- I really enjoy digging through the recent sales history to see what cards are selling for. This helps me keep a pulse on the prices of cards that many of us collect at a price point that many of us can actually afford. Incredibly, players like Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Sandy Koufax, and Roberto Clemente, can be purchased for much less than $50. Affordable deals are always fun to look for, and I also take a peek at 10 HUGE purchases from the month of May. Let me know what you think the best deals from this past month are, of these cards from the 1960s.
If you're interested in submitting your favorite pickups from the month of May, to be included in the upcoming MidLife Community Show and Tell video, please use this link: forms.gle/SCR1fAq6UqNkoqJr5

Never a better time to start a world class collection of meaningful cards in the hobby. If you "don't like" these 40 cards....YOU Should. "Collect what you don't like" to Stay Alive in the hobby is the best advice I've ever given!
Totally agree, Mr. Petty.
I'm a regular on e-bay auctions. The 50's and 60's Topps have come down quite a bit, especially the OC ones that people seem to be trying to unload. However, pre-war are higher than ever and much harder to obtain. I'm probably one of the ones causing this since I'm always willing to bid high and overpay for something centered that I really want in pre-war. :-)
Yup... there are far more many 50s - 60s cards languishing on the market than pre-war. Supply and demand.... nuf 'ced.
I agree. I think that's a great observation.
Hi Graig, these are fun video's and it's cool that you can still get some great deals on vintage cards. Thank you for bringing these video's to us.
My pleasure. Glad you enjoyed it!!
I love the prices that you are showing. You can build a quality collection without breaking the bank, perfect for the “Everyday Card Collector” 😉. I prefer to follow the Petty method of collecting, off centered backs, collect what you don’t like and the more ice cream on the card the better!
Exactly. People don't have to be rich to collect vintage.
So happy to see those deals on the football cards that you found. Not so happy I missed out on them LOL🏈
You know I love vintage football!!
Hey! Prices continue to come back to earth - great for collectors! That 1960 Topps Koufax was an amazing deal though. Wowzers.
Hi Graig,
Thanks for your video of great deals on vintage cards. You continue to unearth such wonderful bargains and I look forward to seeing these videos in particular!
Have a fantastic weekend,
Peter
I agree. I can't believe that Koufax was that cheap.
Hi Graig,
Thanks for your continuing efforts to show us the real bargains in vintage cards! I love these kind of features and the great deals never end!
Have a fantastic weekend.
Best Wishes,
Peter
Thanks so much. Glad you enjoyed it.
My take-away: I need to be picking up more Mays cards to work on my Topps Mays run! Seems like a fantastic time to do so! 😊👊
Wow. Eerie comment, right?
@@MidLifeCards Yes, indeed. 😞
The 60 Koufax and Musial/Mays cards are such great deals. Another great compilation, dude!
Thanks dude!!
Thanks again for doing these always fun to see the bargains that others got. My mind blown again is the 1960 Hank Aaron all star in a 4 for under $40… wow I just bought the card recently and a grade lower for more than that, so guess I jumped the gun or props to that person for getting that deal with the auction.
Glad you liked it. Agree on the Aaron.
Thanks Graig! Lots of better and better cards getting cheaper! Regarding the moonshots, the Chamberlain in a 5 for $4000 is a great deal! Loved the Reggie 9!! Thanks for making this!
Someday I'll have a Wilt RC
The focus for a lot of collectors is more on modern and pre-war. A lot of the deals you showed are for players that are off the radar for new and younger collectors. I really like you highlighting these deals. If I am completely honest, there were only a few football on the list that I would consider buying at these prices. Not saying the others aren’t great deals, but I limit what I collect to what I can display and easily store in a few hobby boxes. This means I am always very selective with every purchase. Currently moving a lot out of my collection to keep everything manageable.
Thanks for all of your videos!!!
Well said. I agree.
Awesome video, great information, thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Gave a video like. Always enjoy these, thanks for sharing
Thanks so much.
Some of my best bargains cost more than $50. But for present purposes my favorite under-$50 HOF card from May didn't make your list, but I was the buyer: 1961 Topps Ernie Banks base card SGC 5.5, centered, for $44.
Great deal. Congrats.
Those moonshots were crazy 😳! Thanks for posting this video, Graig!
Thanks!!
Hi Graig, I like the information you put out on videos like this. I agree mid 50’s thru 70’s market is soft. Creating a buyers market. The National will be very interesting. Due to cost for dealers to set up they may not be able to price cards as cheap as the market currently is on this segment of vintage.
However- I feel Pre-war will remain strong. The economy in general should have a negative effect overall. I’ll be interested to see how it’s attended, and how much money is spent and on what.
Great video and have a great weekend !
I agree with you Don. Well said.
The 60 Koufax in the solid 5 is insane!!! Great video!
I agree.
I totally agree.
There's a 1957 Topps Don Drysdale rookie card I saw earlier this month sell for under $50. In an eBay auction, earlier this month. It was a SGC 4, but I think it, would have been a PSA 3 due to being MC (miscut). SGC just doesn't do qualifiers. But a sale, which I thought was worth mentioning. There are some absolute steals you found too. I would have bought the Koufax 1960 Topps for my Koufax player run. Also, the Musial/Mays...considering the assigned grade. Buyer got a really good deal.
I purchased one this month you'll see in the monthly pick up video hopefully!
@@royakard8536 Nice!
I can't believe how cheap Drysdale Rookies are.
I have a 55 Bowman Eddie Mathews and rookie Carlton Fisk and I can't give them away. Of course any card you go after goes for about 30% over comp
I hate when that happens.
As a set collector, i was wondering what commons are doing. Is there a way to tell if commons, in mass, are going up or down in a specific year. Without looking up each card. In 60's football, nice commons seem to be going up. There are great deals on stars, as youve shown. Thanks for your great research.
I mess with sets as well bud.. No big news here, but since nobody gives commons any respect.. Nice shape older cards will have to appreciate well and be harder to find in general. I've got my money at least saying it lol.
Good question. I haven't paid a ton of attention on commons so I'm not really sure what they're doing.
Incredible Deals all around. I feel the Sports Card Market as a whole is still down since 2022 due to Rent, Home Prices, Inflation, and interest rates etc., but can't stay down forever. Buying these types of deals are the way to go. If you are patient and pick up the best cards at these rock bottom prices, you are going to be able to make good investments and build up your Personal Collection.
Inflation is an issue. Totally agree.
I wish I would have seen the Yaz cards in this video, as I would have bought them.
Definitely some nice Yaz cards slip through the cracks each month.
I have some vintage cards but my collection has went from modern on card autographs more so lately.
Collect what you like. Can't go wrong.
As a modern collector (not ultra modern), these deals are comparable to a load of 80’s/90’s/00’s Rookie PSA 9 cards i buy all the time. For example, I recently bought a 1994 SP Marshall Faulk PSA 9 rookie for less than $50.
I think they all have one thing in common; Only collectors buy these cards. So the price doesn’t get driven up by flippers and there are no fluctuations because of FOMO. These are the cards that people buy and they get put in the collection, end of story. I actually look at these cards as what the whole hobby should be priced at, and alot of the higher end stuff (including ultra modern) is an inflated market.
That's a good point about collectors buying these.
My two cents…..
1. Great video…always insightful and enjoyable….
2. Lot of SGC cards in there….PSA is clearly preferred.
3. Certain cards come in and out of favor…’69 Fingers and ‘67 Jenkins seem to be out of favor for now…a good time to purchase these.
4. The card market will move with the outside world….whether bitcoin, stock market, wars etc.
5. The ‘69 Bench is iconic…spring training…1st series…1969…ads on the fence…and on a personal level, first set we collected….and I’m a Sox fan….
6. IMO for the high end prices you show….these are folks that made money elsewhere….bitcoin..meme stocks etc….and take some off the table…and put it into some cards to diversify….and for fun….these obviously have the further to fall in any sort of financial downturn.
Great comment. Great points!!
I am on a 1964 topps giant cards run, not really seeing those kind of deals, on the Yaz and Clemente were steals.
Good choice. They're super affordable for what you get.
The thing on the morgan rookie card is that it was an auction with multiple bidders and nobody could came up with $40 to take it!
Crazy how cheap it went.
Inflation, and the drastically increased prices of food, gas, utilities, housing and travel have all depleted the budgets of the common collector. Thus, these lower and mid-priced cards will see decreased values. Cards are not a necessity (well perhaps they are for many), but people's disposable income is not nearly what it was 5 years ago. The super-rare stuff will still hold its value, as inflation doesn't impact the wealthy class. But these types of cards (which are really quite common and easily attainable) simply can't hold their previous values in this economy.
Totally agree, and expect it to spiral even more. Might be a fine chance to aquire a few gems for your collection!
@@royakard8536 Concur! Excellent time to buy, but it we will likely see even lower prices in the coming weeks/months, as recession looms large. Happy Collecting!
No doubt that the economy is going to affect things like cards.
Even better deal when you buy raw oh and I know people are gonna scream about it but I love raw I have been collecting cards since before grading was a thing so I don't care about grading really because I don't buy and sell I'm a collector so if you like raw cars you can find great deals. And I know some people are scared of raw because they may not know how to know if it's real or not but I do been collecting for 30+ years so I love raw vintage never bought a fake card yet and never will knock on wood lol....
I like raw stuff...but it's tough to buy raw online.
As the time gets closer to Thanksgiving and Christmas you just watch.. Folks will be completely off the radar on cards trying to maintain a lifestyle. Stuff will continue to sell for less month by month until the year is over.
If so, I'll be buying!!
Most of the low prices are not PSA; mostly SGC. And that's probably because most collectors only collect PSA. And most of the low prices were also lower grades and 5 or less. And that's because so many collectors only collect PSA 6 or better. And many of these lower prces were not centered very well
It does seem like most of them are SGC. No doubt.
@@MidLifeCards I think one of the keys to vintage value over the next bunch of years will be how many new collectors and younger people get into collecting vintage. I think this is a complete unknown. Very sad that Willie Mays died; he was my favorite player and was so likeable with his big smile. I always thought he was the greatest all around player with power, hitting for average, speed and his gold gloves
I know there’s a little wiggle room with your ‘under $50’ concerning tax + shipping but when a card sells for $43 and there’s $15 shipping that feels like too much to me to call the card an under $50 deal. (‘60 Topps Koufax SGC 4)
No doubt that shipping and tax make some of these over $50.
What about these same cards in higher grades, like 7 and 8?
6-7 is still somewhat affordable unless they are perfectly centered. 8's_+ are high as a kite and the 7's pool for nice cards are either dried up, non existent or way overpriced. Prewar is mostly holding and trending up, IMHO. Everything else in vintage is currently bargain. Maybe we'll get back to 2017 pricing soon?
Shiney has nowhere to go but zero for 99% of it. Collectors are going to be taken to the cleaners on a stretcher and leave the hobby until Mosquitos start passing on the next pandemic.
Where do you see Jackie cards going?
@@rockcundiff1761 To the tippy top. To the moon. A great buy. Jackie was pretty good.
They would be more than $50, which is why they weren't featured here.
Dumb question and I’m probably showing my ass here…but why does the 69 topps Starr have a white border and the Unitas doesn’t? Related to series?
Good question. That set was printed in two series. The first series does NOT have a border. The second series DOES. The checklists also follow suit with a border in the second series only.
Clemente keeps falling, lol! Can the cards I don’t have yet fall?
I spent $320 on my Clemene 1971 Topps. Though it was a decent grade for the card, and there's demand for that card, as you know...
No...they only go up.
@@BringingTheHeat-VBC Ted Williams and Ty Cobb go down....
they don't have the flavor of Kaboom - pow chicken.
Hear the 71 futures market is still pretty volatile..
I'm shocked with how many Clemente cards are on the list.
No Jerry West😢
