Got one a few times in a pub included in the basement of a club in Aarhus, Denmark that unfortunately doesn't exist anymore. The bartenders were Irish. Two elderly gents. It was not just a pulling of a handle when pouring. They pumped it up to app. half a glas. Set it aside for a few minutes and then pumped again and let it settle again. As a paddy living in exile in the UK, my general opinion is that any Guinness from a chain (slug and lettuce, Wetherspoons, Youngs etc) is general going to be pretty poor. Being presumptive, but most people working there just want a few quid in their pocket (and there’s nothing wrong with that). However, that generally means they take fuck all pride in pouring the pint and don’t even know how to pour a pint of Guinness properly. When spending £6+ per pint you deserve better.

It really matter, the quality. I spent a semester abroad in London some 30 years ago, and I was in Highgate on a wander through the cemetery. Afterwards I had a mighty hunger and a thirst to match. I went to an establishment called The Angel Inn for lunch. I remember that pint because I recalled the care and courtesy with which the barkeep attended to the service. It wasn't a toil. There was genuine concentration at play. And after years of throwing down pitchers of pizza parlor lager, this was something of a revelation to my American eyes. It felt like genuine hospitality, if felt like being cared for in a certain way. As if she knew I'd been on a long urban hike and was alone in the strange city and far from home. That pint was not just refreshing, it was renewing, and it was sustaining. It's been 3 decades and it's a memory of that time as dear to me as kissing a pretty girl on Blackfriar's Bridge or reading Matthew Arnold to a collection of school children on Dover Beach.

The bubbles on the glass are caused by not cleaning them probably, a glass has to be beer cleaned, the bubbles on the glass is the co2 or in the case of Guinness, the nitrous sticking to grease and dirt on the glass, the bad taste will most likely be caused by that and if they can't clean a glass properly they probably aren't cleaning the lines and equipment that holds and delivers the beer

Near better off with the cans or the Nitrosurge.. at least it's reasonably priced and quite consistent quality. Too much of a pendulum swing in pubs nowadays.. even in a good pub, you can always get a shite barman.. you have to find out who can even pull a pint and just always go to them.. I think a big part of the problem is.. anyone is put behind a bar nowadays. Back years ago, a barman was a profession, you literally had to serve your time at it. My Uncle was a barman, probably began in the 40s or early 50s when he was maybe 14 or 15, worked at it all his life. Back in the old days you didn't just waltz in and start behind a bar, you started washing bottles and bottling in the cellar (in the days they rebottled the stout down below) and worked your way up. It was years before you were let behind the bar let alone pry a pump. Now any 17-18 year old is put behind a bar after five minutes.. without being showed anything.. and people are so pretentious and uppity these days they wouldn't even want to learn or take advice off anyone even if they were showed anything. Like these idiot bartenders that serve people a glass of ice cream and when they're pulled up on it they try to argue back and say "Guinness is a settling beer". Fuckin assholes.

A loooong time ago, this was the late 90's, my mate and I, both barmen at the time, went to London. We went into a pub near the hotel and caveats: this was the business district so we weren't expecting much. We order two pints of the black stuff and to our horror the young lady proceeded to pull a pint into a horrible standard stacker glass from a fking bitter tap, the ones with the long single throw, you know the sort. She pulled it right to the top and handed it over the bar. Fk no we said, you don't serve Guinness like that! She was taken aback, said she had never been told anything different. So we educated her. The pints were still shit, and tasted awful, but at least the head wasn't an inch and a half deep. Last time we ordered Guinness on our trip.

The standard of Guinness or ales etc & Food are truly awful unless you know of the few great traditional pubs that do their best for their customers, 90% of the bar’s restaurants etc are serving rubbish and at hugely inflated prices which is scandalous when getting charged £7 a drink. Obviously London & the south gets extra money on top of their wage compared to everywhere else but Edinburgh is just as expensive and we don’t get a London/south allowance. 🤷‍♂️✌️👍

Dumb London beer story. Dark Lord was my favourite beer when you could get it in Ireland, have not seen it in about 10 years. So a few years ago I was in London staying with my cousin and spent about 2 hours round trip to get to a market selling crafty beers and got my fill of Dark Lord. Delighted!. Until later that night I went to there local corner shop that was 2 minutes away and had Dark Lord for nearly half the price I paid for in the market!

Even in Ireland I'm only on Guinness last 4ish years and can safely say I've had more ok pints than amazing tons of shtick pints. Quality can even change as night goes on place gets busy pints get worse. I don't understand Guinness sometimes.

There's a few muppets serving Guinness in a 2/3 pint glass in Liverpool... the price? I'm sure it was over £4.50+ maybe even a £5er.

Watched this video last night and decided to go to the guinea grill for a pint... please DON’T BOTHER!!!! I don’t know if they’ve changed management because the pint I paid for hand on my heart is the WORST PINT IVE EVER HAD! It had no head, wasn’t creamy and tasted fizzy and bitter... glass was dirty as well. I love Guinness and it burns me how pubs deliver such terrible Guinness. Don’t sell it if that’s what you’re gonna turn out. I asked the lady who was serving if everything had been cleaned and she assured me it had been that very morning. She then continued to pour two more pints which at the first pour wasn’t developing any head... another lady (I’m guessing a manager) came out saw the two pints and even she shook her head. They said they were having a problem...I’d preferred if they’d told me this rather than serve me that horrible nasty excuse of a pint. I went outside and heard two guys behind me talking about their own dodgy Guinness they had just bought, spinning them around and looking at how sh%tw they were...even the scaffolder walking past looked at it funny. I have a photo as evidence if anyone from that pub cares or is even interested. This pub most certainly DOES NOT SELL DUBLIN LIKE GUINNESS. Whoever built a good reputation at this pub for amazing Guinness most certainly is not there now. I will never buy a Guinness from this pub ever again. Real shame as I was looking forward to a Dublin quality pint.. O’Neil’s in king cross serve a better pint than this. If you want a beautiful Guinness in london there’s an Irish pub 1mins walk away from Ladbroke Grove tube station, also does great pizza and has a pool table. The Guinness here is cold and creamy and left to settle. It’s not a fancy gastro pub BUT it always has brilliant QUALITY Guinness The girls behind the bar are all Irish and wouldn’t dare serve up something like what is being slapped out at the guinea. Ps don’t go to the coach and horses around the corner from the Guinea either I went in there after and u-turned immediately ...someone was complaining about the food... just being honest for £7 a pint. Na

The pints have actually gotten worse over the years , I’ve gone off Guinness cos it’s not consistent enough . On the Heineken now and in certain pubs it’s rotten . Clonsilla inn 🤢. People slag weatherspoons but at least the clean their lines and I’ve never , not once , had a bad pint in any spoons in Ireland or the UK. They’ve lovely ales

Heineken is only good if it's the version brewed in the Netherlands. The Heineken you buy in UK is brewed locally and very ordinary and the Heineken you buy in USA is the same. Heineken don't give a rat's about product quality. Do a side by side tasting and you will find that the Heineken in many other countries tastes nothing like the original.

These places should be called out. If you're serving any beer, it should be decent and drinkable. It's not like you know you're getting an inferior product and the price is adjusted accordingly, you're getting shite, for the same price or more than a great pint elsewhere. At the end of the day, if they don't improve, they'll go bump, like any business selling a crap product would!
