@@pulse3554 there are many things I can find that I disagree with, but I can still use the information she provide to educate myself. She works for government so she will be biased obviously. Still a lot to learn here.
@@yeahdude333333333 when did I imply that’s all I “got out” of this. I already know much of what she’s talking about this isn’t uncommon knowledge, maybe to Americans. What she said is a HUGE red flag. HUGE. It means she’s willing to lie about at least one major directive or even worse somehow be ignorant to it
I appreciate how Paine breaks down everything into digestible info chunks while linking it all together. Great lecture and interview. Could listen to her talk for many more hours.
I've just started to deep dive into geopolitics/history and Sarah Paine is my absolute favorite speaker on this topic. Her insights and way of explaining complex topics into concise, digestible bites while being entertaining is unmatched.
She forgot to mention that in 1965, when Pakistan invaded India, India was also suffering through a large famine in part because the Americans stopped any supply of international foodgrains to India. This is when the slogan "Jai Jawan Jai Kisan" given by the then Prime Minister of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri became popular. The slogan literally means "Glory to the soldier, glory to the farmer" symbolising the two struggles India was facing during the time.
30-some years I haven’t comprehended / remembered and thus been interested in history - until I heard this woman. There’s something miraculous about that 💃
I love Sarah Paine so much and her thoughts about grand strategy have helped me really galvanize my world view regarding maritime/land empires in the modern era. Last time you guys spoke I thought Dwarkesh could have really improved his questions however this episode I feel you have grown so much as an interviewer! Ty so much for publishing this content looking forward to more in the future.
I happened to listen to most of your podcast with Sarah C.M. Paine last night. Any happily this just showed up in my feed. Out of all the Commentators and think tanks I listen to, I trust what she says the most. But what do I know? Thank you, and thank you for having a great podcast...without all the sensationalism! I appreciate that
I loved her first long interview and i have seen it from beginning to end. I also always click on all those YT shorts of hers even though I have seen them all already and I know what she is going to say.
I love Sarah Paine, such a captivating and competent speaker. I was thinking about the first interview you did with her for the past few weeks now, rewatching the old one-and here we are. Couldn't wish for a better surprise.
Her comment about the bloodshed of the cold war makes me think of that "The Fallen" video that at least heavily implies how much better things got after the end of World War II. I wonder whether the numbers used for that video came from and how they reconcile with those that she's dug up. I'd be prepared to see it settle on either side, but it would be worthwhile to investigate.
Great show! I am a huge fan of your podcast and your guests! I learned about Sarah Paine through here, she's amazing! If I could LIKE a dozen times over I would. Many well wishes and prosperity
Very excited. She is an excellent communicator and clearly incredibly knowledgeable in her field. BUT her best trait by far is a single sentence she uses a lot. “I don’t know”. We all need to be more comfortable with that statement.
This is a very fair assessment of the relations between this complex geography. Professor Paine admits our (USA) misunderstood intentions through out this Cold War. And she’s right about the Cold War was fought out in smaller countries which was so horrific for the civilians who lived there. Let’s never go through this again.
Thank you for circling back to the Dr. Patel. Your interview with her is one of the most illuminating on geopolitics I've ever seen. She is a gifted and extremely knowledgeable presenter.
At 1:49+ is the most brilliant and concise remark by Sarah Paine in the entire video (it was all brilliant), when she essentially states (my paraphrase) that the US cannot change Russia or China and it’s going to be a long wait for Russia & China to change their evil way! In the meantime we need to protect ourselves AND our allies. That’s the realistic bottom line of what US foreign policy should be!
A couple of key inaccuracies: Mao never claimed the USSR took land larger than the US east of the Mississippi. The Dalai Lama fled to India years after the PLA entered Lhasa, not days before.
It occurs to me that the main ‘technological’ export from Europe to chime is institutions. The Chinese invented gunpowder and had cannons, maybe not steam power but they were able to make really big ships. You look at their modern institutions, and all of them borrow heavily from the west.
Im really glad there's more of ms Paine. She is one of those speakers who are very concise, clear and to-the-point. Very nice to listen to.
You mean Dr Paine.
Agreed there is something about Dr. Paine’s voice
Wonder if she’ll talk about how the U.S. ousted Imran Khan forcibly recently… as they always do to countries
WHAT lmao she actually thinks the U.S. went into Iraq to “impose democracy” WHAT

I'll watch every interview she does. She rocks.
I did a binge on everything I could find after seeing the first interview on this channel. Very smart person.

I agree one might ask why this woman is not on a Presidential Board on foreign policy or whatever the equivalent is!?
God damn this hits hard - never seen a more crisp and clear explainer on the entire 5 nation cold war axis.

Alright, literally every other RUclips video is irrelevant until I watch this entire trilogy.
So true! Even sleep is irrelevant
So great you had her back. She's awesome. And funny in the driest possible way.
This was a really amazing podcast. Ms Paine is thoughtful, articulate and crisp. Thank you Dwarkesh for inviting her.

Your nation is evil too, thousands of people murdered by bombs and so many unnecessary regime changes. Nobody looks at you as a hero.

From outside the US, the perspective is that it is the USA that is evil. Canadians FEAR our onetime "friend" and "ally".
What a gift 🥹
TY!
best guess i’ve seen on any podcast ever
Dr. Paine is one of those rare islands of calm, rational and dispassionate in an otherwise festering sea of idiocy.
Enlightening
There's no allies, only common interest. The balance of power keeps the peace never forget.
A couple of key inaccuracies:
Mao never claimed the USSR took land larger than the US east of the Mississippi.
The Dalai Lama fled to India years after the PLA entered Lhasa, not days before.
A match made in heaven!
Her talking on different topics should be a podcast in itself.
Trilogy? This should be a monthly series!
