We experienced campground theft last June. We arrived at the campground we only left out a few things while we ran out to get groceries. We came back to find all of it gone. What they stole was our 2 camp chairs, an old stained and torn tablecloth, a small box of kindling we collected. And the most valuable thing was our new lantern. All together the value wasn’t even $50. We reported the theft to the park rangers. We had 2 more days at that campground and I just didn’t feel comfortable there anymore. From now on we will be making sure our belongings are marked with our ID and won’t be leaving anything of any value out while we aren’t on site.

We’ve camped for 40 years and have never had anything stolen but we, like Jennifer, always put things away if we leave the campsites and at night. It surprises us to drive thru a campground and see everything left out and not a soul around.

Last year at the campground we always stay at someone stole both of our lawn chairs during the night while we were sleeping. We were upset and we drove around the campground only to find them in a circle by a campfire. We stole them back and found out later after we told the owners of the campground that it was kids from a church youth group. They did get a talking to from their leaders. Since then we put anything that can be taken inside.

We just camped up at Leelanau State Park for three days and the small, biting flies, and the Asian ladybugs were terrible! We had to put tissue paper in the top and bottom of the screen in order for the ladybugs to not come into our trailer. We had to brush them off our clothes before we entered the trailer. We even built a fire, but that did not detour them. But, our rustic campsite right on Lake Michigan was beautiful!

I put my cargo trailer (built out as camper), in storage to go to a wedding. Got back and everything was locked up and seemed ok.
I had to get paperwork for some banking, only to find, all my personal paperwork was gone! I had it buried under stuff in a carryon suitcase (which was still there!). They took a coin collection and some other stuff.
Not sure if an ex bf or aquaintance tracked my phone and gps tracked my trailer? Seems personal taking paperwork but not my power tools.
    Disturbing.
This is getting worse nowadays 😢

Hi folks! Great channel!! I’m not sure if I head you correctly…Just wanted to reach out and clarify, Japanese beetle and ladybugs are not the same… the Japanese beetle has a pinkish pearl coat to its shell with a more shield shape to its shell. We need the common lady bugs ! Safe travels and best wishes!

      @sharonthehuman5954 19 дней назад +1

Actually they're known as Asian lady beetles, not Japanese beetles which are completely different looking than a ladybug. The Asian lady beetles are even considered invasive and typically the ones you say trying to come inside during the winter. There are good comparison pictures online showing the pattern difference between Asian lady beetles and real ladybugs but can't attach of course.

I have been saving and researching for years in order to purchase a class B RV. The prices doubled after Covid pandemic. In my opinion companies were price gouging and it’s finally caught up.

If you haven't considered it, you might want to look at some of the DIY builds that people resell. It's typically people that have done the work themself and gotten the camping/traveling bug out and are now ready to sell. They're often much more affordable than buying a class B from one of the major manufacturers. I saw an absolute genius layout unlike any RV company build for sale recently, especially if you only needed sleeping for 1.

@@sharonthehuman5954Beware of homebuilds. Many insurers won't insure them for more than the chassis value, if at all. Some will only insure from RVIA listed builders, or factory authorized upfitters. Others will accept a custom survey--by their surveyor.

Theft in RV camps are mostly due to homeless living off the grid and in the forest nearby. I actually saw homeless living in Flathead Lake. I also know that Oregon state and national parks have homeless living out of sigth. It is a shame, but one needs to be more vigilant and take precautions.

Great video. I am wondering 🤔 are most of the thefts in state or federal campgrounds? We have cameras on our Motorhome but have never experienced theft. Thankfully. Camping since 1998. I’m a retired Police Officer so I always lock things up. I like the idea of the sticker or sign saying the camper is monitored. Trail cam is very good idea. And always lock stuff. We have left our chairs out, but when we leave usually place them folded up against the Motorhome.
Our Experience: We did stay at a very high end campground (Travel Channel top 10 in the country). They had a bunch of kids (very young adults) that stayed at the campground with friends and they committed a little vandalism. They threw a bike in one of the pools and they may have taken a cooler full of beer. They were caught and the parents were called. Parents were out of the country and didnt know the kids had been there. They were made to get their rv and put out of the park.

Dave here and with regards to "Grizzly 399", don't automatically blame the car driver. The news report that I read said that the driver was not speeding (not issued any citations), it was a nightmare accident, and that specific animal had a habit of frequently staying in close proximity to roads. It is very sad that such a prolific mama bear was killed, but it appears that it was just an unfortunate traffic accident.

Do you really believe what the media says? First of all common sense should tell people to drive slower in areas where there are a lot of wildlife. I traveled to a lot of national parks and I especially go slower at night and early morning because of the wildlife. Even in the central states you need to beware for deers darting out. A bear does not dart out so this guy was obviously speeding or not very alert.

When you showed the view from your tree camera, my immediate thought was that picture isn’t clear enough to identify a person. Why are security cameras so fuzzy? Not much security there.

Thieves go to campsites and festivals to steal. Camping gear can be very expensive. I put almost everything away at night. Sleep with my window open and since I don’t sleep well away from home I’m like a guard dog that is half asleep.
My brother and BF’s sister have started to go camping with us and I tell them to put away their E-bikes but they think it’s ok. I have to drill to them it’s not. Don’t ruin your vacation with the potential stollen things. They don’t even have locks or alarms for their bikes so I took the initiative to buy a very long chain and chain all our e-bikes and e-scooters together. If someone came to grab one it would trigger mines to alarm. Ppl are so naive.

Some RVs like Storyteller are heavily insulated. All electric. And the tanks are at interior temperature. Also, no black tank. So freeze damage is much less likely. But the vast majority of RVs and mobile homes really are only to be used in 3 seasons.

Decades ago there were thefts at some popular tenting areas. Folks just pulled the tent pegs, threw the whole tent and contents into a pickup truck, and drove away. "Gone in 60 seconds" is old news.

All you can do is make it sure someone can’t just walk up and walk away with your stuff. Make it at least time consuming and a challenge. If they really want it they will take it. But don’t make it easy.
