Thanks so much for this video! You both captured some great shots as always. The Sony seems to have done a great job. The R7 did as well. I ordered my a6700 from B&H we will see how long it takes to get to me. Cheers.
Thank you! Opinions certainly vary on that second card slot. Some people say it’s a must have, and other folks, like me, never even put a card in it during the life of the camera. I would say if you value a second card slot that much then the a6700 is not for you.
In 25 years I’ve never had a card failure. Shooting multiple brands. If I’m shooting for myself I don’t much worry about it. I have cameras with dual card slots. But, most of the time it only has one card. If I was shoot weddings, once in a life time events that someone was paying for. Then yes, my main camera would have dual card slots.
@@bobdrawbaugh4207 I take my R7 on vacation. So losing photos would be a disaster. I would have to drive hours and pay hundreds for another hotel stay to the shoot them.
@@VacMaster1991 Well, you do have a point. I went to Alaska and only had one card in my camera. I took hundreds of photos. Would I have been disappointed had I lost them? Well, yes! But, I wouldn’t consider it a disaster. To be honest I didn’t give it a second thought.
@@PhilThach Glad to hear. Got my first shots of an Ash-throated flycatcher, a rarity in eastern MA last night. By 7pm the humidity was unbelievable, and bringing my camera up to take a shot caused my glasses to fog up! I'll miss summer but not the ridiculous rain and humidity from this year.
@@hstein27 Nice! Years ago I got a shot of an Ash-throated Flycatcher here in Chattanooga. I shared on Facebook where I found it. The next day there were twenty photographers and birders looking for that bird at my location. That is the only truly rare bird I've ever found.
Wow so amazing photos as always. I have the same setup and I struggle to get such a sharp photos as you do. Medium, far distance birds, birds in flight for example. I have high enough shutter speed (1250 sometimes 1600, 2000), ISO sometimes around 200 to 4000. My shots at the end of the day looks soft in most cases. Probably atmosphere, haze ? Dont know. Or maybe lack of experience. Will keep shooting... own the lens like 16 days, as a photographer I have still much to learn. 9M experience :D
ISO performance is about the same, the Sony is a little bit better with rolling shutter. All of the photos in this video were done with electronic shutter from both cameras so for large birds in flight, there’s not really any problem, hummingbirds, though you need to switch to mechanical on both cameras.
I haven't decided yet. If it was only wildlife photography I might be leaning slightly towards the R7 right now. If it were landscape work, I kind of prefer the Sony. But, it's really too early to tell.
As always, your photos are lovely, and I eagerly anticipate each new video. Thanks for sharing. From your settings, I see you often shoot at full zoom and wide open aperture. With a long telephoto, this can lead to a razor-thin depth of field. Do you lose many shots to blurry focus?
@@wellingtoncrescent2480 Thank you! That's the nice thing about these cheaper telephoto lenses, even wide-open they are stopped down when compared to the exotic and ultra-expensive 600 f/4 primes. But you are right, the depth of field is still very thin even at 6.3 or 7.1, and because of that it is critical to bag perfect focus. So to answer your question. Yes, I do lose many shots due to blurry focus. Shoot many, share few is my philosophy.
I feel like they are very similar but tomorrow I’m going to work on a video where I actually test and compare them while photographing a life-size northern cardinal statue.
I’m really liking the Sony a6700 over the Canon R7. The autofocus is far superior and I’m getting a much, much larger keeper rate with the Sony a6700. My Canon R7 just doesn’t seem to know what to focus on even if I tell it where to focus. I’ve made the adjustments that Duane Paton suggested, but the camera is still confused. The Sony a6700 immediately grabs focus on the bird, where ever it is.
Thank you very much. For this wonderful video. Please, I have a question about the R7 group frame camera. Is photography with this camera under low light good or not?
Thank you! You will see more noise at higher ISOs with a high resolution APSC camera than you will with a low resolution full frame camera. So, if you are comparing it to a low resolution full frame camera like an R6, the answer is no.
Nice shooting, we have quite a few of those hawks in Chicago. Saw one eating a pigeon for lunch. The pigeon population has declined quite a bit. Now we need for them to go after the rats.
The weather is not very nice but the pics are good. Maybe you and Heather can switch gear one day and provide your personal impressions on the pros and cons of the two systems.
Outstanding pictures!

Once again, great shots from both of you!

The dual card slots on the R7 are a must have. If one card goes bad I can't just book another trip and retake my shots. Nice video BTW

Hey Phil, what are you feeling about A6700 AF vs R7? (Tracking stickiness, subject detection…). Thanks!

You know what would fit also nicely in the R7 and A6700 comparison? A G9 Mk2 Panny and the 100-400 and/or 200mm 2.8 leica

@@PhilThach So the Canon 5D IV camera is the best
@@روائعالجنوب-ت3ض I don’t know if I’d say the 5D Mark four is best, but it should have better low light capabilities than an R7.
