I don't really think Sega would have enough $$ to develop another console anytime soon, but i am really happy to see Sega live again with some new awesome game such as Bayonetta series, Yakuza series and all the awesome arcade.
Sega Dreamcast, Over the years you have given me so much, and asked for so little in return. Today is a special day of reflection for me. You symbolize my youth. 9-9-99.
The Dreamcast is the Jim Morrison (+ Doors) of videogames- looked pretty, oozes mysteriousness and understated cool and proved to have real no-nonsense substance as well, colourful, exceptionally innovative, created an outstanding breadth and depth of output in a very short amount of time, sometimes misunderstood , died young , still has fans whose passion has not dimmed a bit and has many new fans. With Jet Set Radio and arcade perfect conversions it really was like someone had opened the door.
The Dreamcast controller is obviously modeled after the 3d controller on the Saturn. I bought a Dreamcast in November 1999. Although a lot of people didn't buy a Dreamcast because of the upcoming PS2, there is still a loyal fanbase for the console. Although the system failed in the marketplace, it lives on in my heart. I still play my Dreamcast to this day.
I loved our Dreamcast! It didn't last very long before breaking, but I used to play Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 all the time. I miss raising all my evil Chao in the garden.
The Sega Saturn was an awesome machine. It completely pulled game systems out of the stone age and brought Game CDs/Dvds/ and now blue ray disk to new gaming consules. before sega was around most systems were still using cartridges such as the n64.
I'm still so pumped for the Dreamcast all these years later. Seeing videos like this make me go "RAAAGH!!" and bust the console out. It was so ahead of its time, the games are still amazing fun to play today and all those arcade classics man.. What about all those accessories - you can shoot the shit out of zombies on "House of the Dead" (and suffer "like G did"), you can get your mic out and talk to your Seaman (!) or "Get Bass" with the fishing rod! Yeeah! A well loved system indeed! XD
i remember when the dreamcast first came out in 1999 i wanted one so badly i had sleepless nights about it. and was phoning hotlines trying to win one cos i just wanted one THAT BAD!!! i was 12 at that time. no console has or ever will have that effect on me again, there was magic in that for me i will always remember dreamcast is alive in my house im currently geeting loads of games for it. keeping dreamcast alive forever!
It had all kinds of games! Believe me, I still use mine. There are racing games, flying games, puzzle games, shooting games... And they're all good. Sonic adventure 1&2, Aerowings 1&2, That one sonic game that resembled mario party, all those. It was (and is) a great console. :P
I still have a sega dreamcast, my powerstone, 3rd strike, MVC 1 & 2, RE2, typing of the dead, MDK2, Code Veronica, etc. Best gaming sytem there was and so sad that it ended, great times though.
I love my dreamcast I own Three , two pal and one japanese , Im playing blue stinger and illbleed at the moment , my two fave dreamcast games , I also own every other console out there at the moment but Im still getting loads of fun out of my dreamcast's just orderd Gunlord for it. Had alot of good times with my friends on the dreamcast , played so many fighting games with them and PSO was an amazing game my first online game for that matter.
This entire program is based on popular opinions that have no basis in fact. The Dreamcast did not fail. It was only intended to have a three year life span to improve Sega's brand. Sega was over 50 million in debt when the Dreamcast was released and the CEO knew it could not save the company.
This system was crazy, released only 3 years after the N64 and 3 years before the Gamecube? That is mind blowing thinking some if the Gamecube titles were found on the Dreamcast. I never owned one but oh boy, I wish I did.
If Sega announced a Dreamcast 2 i would buy it over the next Xbox any day. I loved my dreamcast, so many great games like Shenmue, Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Ready 2 Rumble, Power Stone 1 and 2, Quake 3, Radiant Silver Gun, House Of The Dead 2.........
2001, the year that Dreamcast was discontinued, really was the year that gaming finally lost a large portion of its innocence. (Rare did it to themselves in that year with Conker's Bad Fur Day, if successfully, but that's another story). Of course the Gamecube was launched in that year but even that remained on the backburner in most people's minds. The Dreamcast's stengths may have sadly proved to have been its weaknesses though-Sega's inventive, fizzy imaginations were too ahead of their time.
The 32X wasn't necessary at any time, but it would've sold more units if the saturn wasn't around the corner because sega rushed the launch. so i think the 32x failed because of the rushed launch of the saturn. And, man, never had such a great debate with someone on the internet about sega, thanks mate :'D
Online, they got Dreamcast off the shelves in 2002. But in Japan Dreamcast was on shelves until like 2006. But yeah you can only get them online, or in independent game stores.
used as a template by subsequent consoles generations. All of the first party Dreamcast games I've seen would still be an asset, visually and conceptually, to any of the current gen consoles. The Dreamcast really was/is an exciting console and the design of everything from the console to the peripherals was pleasing on the eye. Sega did extraordinary, inventive, fun things in an elegant Japanese way. Brasher companies peddling less brilliant ideas unfortunately got more sales.
I partially agree. Yes, many customers did loose their faith in sega after the Sega CD, 32X and especially the Saturn. They rushed the launch of the saturn and had no games avaiable at launch. Also, the saturn had nearly no advertisement campain and most of the really good games were left in japan. But I think that sega made no mistake after 9.9.99, they hat many great games at launch (and over the whole life span of the system), 400.000 pre-orders, a great marketing campain and online gaming.
The Dreamcast was waaaaaay ahead of its time. We as a society didnt know what to do with it. This was sooooo much better than what sony had to put out. AAAAAND it had online play. I would also like to add that i miss the OLD G4. The G4 about gaming, and gameplay. NOT about cops and ninja warrior.
The end of the Dreamcast, the dominance of the PS2, and the arrival of the Xbox all signaled the start of intense commercialization of the gaming industry and it hasn't looked back since.
In the end, the Dreamcast wasn't a failure in terms of its mark on history. It was like a grand artistic statement that may have cost millions of pounds/dollars but will be appreciated for many, many years to come. Looking at videos of it, or of a game like Jet Set Radio, is still like looking at a blueprint for the future, of fun possibilities. The gaming world seemed to become a bit less elegant and muddier after Sega's departure from the hardware race.
People may say that Saturn is a failure but it's a great console with awesome games just like the Dreamcast. Sega knows how to make quality stuff when it matters most
finally someone realized that, the 360 IS like the dreamcast's son the controller is like a straight up copy of the dreamcast's except more compact and its also shown how sega supports more the 360 than the other 2 consoles
Just got mine on Ebay last friday with all this stuff for $50 with shipping! Console w/ NEW RFU Cable, Power Cord 2 Controllers (1 Sega, 1 3rd Party) 2 Rumble Pack 1 3rd Party Memory 1 Sega VMU Games NBA 2K1 NFL 2K NFL 2K1 Sega Bass Fishing Virtua Tennis World Series Baseball 2K1 All works fantastic and is the most versitile system on the planet and can play so many old nes-snes genisis and other emulators.
significant amount of depth in games in a company with such (although brilliant) arcade leanings- and some people will have thought that the arcade style games on the PS1 were enough anyway. In the end, Sega seemed to prove some people's fears correct of Sega not being a long term choice any more when the plug was pulled on the Dreamcast only a couple of years down the line. In the meantime, though, Sega had a couple of glorious years inventing genres and implementing technology that would be
The Dreamcast had LOTS of good fighting games. Marvel Vs. Capcom 1 and 2, Street Fighter Third Strike, JoJo's Bizzare Adventure, Tech Romancer, Project Justice, Plasma Sword, Soul Calibur, Psychic Force 2012 man i can just go on with the list if i wanted to.
Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, & Sega Dreamcast were the Greatest Video Game Consoles of All Time
SEGA is the Greatest of All Time! Microsoft is the Greatest After and then Nintendo
and sega cd as well

I don't really think Sega would have enough $$ to develop another console anytime soon, but i am really happy to see Sega live again with some new awesome game such as Bayonetta series, Yakuza series and all the awesome arcade.
No the GameCube or the switch
Sega Dreamcast, Over the years you have given me so much, and asked for so little in return. Today is a special day of reflection for me. You symbolize my youth. 9-9-99.

Happy 10th Birthday, Dreamcast.
This is the console that changed gaming for me. I wish it would have gotten the success it deserved.
The Dreamcast is a very underrated system and I think it deserved more attention than what it got.
The Dreamcast controller is obviously modeled after the 3d controller on the Saturn.

PS2 was a beast. Best console ever.
The Sega Saturn was an awesome machine. It completely pulled game systems out of the stone age and brought Game CDs/Dvds/ and now blue ray disk to new gaming consules. before sega was around most systems were still using cartridges such as the n64.
Thank you man! Finally someone with reason and two people who gave me thumbs up!
This gaming consolse was way ahead of its time. RIP dreamcast.
G4 used to be so good showing shows like this. I miss it so much.

I didn't left Sega for a ps2, i was born in 1998 and my first console was a nintendo ds in 2007
This was a great console.. I loved it... It will be missed..
It had all kinds of games! Believe me, I still use mine. There are racing games, flying games, puzzle games, shooting games... And they're all good. Sonic adventure 1&2, Aerowings 1&2, That one sonic game that resembled mario party, all those. It was (and is) a great console. :P
most underrated system of all time. I emphatically stand behind that statement. I'm going to buy one soon.
I still have a sega dreamcast, my powerstone, 3rd strike, MVC 1 & 2, RE2, typing of the dead, MDK2, Code Veronica, etc. Best gaming sytem there was and so sad that it ended, great times though.
I still have my dreamcast set up right next to my 360 and PS3. I am also able to play it perfectly after almost 10 years.
im a nintendo fanboy but i respect sega for their fighting spirit, and their will to stay alive.... respect

SEGA in my heart Forever...
I had it, and still have it, but it stopped working 5 or 6 years ago.
:´( Still cry about it today!

I love my Dreamcast! So many great games:D
That cool FlashFireSix I hope you two dreamcast will not broke or not work anymore.
Yup, the saturn's best library literally consisted of side scrolling 2d shooters, and almost none of them did it to the US
I'd say this system was ahead of its time
The Dreamcast had LOTS of good fighting games. Marvel Vs. Capcom 1 and 2, Street Fighter Third Strike, JoJo's Bizzare Adventure, Tech Romancer, Project Justice, Plasma Sword, Soul Calibur, Psychic Force 2012 man i can just go on with the list if i wanted to.
Happy birthday dreamcast!!! best videogame 4 ever : )
