바로 찾아보니 이렇게 있네요.."만"과 "밖에"의 차이점
Difference between "Only" and "Other than"
    1. 만 Only
    예문: 왜 하나만 샀어요?
Why did you only buy one?
    2. 밖에 Apart from, other than, no more than
(부정적표현으로만 사용한다 - Only used in negative sentences)
예문: 돈이 부족해서 한개 밖에 못 사요
As money is insufficient, I could not have bought more than one.

      정확하네요.
간단하게 '만'은 내가 선택한 것일 경우이고
'밖에'는 어쩔 수 없는 상황일 경우에 씁니다.

    • @shycocoaroungu648
      @shycocoaroungu648 4 года назад

      (단순히 only의 의미)

I can explain the korean thing!! “두 개만” can be literally translated to “only two” or “just two” in a general sense. But if you say “두개 밖에 없어” it means that outside of the two things, there is no more. This implies that there is not enough of the thing, or that there were more at one time, but now there is only two. It literally translates to “besides these two, there are none”. The phrases are superrrrr similar but have slightly different implications! I hope this makes sense😊

I'm a retired US immigration lawyer and "alien" used to be a neutral legal term for non-citizen. It is there throughout the law and US Permanent Resident Cards used to be called Alien Registration Cards. The term "alien" is still used in legal documents but unfortunately it has come to have a negative connotation so I suppose that is why the terminology was changed on the card.

    • @CarinaCoffee
      @CarinaCoffee 4 года назад

My aunt (German) lives in the US and her identification stuff all says "alien resident". It was really weird to me the first time she explained it (here in Germany you just get a residence permit card as a foreigner, the only English words on it are "residence permit" and in German we only use the word alien when it comes to extraterrestrial lifeforms), but than I remembered that the Americans also talk about "illegal aliens" and technically the definition for alien is (according to Merriam-Webster) (noun):
      1. a person of another family, race, or nation
      2. a foreign-born resident who has not been naturalized and is still a subject or citizen of a foreign country
      3. extraterrestrial
      4. exotic

    Ahaha, I love the video.
I don't know if you heard of the term Alien before while growing up in Canada, but I've heard it a few times here in Ottawa. Usually it means "dirty person" or "illegal person" when directed at someone, usually of different ethic background, spoke a different language other than English and French, or just looked out of place.
I assumed like you, that if you are to go to another country to live, you're considered a permanent resident like we grew up knowing.
Also, that grammar question! I bet it's still bugging him.
You had brought up the slurring in speech too, I totally get it! Growing up in Ottawa, I've heard multiple languages and you don't need to understand it but you'll get a hint of someone becoming lazy and slurring the words because it's usually their first language. It makes it hard to understand because it can change the whole meaning of the sentence.

I can relate to you Sarah with the term “alien” it’s a really common term here in the states, and mostly referred to the Hispanic community. My parents are from Mexico and we have been called this a couple of times while grocery shopping or just even speaking my native language.

Thanks for this type of video. It was refreshing to see you guys speaking in a different language and understanding each other. I usually speak to my friends in mixed korean and english so that can be a bit more confusing 😅😅 and also impressed that she can understand everything you said. Props to Sarah 👌🏻

The privilege of English speakers lol I realized that people who know english takes longer to learn the language of the country they are in when compared to somebody who doesn't because they can always just talk in english and there will be somebody who can understand so they get comfortable and don't care much about learning the local language. It can be a positive thing but negative too because it stops you from learning.

I am teaching myself Korean at the moment(online - and hellotalk). Sarah you can obviously understand what Kyuho is saying when he speaks Korean, which is so cool. Is it harder to speak or to understand, yet not be able to respond in Korean. When he speaks very quickly my mind is 🤯, i understand some words and could grasp the subject through that, but other than that, its a but hard. Thanks! love your videos

2hearts1seoul Sarah, you are doing way better than you think. I was so pleasantly surprised at the level of your understanding and comprehension. It must really help to live, to be surrounded by a language you are trying to learn. I was very impressed, but I also understood your humble view of your reluctance with speaking it on so public a forum as your youtube channel 😄👍🏻. Take your time, that’s okay. I’m sure you speak it lots. Very proud of you both
