Just to point out that this is the census for England and Wales. It's not Britain or the UK, TLDR. The Scottish census was not taken until 20 March 2022 and the results of it will not start to be released until 2023.
@Bercilak de hautdesert well that is just wrong though as roman Britain includes areas that are part of Scotland, up to the Antonine Wall. As well as the fact that Great Britain and Britain are now used interchangeably in common parlance. So the original comment was right.
Indeed. Not only that, the video interchanges "the UK", "Britain" and "England and Wales". Even if the "Roman name" nonsense were correct (it isn't since aside from anything else - that name being 1,500 years out of date for instance - as others point out, "Roman Britain" at various times _didn't_ include Wales and _did_ include parts of Southern Scotland), the video doesn't adhere to that anyway. So it's wrong either way.
*Major Changes from 2011 to 2021:* ● British identity: 92% to 90% ● Whiteness: 86% to 81% ● Christianity: 59.3% to 46.2% ● Irreligiousness: 25.2% to 37.2% ● Population: +3.5% ● Total households: +6.1% ● Deprived* Households: -10.2% ● Marriages: -2.2% *At least one household member is unemployed, or has few GCSEs, or has bad health, or lives in an overcrowded accomodation.
those 22.09% is calculated by dividing the Delta between 2021 vs 2011 absolute figures WITH the 2011 figures. while the 13.01 pctg points is just simply derived by deducting 59.3% with 46.2%. both just mathematically similar, it is just how it is delivered correctly with nuanced. But, I prefer the percentage points changes instead of delta percentage as suggested here. It is more reflective of getting demographic views of England and Wales. It is just easier to be understood. Delta percentage is usually used for Finance and Accountings such as Revenues,Costs, etc.
Slight correction: You said there's a 12 point decrease in those who don't follow any religion but it's a 12 point increase. This will be clear to anyone watching the video, of course, but not to people who're just listening.

@@dominikgadze4221 because the majority of the country isn't Christian (54%) hence the phrase "Christian minority". Similarly, the Tories had a "minority government" in 2017 when they commanded less than half of the house of commons.
As a someone who lived in the UK and moved back to Czechia while census was teking place in both countries it was so interesting to see what each of them wanted to know-the UK was puting so much focus to race, etnicity, religion... and Czechia was puting focus to number of people in households+details about them (how many meters is the flat you live in, what they use for heating...). It would be interesting to have some standardised questions for all countries that do census+every country could add some of their own so the results could be much more easily comparable across differend countries.

I really don't know why everyone is panicking about the Christian one. There've been hardly any Christians in the UK for decades. The only difference is that fewer people are bothering to pretend that because they got a christening, or went to the boyscouts, or go to Church at Christmas they are in some way religious. Most of the people who would call themselves Christian in the UK are probably less religious than your average American agnostic.

@@Pfyzer The term British is very misleading. The UK (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) consists of 4 countries. Three of them (England, Wales, Scotland) are on the island of Great Britain. The fourth one (Northern Ireland) is on the island of Ireland. For historical reasons, England & Wales fall under the same jurisdiction (legal system) as England incorporated Wales into its legal system nearly 500 years ago. Scotland has always had its own legal system, and Northern Ireland has a separate system too. So 3 censuses are conducted. The one being discussed here doesn't even cover the whole of the island of Great Britain.
I am currently a student at Birmingham City University and I can tell you from first hand experience that No1. Out of a class of 50 there is only 5 indigenous brits. No2. The majority of people on the course are foreigners who have attained a student visa. They are then able to bring there entire family here as "dependants" some of these people don't take the course seriously as they aren't for the course but an easy way to gain entry to the country.
It is no secret that universities like having students from abroad as they can charge them more to sit a course annually. However, anyone who comes here on a student visa has to provide proof they can provide for themselves financially whilst here and for their dependents too. Also, they don’t have recourse to public funds so don’t be thinking they’ve come here for an easy ride.
@@dylan120190 As a person who attended a University I can tell you that many students fail to attend University and instead do other jobs like being a waiter or working in a grocery store. In many cases, the University also fails to notify the authorities when the students fail to attend class, mostly because of their liberal attitudes. What ends up happening is that the students try to extend their student visa to ultimately gets a residence permit from a job. In Europe its even worse where students literally do not complete the course in 5 years after which they are given a permit to reside in the coutnry.
When it comes to the Veterans portion of the census, this was the first census that asked the question, are you a veteran? So there really isn't much detail they can give as there is nothing to compare it to.
If "Britain" is being used in its common usage sense of "synonymous with the UK" then _Britain_ doesn't have any census results - Scotland hasn't released any results yet. The video itself interchanges talking about "Britain" and "the UK" so I suspect this IS the meaning intended. If "Britain" is being used to mean "England and Wales only" then it's both incorrect and offensive.
I get what you mean, but England and Wales together make up 89% of the UK population, (Scotland is 8.2%, NI 2.8%). Given Scotland's demographic data is unlikely to be miles off that of England and Wales, the addition of Scottish data won't change much in terms of proportions, much less trends.
In 1961, London was 97% indigenous British and by 2021 only 36.8%. If this trend continues, in 30 years they'll make up a mere 6% or less. Incredible and sad to think in a 100 years the capital city of the UK went from almost 100% indigenous to almost 100% non-indigenous.
Back in the day, the British Empire was all about expanding its territory, conquering other places, and making lots of money. And guess what? They did it in a pretty tough and aggressive way. 🌍💰 Now, fast-forward to today. The United Kingdom (UK) needs to step up its game. Immigrants are knocking on the door, and it’s time to be welcoming. After all, the Brits have been enjoying the benefits of their colonial adventures for ages-think tea, fancy stuff, and all that jazz. So, it’s only fair to share a little, right? ☕🌏 Here’s the takeaway: Let’s look back at history, learn from it, and treat everyone with kindness. Maybe sprinkle a little empathy.
I always identify as the other-other ethnical group because I'm from Latin America... none of the others whites or blacks ethnicities really apply to me. I also have always thought this is a really weird question.
@Duhart Vader other white or other black are not the only options. You are from Latin America so what is your ethnic background are your from Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Guayana and what is your background are you of European, Indegenous, African background ? or are you mix of all ?
I'm surprised about the deprived household statistic, especially considering the Covid 19 pandemic and the economic problems everyone was experiencing in that year I would have thought that there would be more deprived households in 2021 than 2011. In fact, it makes very little sense. Perhaps the taboo around poverty and individualist ideology has made people too embarrassed to acknowledge their deprivation on census, or maybe the census was carried out poorly (by accident or perhaps on purpose).
Well though in ways broad, it's maybe not covering all aspects of deprivation, it doesn't really sound like it covers not being able to afford food or heating, which in this economy could be the case for a well-educated mentally and otherwise physically healthy person pulling around 20k, or someone in significant debt. I'd also say that I'm skeptical the census reaches people in trailer/caravan parks, people between homes/homeless, and people living in places they shouldn't illegally (in cramped conditions) not wishing to be booted out.
People better clutch onto their pearls because from the looks of things, they'll get stolen by an immigrant... Oh, sorry... I meant those doctors and lawyers that get pulled out of the water after their dinghy sank.
Regardless of race and religion(although they may be a key factor), national unity and a sense of belonging to the same group is primordial when it comes to create strong national states. A "diverse" nation where people belong to different groups and have no feelings of belonging to the same group is not a nation at all. I'm not saying that everyone has to be on the same page on everything, but at the very least share some core values. You cannot have group of white nationalists, a group of black supremacists and a group of Jihadists in the same room and expect them to get along, and I'm using these examples not because they are exceptional(in democracy), but because in the eventuality of a war or a crisis, extremists are always key players in social change. And more often than not, and i'm sorry to be brutally honest here but nation states and the idea of nationality are created through war not democracy. Either through people getting together under the same cause and sharing the same values and fighting another group(be either local or foreign) or through conquest(either being conquered or conquering another nation). So to sum it up, having a "diverse" nation is not ideal and can be really problematic in the long term, specially in times of crisis and upheaval
@@Arinussy I don't think everyone should be the same. But everyone being radically different is not good either. Societies are more stable with homogeneous groups. Otherness almost always brings conflict or contempt in the long term. What unifies societies are common interests, and if culture a says a and culture b says b, there is only conflict. Either culture a submits to b or viceversa. Of course they can always agree on C but that would imply the creation of culture C because it cannot be the values of either of the 2 previous cultures as they are diverse. To give you a quick example, in Britain Muslims and Christians and atheists live along each other, but Muslims cannot drink alcohol due to their religion, so even if Muslims were to be agreeable with most aspects of British culture, they cannot partake in one of their core traditions which is drinking culture in pubs, so they have their own places to do things that are allowed in their religion(such as smoking). That creates parallel societies as these are social spots where people form bonds and share common interests. Pub goers and shisha place goers will operate in two completely different social groups. And since there are barely if any common interests, conflict is more likely to happen
@@lostinthesupermarket Smoking might be allowed in Christianity but in Islam it’s pretty frowned upon as it is damaging over a long term. But is stability in a society good? If we all operated on the same viewpoint and the government had the same viewpoint, regardless of the morality of that viewpoint, is that good? What would inspire change? Would we be living back in the Victorian times or something? If we applied the lack of diversity in religions, viewpoints and so forth to a point in the past, we’d be stuck there.
@@Arinussy I think one should aim for stability while being conscious that instability could be a possibility. Instability means things are not in control and that can't be good. While it's true that instability can bring change and development it's also true that it can bring destruction or devolve societies. But stability with the right mind is far more productive than instability and strife. Most revolutions in history have been bloody and messy, and had mixed outcomes. While peaceful stable transitions had much better outcomes on average. You can even see that with the French Revolution, most republics that overthrew their monarchs had a much harder time developing their nations in comparison with countries that modified their constitutions to allow a peaceful transition into a parliamentary monarchy
The british empire engaged in territorial expansion, military conquests, and economic exploitation during its history. These actions have left a lasting impact on many countries. While acknowledging this historical context, it is essential for the United Kingdom to demonstrate compassion and hospitality towards immigrants. Census data is not a good thing. In WW2, 75% of the Jewish population of the Netherlands was killed by the Nazis. However, less than 25% of the French Jewish population was killed in the same time period. The difference was that the Netherlands had collected census data which the Nazis used to find the names and addresses of the country’s inhabitants.

Additional minor error: you refer to what you claim are the figures for homosexual people in marriages at one point in this video. While we have data on same sex marriage we aren't expecting the summary data on sexuality/gender demographics until March at the earliest. Since bisexual people can also enter into same sex marriages we don't really have enough information to do more than an order of magnitude estimate on the number of married people who identify as homosexual.

It makes perfect sense. LOL. In fact multiculturalism and "tolerance" make way less sense. In an ethno-state you live in a country with people who share your genes. There is enough genetic similarity for your genes to be best preserved and passed through breeding with someone similar to you and yet there is enough diversity for you to not suffer from certain blood-mixing deceases like the Habsburgs did for example. Weather you call it evolution, Darwinism or natural law it is scientifically proven that nature wants us to pass our genes and survive. Multiculturalism just deludes your genes over time.
@@cowboybeboop9420 My friend, I hate to break this to you, but in terms of genetics, it is more beneficial for you to have a diversity of genes. In fact, the majority of genetic disorders is due to not enough diversity in genes, what we may call the inbreeding. If you are talking about infectious diseases, sure. People from different geographic areas can transport different diseases. But that has been mitigated by the fact that people are moving anywhere all the time. Disease are getting increasingly universal, and less geographically contained. We can also thank vaccines for not have to worry about it that much. So I disagree with you my friend. 2:30 Alot of gaslighting here. It is a fact that identifying 'white' is going down. So why point out something irrelevant some right wing person says about cities eg White british vs other white.
What Farage said was a lie and since he is a prominent figure people are probably more inclined to believe whatever he says. And no where in this video was it left out that whites are decreasing in England. He LITERALLY said it was down to 81 from 86.
I hate the word 'multicultural' it is such a loose definition hence why it gets exploited by all sides of the political spectrum. I do find it interesting though that the 'multicultural indicators' used are fairly small when balanced against the long term structure of Britain yet we get so much 'diversity' rammed down our throats. Compared to a number of countries around the world Britain is fairly tolerant of others and their beliefs.
I hate multiculturalism, if you come to my country I expect you to assimilate the culture. You can bring food or music or whatever but all in all you should become an ordinary national. Like it happened until the mid-20th century.

@Bercilak de hautdesert well that is just wrong though as roman Britain includes areas that are part of Scotland, up to the Antonine Wall. As well as the fact that Great Britain and Britain are now used interchangeably in common parlance. So the original comment was right.
@Bercilak de hautdesert NO just completely wrong!!!!
It is no secret that universities like having students from abroad as they can charge them more to sit a course annually.

This kinda just falls back to the “if everyone was the same life would be a shitshow” kinda argument
