbled her roll her. Y’all give Jayz way to much credit for Rihanna’s hard work!
@Day A whole 3% In sf and they only have that because Jay brown found investor’s for savagexfenty ( the year after Rihanna started it). That 3% was their part for finding $50m in investments. Rihanna signed up to music management under rn in 2010.. she was NOT always managed by them or under them. Rih did NOT cut a 360 deal and Rn has no parts in her deals outside of music. She has spoken on this several times. She wanted more freedom after leaving def jam and made sure ALL her deals outside of music are ran by her and her team only. Stop the lying!!!! Lv has public statements on how they approached rih ( she had just done a deal with mac) and lv literally poached her as she was about to work with mac on fenty beauty but she went with lv. Jz and jay brown has no parts in it! Nice try tho. You just lied.. show me Jayz or jay brown on Rihanna’s loud album ( Alex the kid, the ambassador, ester dean, the runners, stargaze etc all produced, ex producer not no Jayz or J brown), talk that talk ( ex producers are Danny d & TimBlacksmith), unapologetic ( again no Jayz or Jay brown) and this album is under labels def jam and Rihanna’s westbury road. Anti still not Jayz in the credits ( only jay brown) . Let’s get a few things stg … Jayz doesn’t even own the majority of roc nation and from reports co-owns shared in it worth about 5%. Rih is definitely my fave. She had a once in a lifetime opportunity and she wasted no time. Pumping out music consistently, topping the charts, going on tours, doing brand deals, building her image and her brands too... 16 years after her debut and she's the youngest self made billionaire. That's the most insane work ethic I've seen from any artist.
Well work ethic and Rihanna doesn't belong in the same sentence, she and her Savage x Fenty were recently fined because of the scamming and fraud that financially harmed its consumers since it launched.
I remember when If It's Loving That You Want came out and I thought 'she's copying Beyonce' lol at my young age but yeah they were definitely trying to market her as Beyonce. She would've had no career if she didn't branch out with Good Girl Gone Bad even though you can see they took some ideas from Fefe Dobson's style for that era. One thing I will say about Rihanna is she kept reinventing herself and she knew how to choose hits. She was able to appeal to a very wide audience and kept churning out hits.

Rihanna made it cause she was not afraid to experiment herself. Her style in music and fashion changed , and living in the black woman world , it kept us interested and talking . Rihanna influenced a lot of black women hairstyles, especially after 2007. I really enjoy how she wasn’t afraid to take risks, professionally.
Rihanna definitely had the backing of Beyoncé’s husband Jay-Z to help her. Because of the slight resemblance she was most easily compared to Beyoncé by her record label, as opposed to Teairra Marie and Rita Ora, so that’s who they decided to push. Jay-Z was over Def Jam when she was there and when he left he took her to Rocnation with him. The video shows that even in her Good Girl Gone Bad era they were still putting Beyoncé’s name on the covers of Rihanna’s CDs. They wanted to make her “their Beyoncé” just like Sony tried to make Mariah Carey “their Whitney Houston” back in the day. Not to mention all the collaborations Jay and his artist Kanye did with Rihanna to keep her name up there. Umbrella, Run the Town,… the list goes on. She definitely had the backing of Beyoncé’s husband to keep her career afloat. To this day, besides Beyoncé, no other female artist throws up the Roc quite as hard as Rihanna does.
Not to mention Rihanna’s former publicist recently came out & admitted that Rih & Jay was indeed romantically involved & he was told to lie about it being just a rumor for publicity…. No wonder Jay was originally trying to mold her into Bey’s image. Shady industry.
Beyoncé’s career has been a very interesting one, - I’ve always found that Beyonce name to always be attached to other female artists, in a attempt to ‘uplift’ the other. Which is something, she’s been critiqued through her entire career. But then again, she has been at the top for a v long time so I guess that’s what comes with the game.
But they wouldn’t do that if they didn’t see her as the standard deep down inside. They don’t use other artists that way because they don’t feel like it holds the same weight; they’d just never say it that way.

Folks can see "Smooth Criminal" or any video and the reality is from the plot of "Thriller" or that one, to all the choreography in those, let alone the others, they really show that he tirelessly perfected or tried to, his craft. It was about a message and being the ultimate messenger to deliver it. It's not quite the way I think "Geminis" do (2Pac, Prince, Kanye) but Virgos seem definitely in this altruistic way, not as much trying to do it with the edgier shadowy side of ourselves as humans. Virgos do come off pristine, and when they show flaws, folks come for them pretty hard, as if they showed this "holier than thou" vibe and now they are held to a higher standard to not have flaws. I think that it's about patterns in behaviors of people, that may or may not actually show up in Zodiac signs, but it does show up as patterns to me, like archetypes, it is philosophical to me, more than anything else. I think that sharing the best of ourselves is the way we all become interconnected, and Musicians/Artists probably know this the best. Beyonce's "Brown Skin" knowing she has children with a phenotype of her husband mingled with her more favored look, especially from some communities and culture, had a message to promote. Some argue that she banks on this message disingenuously, but I can't prove that. What will matter is that someone puts the message out there, for the balance against what Racism, Colorism do for damage psychologically to people. The famous study or "doll test" done in the 70s showed that Black girls chose a White doll over a Black one. They did that, revealing that these messages and lack of promotion really do embed and seep into one's brain that they are "less than." Important message. Virgo-Beyonce. "Man in the Mirror" from the lyrics, beat, intro, outro has to be one of Michael's biggest songs/hits. One of introspection, reflection, and how the process starts within each of us. His song sparked a lot of people to reignite what Ghandi said, about "being the change you want to see in the world." That is a message, not one to provoke (those have their value too) but one to share and know that all of us have our doubts, but looking within and trying to start with that accountability first, matters. Virgo-Michael Jackson. I see the patterns and like to check out the psychological profile of them as stars but even among my friends or strangers I encounter. I didn't realize it but I guess it's a branch called Physiological Astrology. There's a woman named Jennifer Freed, PHD, who authored a book called "Use Your Planets" and she goes into it more deeply than I ever would. I did it more for amusement, but not realizing that Zodiac signs can be used as a piece of a bigger puzzle, to who each of us are. It's like one more detail, in a bunch of them.

Rihanna truly is an icon. She did her thing.
@@angechrisman1694 it's my opinion first and foremost also legends are not forgotten to show you how much respect and honor rihanna reflects...her country goes out to made her one of their national heroes...as far as Beyonce goes i don't see that happening for America no hate. Take it or leave it i said what i said. I believe rihanna is a legend because she contribute alot in the industry multi talent. Beyonce is a icon because of her music style and performance but it comes to other areas that is not music she always gets alot of negative feedback compared to rihanna who every woman instantly fall in love with fenty right away. Good bye.
@@spicypeppy Selling make up and foundation doesn't make you a legend lol. It went from music and actual talent to but Rihanna can sell make up. Your whole argument is weak and didn't help Rihanna AT ALL
@@angechrisman1694 first of all I wasn't just talking about makeup. I was talking about her *clothing line* who Beyonce the singer has one as well. And i clearly remember when every woman pulled to rihanna clothing line; they instantly bashed Beyonce clothing line till this day saying her clothing line doesn't seem interesting and relatable like rihanna and also , clearly remember some particular fans said her clothing line lack creativity because it doesn't seem appealing.... Anyways I'm done with this argument and said what i said good bye.
Both great artist ❤ fingers crossed 🤞we get a new Rihanna album in 2023 🙏🏻
I’ve seen Rihanna live many times ❤️ her!!
Beyonce being Virgo is pretty perfectionist in nature, so they say. As for Piscean Rihanna, they seem to come off more in a way that may be less robotic due to emotional quality, so that down to earth, because she isn't chasing perfectionism or have the "show-pony" veneer that perhaps does matter to a Virgo typically.
This is just a fun take on Zodiac, it is just for amusement and nuance, to put their comparisons through a Zodiac lens in comment. That's all. Love.
I totally understand trust me i was thinking same thing earlier and no judgment cast but something about Virgos just pissed me with this they want to appear perfect to the point where you shouldn't see their flaws but its okay for them to criticise you which is not ok. Which explains why Beyonce sometimes appear as a victim during her time serve in destiny child she knew what she was doing always found some way to distract the crowd/fans not saying this out of hate because I'm a Beyonce fan more than riri although i love them both. But her past interviews when asked questions she answer so self absorbed but in a calm tone unlike rihanna past interviews till now she always talk so relatable like she just hit the spot and wins every women heart right away with a bold charisma. Bey songs sounds like it's not okay to be single but riri songs will make you feel there is nothing wrong in being single.
@@spicypeppy yeah, I think it's a psychological prison that Virgos put themselves into, wired perhaps, with a certain tradition, rectitude, but that there's more of a "freedom" experienced psychologically and spiritually, by Pisces-Rihanna.
@@wordlifefactory1656 well all the greatest artist have been Virgos. So are we staying that Michael Jackson being a Virgo is an issue because he also was a perfectionist
@@jjw1920 you hit it on the nail.
