Probably the best time to buy it - after it had failed on the market, but before the "retro" boom would artificially inflate the price of older game hardware/games.

Dreamcast was my favorite system as a teen. 22 years after I traded it in for Xbox games. I finally own a Dreamcast again. I regretted selling all my old systems to funco land. Dreamcast was a head of its time. NFL, NHL and NBA 2k were all unbelievable at the time. It’s too bad the party only last 2 years. I wish Sega would give a go one more time. I always was a Sega kid. Master system, genesis, game gear, Saturn and Dreamcast. Loved them all.
DREAMCAST was so ahead of its time. Its a shame it didnt fly for everyone. I mean doing online gaming before people even knew what it was... Had some of the best memories and gaming experiences on their system
Saturn really didn't have to die as badly as it did. I play a lot of Japanese saturn games and I cant help but wonder what Sega of America was thinking by blocking some of these.
Sega continually makes awesome systems that they just fuck up because they have idiots for financial team. They could have been number 1 but money destroyed them.

Even then, they fucked him up to the point that he's nothing more than a joke. I'm still waiting for a new NiGHTS Into Dreams game, or a new Space Harrier game, etc.
Jafferson Llaban you don’t even know how much the Dreamcast was better than the competition. Now it doesn’t looks amazing, it’s a 20 years console after all. At the time it was a revolution
He's not talking about the hardware, he's talking about the actual company Sega. When they screwed up on the Saturn it was the nail on the coffin they lost a lot of gamers and developers as well. Dreamcast had a lot of great games all made by Sega but no one knew about it because no one cared anymore lol. I knew like 1 kid who had a Dreamcast at the time.
I think SEGA might not have failed SO hard if they stayed committed to Saturn right up until Dreamcast is released. Instead they were like "yeah Saturn is shit, roll it down", which was a self fulfilling prophecy because America and Europe subsidiaries didn't release the Japanese games that made the system moderately successful in Japan. Consumer confidence wasn't high because SEGA has not demonstrated sufficient commitment to their former products.
This was my first game console but at the time I didn't realize how cool it was because all my friends had Playstations or N64s and I didn't, typical kid stuff. My dad was super into tech back in the day though and realized how much better this console was, now I'm glad that he did. I also had way too many games to play because he'd download and burn 2 or 3 new games for me everyday at work and bring them home. Ah, times were so much simpler back then.
Thats awesome man. In remember when the dreamcast came and the neighbor would invite us over to play (my siblings and i were playstation kids) and pass the controllers around for nights playing virtua fighter and crazy taxi
Just imagined if you started with the Sega Saturn. Hardly anyone knew that existed in the 90s despite being a direct competitor to the ps1 and n64 in the mid 90s. You would think being a direct successor to the gensis would help, but Sega made so many mistakes with their add-ons and ditching the 32x too quickly, made them fall far from grace.
I remember waking into a video game/ board game store when I was a kid and seeing the Sega Dreamcast playing a football game on the in-store TV. It was surrounded by a bunch of 30-40 year olds and we were all amazed that it wasn't a real football game lol. This tiny clip just made me realize how skewed our perspectives were back then ha

Not to mention there was already social media in early 2000's Myspace was popular and also others like Bebo saw it's time in the spotlight. But nah, I think you're just one of those people that didn't even live in the 90's/early 2000's and just like to say "it was better back then" Lol I used dial up internet when I was a kid. It was definitely NOT better. And social media helps distribute way more information. These days I can find all sorts of info and guides on the internet for anything. There's literally a tutorial on RUclips for pretty much anything. I can download videos faster than I can watch them. On dial up I had to wait several hours to download a 1 minute clip and couldn't use the phone at the same time with the parents nagging about how we can't just unplug the family phone. Such awesome times. LMAO

I bought a Dreamcast back in 2005, (4 years after the console’s demise). I bought it mainly to reflect on SEGA’s efforts in their attempts at the console market. Now if I only had a SEGA SG-1000 to complete my SEGA console collection. Happy 60th Anniversary, SEGA!!
Probably the best time to buy it - after it had failed on the market, but before the "retro" boom would artificially inflate the price of older game hardware/games.
Same here. Sg 1000 equates to complete collection. Sadly i had to sell the lot in 2013....sigh....thank god for emulation.
