This mix sounds fucking phenomenal.
I know, Machine Head fans, I know, The Blackening is amazing... I know the band would later go on to become a lot thrashier, have a lot more solos, make much longer songs... but Burn My Eyes is still to this day the album with their best song writing overall.

Chris Kontos the one and perfect drummer for this band period.
Love Chris but Dave was a beast and he put his stamp on the band's sounds far longer.

@@cfpzona Of course Dave was a beast but if I had to choose I would pick Chris Kontos for the gig. Far more entusiasm, more nerve and more HC vibe. I even prefer his sound.

Rob at 51 is still blistering the vocals and that's no small feat. A lot of metal singers simply can't perform at that level anymore when they get up there in age but he's a fierce as he ever was.

I don't think his vocals have the same power anymore, he's just good at getting the most out of them with as little effort as possible. He works smart, not hard.
@Rhys O'Brien after watching him do his Friday night jam session commemorating the 16th anniversary of the release of The Blackening, I'd have to agree. His tone was low and gravelly and noticeable when there are songs with higher note clean and hard vocals. Still, he's operating at about 75-80% capacity from his younger days and that ain't bad.
@@cfpzona yeah, mate. I agree, he's still killing it compared to most of his contemporaries, he's just getting older. There's no shame in it.
Chris Kontos is just amazing. What a drum sound, and so tight! Not to mention he seems like a really cool dude, super upbeat and chatty. I really hope he decides to continue with Machine Head. Logan too, his guitar sound is just ace.

That opening rhythm riff is still one of the coolest, grungiest most heavy awesome riffs ever written. Gives me stank face every time I hear it! 🙂

FINALLY!! been waiting for this for ages, thought it was going to be the last one they chose before recording it. More importantly they have got their high gain guitar sound back, really raw crunching sound reflective of the "burn my eyes" sound. Sounds exactly how I hoped.
