German fanboys can say what they want but the majority of consumers want a quality product especially if they are spending close to $100k for it. No one wants to go back and forth to a dealership for issues with their vehicle and then to top it off with higher maintenance costs. I am in the business and I can tell you people hate having to repair their vehicle all the time. Everyone has busy lives with work and family, it is a big inconvenience.
7:55 Yes on this. It would require very little on their part to elevate the cabin further with just what you speak of. There are far better materials than whats currently there. Pick anything else. Personally id love to see that carbon ply type carbon fiber that's on the LC's door pannels, It looks like ply board but w/ carbon instead of wood. Polish that down or make it matt, or carve a texture on top. I mean I'm just a consumer coming up w/ that. Yes they can do better.
I have been thinking about how does one describe the LS500 driving experience to someone who has never driven this car? The runflat tires feel like you are driving down a gravel road when one is on a perfectly smooth city street. Lexus has changed the suspension on nearly every year since 2018-2023 to attempt to correct this. Test drive one at your local dealership today.
Disc golf is what it's generally coming into being officially called now. But, i absolutely love what Lexus has been doing lately. The LS has always been a dream car for me and i hope to own one one day. LS, LC, LFA, and IS 500 is my dream Lexus garage. I only just recently got a 2014 IS 250, because my 2010 civic was very unfortunately totaled by a guy driving a pickup who had been drinking early that morning. But, i never knew how smooth Lexus cars were until i drove this one at the dealer and now I'm all in on Lexus for my future cars.
(In my opinion at least) This is going to be the death of the reliable flagship luxury sedan. People are going for the ES over the LS, and there’s this one guy on YT who traded in his new LS for the new ES because of how similar they were in terms of features. It doesn’t matter if it’s so reliable sadly. This thing isn’t seeing an update imo. It really had to be well packaged and priced to do well. I’ve seen so much praise for the Genesis G90 through reviews and while it’s not going to be as reliable as people are going to say, it probably is the new LS feature-wise. But people are going to go for German sedans at this point. I’ve heard people say that they would never spend so much on a Korean car. In fact, I haven’t seen a single G90 in person yet. Uh oh, another dead sedan???? I see mostly the GV70, GV80 and G80 and G70. Having a peace of mind as a luxury “feature” (aka reliability), which imo is possibly the best luxury a car can have, isn’t so cool with luxury buyers anymore sadly. Thanks for reading my rant.
The ES is boring AF, outside and in. If they offer me one as a loaner I ask for an RX instead. I have the LS (F-Sport, always) and it's far and away the best car I have ever owned. Second was my GS (RIP...damn deer) Anyone who thinks they are anywhere similar to each other is looking at the exterior only since they made the grille on the ES so damn big and made it longer. The ES should have been sized between the IS and LS like a true 5-series and E-Class competitor. So if your prediction comes true it will be because Lexus wants to phase this car out like they did to the GS.
@@aross924 Honestly I forgot how good Lexus seats are. I sat in the new RX (an F-Sport model) recently and while the front seats were a bit tight since they are meant to hold you in place in turning, they were actually pretty soft. Even softer was the second row. I felt like I could just lounge back there. I don’t even think that the GLC’s seats were that plush and that’s one of the only Benzes you can buy in the US that’s actually built in Germany. The GLB is made in Mexico. I could be wrong about Lexus though, since I haven’t sat in other cars for a while.
@@bv202 the ES is indeed sized between the the IS and LS. It’s 10” longer than the IS, and 10” shorter than the LS. Agreed, the LS is on a different level than the ES. It weighs over 1,000 lbs more 🤯
@@bv202 imo only the new RX and NX are better than possibly all of the Lexus sedans interior-wise, but that’s only unless you pay for the higher trims as far as I’m aware. I sat in a higher trim new RX (F-Sport) and the center screen is bigger than it looks in videos and photos. There’s more detail in the interior in person than in online media as well. The materials are really nice too, it felt more… rigid and sturdy in my own words compared to a GLC. Feels really well built. It’s actually pretty nice, but this means you have to pay up to get what you want. The F-Sport I sat in costed almost 70k USD I think. The base model new RX felt like a glorified RAV4 with the small center screen when I sat in one recently. It’s only a bit better than a RAV4.
That B roll was so gorgeous. Currently my dream car. Less than 90k for looks, space, 412hp and 442 tq and it'll last the term of your note plus more is a bargain.

@@dboyq329 it’s a Turbo V6. All of the other generations of LS are much more reliable than this one. This one has actually been having problems in terms of reliability.
@@faheemabbas3965 And there it is, the whole reason why Lexus/Toyota doesn't have a modern engine lineup and are slow as hell to move on to turbos. Example, the Lexus IS laughably outdated with naturally aspirated V6 and V8 and the GS was cancelled because it had the same weak V6 for years and the GS-F didn't have a prayer of competing with any V8 from the Germans. This car needs a TT V8 to be competitive with the big boys of the segment.
@@naveenthemachine Totally delusional to think Lexus won't exist anymore. Man you're just completely in left field with that nonsense. Lexus ain't going no where. They're easily #2 or #3 in the luxury car market. There are many other brands to be worried about before Lexus as far as their existence. Infiniti being #1 in that regard.
I'm a major Toyota/Lexus fanboy. I even own a car dealer strictly sales and service Only Toyota/Lexus cars. Over the year Toyota disappointed me three wrong moves. 1) top of the line Lexus LS came with a V6 TT yet midrange model IS 500 got the V,8. LS sale figures arw down. 2) brought back the legendary Supra and they let BMW built the damn. Sales are also down and classic Supras shot up in value like crazy. 3) bring the Crown back to America without the Crown emblem. I hope that won't effects the sale figures. I hope Toyota/Lexus will learn.
@@naveenthemachine no relationship is perfect. But Toyota/Lexus is still one of the great company out there building great cars We also have two Pri one 683K and 440K miles. Both were Taxi. .
9:26 Again this is another area where they could EASILY upgrade the interior. The metallic bezzel around the central gauge should be swapped out for something diff and new, but still real. Easy upgrade. Then upgrade the screen behind it for higher res but keep the size of everything the same. What Kirk wants would cost to much but what i said would be a nice upgrade for minimal dollars. No engineering is needed for that. Part swap only.
The LFA-style digital cluster in the LS may be old but it still seems to be better than the new ones in the NX and RX, which just look like something from a Corolla.
Hey Kirk, how was the transmission when coming to a stop? I did not like my 2021 because I could never make a smooth stop. As I was about to come to a complete stop, the transmission would downshift and launch the car forward. It was almost embarrassing to have passengers. I would love to have another one if that issue got addressed. Thanks for the great review. The LS is an amazing car and even though I am a V8 guy, I never missed it.
the glossy black center console is what makes me love it more over the es 250 and 350 because it looks sleeker like the Mercedes glossy center console lol !!
12:50 Nothing against the G90 its beautiful and stunning. Im 40 and id never because i don't want to print like an old man. Id go LS all day long it looks far better in Fsport trim and does the business very well.
Hi Kirk, great review, keep it up! I have a 19 LS500 and think the AWD is responsible for the rather lame 0-60 time. A shame that Lexus cheaped out on the trim; no wood, black plastic, exterior sexier headlights like Zorro! in 18-20. Thanks!
Such a rare version of the LS 500. I think I have only seen two LS 500 F Sports on the road in the past year. I have heard that the ride conform and noise reduction is greatly improved by switching to “Non-run-flat tires” and if you have ever seen how thick the sidewalls on a run flat tire are, you will understand where the ride comfort improvement comes from….
On March 25th, In Germany, the government decided to accept the production of ICE vehicles after 2035. They changed the original ban on ICE by 2035. VW and BMW are concerned about increasing numbers of workers losing their jobs as car manufacturers shift due to EV production. They also conclude that decarbonization by 2035 would be difficult, according to IT Media Business Japan. Toyota should bring back the V8 DOHC 32-valve 4.0 Liter engine for the upcoming LS as an optional powertrain. BEVs are great, but no other powertrains are as smooth as the silky V8 engine🥰. Why not?
The LS500 is gorgeous, inside and out. The ride and quietness though is a step down from a 460 L. It's unfortunate that so many 460 buyers went to MB and Genesis when the 500 came out. I've only driven a 2018 LS500, but it was incredibly disappointing. The interior is also not as spacious.
I don't care what anyone says but Lexus's are gorgeous looking vehicles with the right amount of luxury you'd ever need and most importantly, be able to maintain.
My family just returned the lease on our 2019 LS500 and tbh it did not meet my expectations. I think Lexus really missed the mark on product planning bc to me this felt like a supped up GS (this model year was prior to the first significant update). It did not ride as soft and imperceptible as i would have liked…plus no headroom in the back. IMO, they should have kept the LS as luxurious as possible and reinvent the GS as a proper sports “4 door coupe” like an A7 or 8 series.
The all-wheel-drive is the culprit for the slower 0 to 60 times, you should have been prepped to say that and should have been aware of that when you made the video as part of your research to produce the video for your audience, which many of them are cargeeks like myself. Excellent video as always, I'm not complaining, but absolutely, those numbers are for the rear wheel drive...! Not the AWD.
The LS is undeniably compelling as a cosseting, pampering luxury car save for its unacceptably anonymous looks. At least in previous generations the exterior styling was stately, if not restrained. Stop trying to be sporty, LS! Lean into elegance and class
It should have the LC 500 v8, with an added turbo or two. The new LS is just "blah" to me. Sold my 2019 LC 500 last November. Loved the sound of the car and the driving experience... however, it should've had AWD and a moonroof. The stereo had ZERO bass, and the tech was too outdated.
F V8 = always entertaining hearing the thumpa whumpa sound. For highway people the V6TT has its place though. Some day will replace my GSF and LS430 with one sedan, but not yet, and LS500 will be at top to consider.
Are you sure this model does not have automatic window screens on the rear doors? It sure looks like it. Also, is it true that the rwd version rides better than awd?
I don't see how it is returning to greatness. The car is outdone by all the competition. Even the I6 S500 and 740i are faster. Forget competing with any turbo V8. The naturally aspirated V8 wouldn't be well suited to this car.
@@chuckkerber4735 Means nothing. The LS500 has been plagued with more problems than most other Lexus models. Ask any dealer mechanic and every other survey on the planet supports this. Hopkins, whatever that is, is an outlier.
I think it's cool that Lexus' flagship sedan shares an engine with a Toyota truck. Hard to imagine a Mercedes S-Class sharing an engine with a Unimog. 🤣
Love the exterior, looks amazing but that interior is just terrible. First off, they need to get rid of those Shrek ears over the instrument cluster. They need to bring back the physical Lexus clock and there's many other things. Personally the LS460 had a better interior design. Lexus needs to get their stuff together. Even the Genesis G90 has a better interior.
Hi, this Lexus LS500 is an awesome car I've watched a review of the LC500 5. L v8 engine just the exterior looks great I didn't like the interior but in this model, I liked the interior seats are supremely comfortable head clearance and legroom are great overall I liked this sedan except for the infotainment system Lexus didn't provide 369 camera
In my opinion, this 2023 flagship model really needs a complete makeover to remain competitive. Too much shared (look) with the junior platforms within the family. Yes, I love the brand and reliability, but a vehicle at the LS500 level should make a statement, while setting the standard for luxury (inside look/feel) and updated/better technology.
I will always treasure my 2018 LS, which is closing in on 13,000 miles as of this post, but now I'm looking into going small so, sadly, I'll have to sell her around 2024 to get a small 2025 car or - gasp - a small 2025 crossover 😄
I don't understand Lexus' packaging sometimes. You can't get massage seats on the F Sport. You can't get active stabilizer bars or 4-wheel steering on non-F-Sport. They need to breakdown the packages and make options more accessible.
How would you compare this to the similarly priced base trim G90 with starting msrp of $88400 (still has road preview adaptive suspension, but without air suspension and without e-supercharger)?
When you look at these things and how steadily solid they are for years, really the only reason to buy new is to have updated tech/infotainment. Something you can live without, but considering you're only saving a couple of dollars (since these don't depreciate) and the older systems were NOT great....
Although I agree w all the comments saying it should be a V8, unfortunately automakers have their hands kind of tied with the EPA / government pushing them for lower emissions.
So many omissions from Lexus. This's just crazy. No side shades in the rear seats? No backseat climate control. What? No 360 camera? I had this option on my rental Chrysler Pacifica Instrument control screen is a joke Oh good thing Lexus fixed the engine idle duhhh
I love Toyota & Lexus, however I feel like both brands are always two steps behind in technology compared to Mercedes, BMW and definitely Audi. I know both brands have the mindset that if it’s not broke don’t fix it, but that’s not good enough anymore. Both brands need to up the ante.

@@luptonpittman6520 so true.
360 camera is a big miss. But, completely agreed! This is a great bargain for what you get.
I have the ES. I wouldn’t consider this car. The ES is just an almost perfect car.
The ES is boring AF, outside and in. If they offer me one as a loaner I ask for an RX instead. I have the LS (F-Sport, always) and it's far and away the best car I have ever owned. Second was my GS (RIP...damn deer)
Anyone who thinks they are anywhere similar to each other is looking at the exterior only since they made the grille on the ES so damn big and made it longer.
I’ve gotten a few LS500’s as loan cars. I really dislike them, but not for the engine. I dislike them for the interior space. I go in and drop off my LS460L and get into an LS500 with almost no head room, a cramped sort of narrow feeling drivers seat, short windows and obviously the back seat it terribly small as well. I’ve been given an ES at times as a loan car and I really like the ES more. It’s a much more relaxed open feeling interior. I dunno, it’s definitely not a car I would want. Lexus I feel ruined the LS with this car.
I had a 1999 LS & 2006 LS , both were awesome cars. I am surprised they discontinued the V8 engine
I would guess the current V-6 engines massively outpower the V-8 from thsose years.
I work for a Lexus dealer in Texas and I love getting new LS500s in. The main complaint we get from customers is how expensive it is to fix. 🤷🏼♂️ $100k car = $$$$ repairs
Really.....? Never knew that about Lexus.
@@MercOne it won’t happen. Soon Lexus won’t even exist anymore. Their entire lineup including brand new redesigned models are duds
Infiniti being #1 in that regard.
underrated asl
If I weee buying an LS I would get the older generation
perfect validation on the LS500, which I am so fond of...
and I hope the latte was sugarless...
Well Toyota will keep disappointing everyone. Keep your Toyota but once it dies Prepare to say bye to Toyota and get a better brand
The 5.0 v8 would make it perfect, but that engine would make it perfect for LX as well.
Looks good!
the glossy black center console is what makes me love it more over the es 250 and 350 because it looks sleeker like the Mercedes glossy center console lol !!
12:50 Nothing against the G90 its beautiful and stunning. Im 40 and id never because i don't want to print like an old man. Id go LS all day long it looks far better in Fsport trim and does the business very well.
I find all Genesis wheels are ugly 🤮
LEXUS 👌🏻❤️👍🏻 THE PERFECTION IN REALITY
Hi Kirk, great review, keep it up! I have a 19 LS500 and think the AWD is responsible for the rather lame 0-60 time. A shame that Lexus cheaped out on the trim; no wood, black plastic, exterior sexier headlights like Zorro! in 18-20. Thanks!
Man that car Kirk is absolutely gorgeous!!
Why not?
Kirk Kreifels Friend keep up the great work🇺🇸🇺🇸💪💪😃😃👍👍👍
The LS500 is gorgeous, inside and out. The ride and quietness though is a step down from a 460 L. It's unfortunate that so many 460 buyers went to MB and Genesis when the 500 came out. I've only driven a 2018 LS500, but it was incredibly disappointing. The interior is also not as spacious.
Those are the reasons the buyers left. They messed up the winning formula.
Did you say 316HP? I thought it's 416HP.
It is.
yes its 416… coincidently same as the old ISF’s
Let me take you out for dinner…
I don't care what anyone says but Lexus's are gorgeous looking vehicles with the right amount of luxury you'd ever need and most importantly, be able to maintain.
My family just returned the lease on our 2019 LS500 and tbh it did not meet my expectations. I think Lexus really missed the mark on product planning bc to me this felt like a supped up GS (this model year was prior to the first significant update). It did not ride as soft and imperceptible as i would have liked…plus no headroom in the back. IMO, they should have kept the LS as luxurious as possible and reinvent the GS as a proper sports “4 door coupe” like an A7 or 8 series.
agree. see my comment on my 2007 LS 460.
Just spend more money and get LC500 assuming you dont need the back seats of course.. Way better car everywhere outside of tech
Love Lexus, but LS500 always lacked... something.... something... IT... something that would make people say: "Yea I know, but LS500...."
I like the front of this than the last design
The all-wheel-drive is the culprit for the slower 0 to 60 times, you should have been prepped to say that and should have been aware of that when you made the video as part of your research to produce the video for your audience, which many of them are cargeeks like myself. Excellent video as always, I'm not complaining, but absolutely, those numbers are for the rear wheel drive...! Not the AWD.
There’s not a bad angle to this sexy sedan. Beautiful… needs an update to the interior
they need to put this engine in the is350 already
a very good big luxury sedan but unfortunately only in his own class, the car can not really compete with the European cars or with the Genesis G90.
@KirkKreifels - great vid! Random question - what are those awesome sandals?
The issue with the exterior is that it looks like an ES and def doesn’t look like the same class as the S or 7 series.
The NX still has the dedicated knob for drive modes. The RZ and RX has it within the screen.
Kirk, Have they upgraded the rear seat headroom? I have seen 5'7" reviewers raise the alarm due to the swoopy design.
I don't see how it is returning to greatness. The car is outdone by all the competition. Even the I6 S500 and 740i are faster. Forget competing with any turbo V8. The naturally aspirated V8 wouldn't be well suited to this car.
Most reliable car on the planet.
Not even close.
@@MercOne 100% true.
@@chuckkerber4735 You’re saying it is? And proof of that?
@@MercOne Read the current Hopkin's long-term study. Just came out.
I prefer glossy looks and piano finish, It looks elegant. Thx
9:36 Yea i second that. I opted that on my LC and its meh. If i bought another LC or LS id leave it on the table.
i know that previous ML systems were notorious for hitting low end bass frequencies well
Love the exterior, looks amazing but that interior is just terrible. First off, they need to get rid of those Shrek ears over the instrument cluster. They need to bring back the physical Lexus clock and there's many other things. Personally the LS460 had a better interior design. Lexus needs to get their stuff together. Even the Genesis G90 has a better interior.
Nice deep-dive review!! Waaay too much car for me personally, but I love seeing it out and about.
Is this quieter and more comfortable then the LS430?
I really hate it when the RWD version of a car doesn't get the Torsen center differential that the AWD version would get.
That piano black has got to go, shame on you Lexus! Other than that it's a good update, great review!
0-100km/h test, was it in sport + the highest setting?
Lexus pursuit of perfection ❤
I don't understand Lexus' packaging sometimes. You can't get massage seats on the F Sport. You can't get active stabilizer bars or 4-wheel steering on non-F-Sport. They need to breakdown the packages and make options more accessible.
How would you compare this to the similarly priced base trim G90 with starting msrp of $88400 (still has road preview adaptive suspension, but without air suspension and without e-supercharger)?
When you look at these things and how steadily solid they are for years, really the only reason to buy new is to have updated tech/infotainment. Something you can live without, but considering you're only saving a couple of dollars (since these don't depreciate) and the older systems were NOT great....
looks great! marky mark levinson had me🤣
Great video
Excellent
A truly beautiful car, I think in a couple of years I'll replace my 2018 GS 350 F with an LS 500 F.
Best luxury car on 🌍. My dream car 💭. Got hit on this FanDuel parlay soon.
Hey Kirk, isn’t it 416 hp? You said 316.
Although I agree w all the comments saying it should be a V8, unfortunately automakers have their hands kind of tied with the EPA / government pushing them for lower emissions.
12:44 just a tip to not use a blinker when entering a roundabout unless youre leaving on the first exit
gorgeous car
So many omissions from Lexus. This's just crazy. No side shades in the rear seats? No backseat climate control. What?
No 360 camera? I had this option on my rental Chrysler Pacifica Instrument control screen is a joke Oh good thing Lexus fixed the engine idle duhhh
Which is why I don't see how it's a bargain. You're paying less and getting less, how is that a bargain?
I love Toyota & Lexus, however I feel like both brands are always two steps behind in technology compared to Mercedes, BMW and definitely Audi. I know both brands have the mindset that if it’s not broke don’t fix it, but that’s not good enough anymore. Both brands need to up the ante.
It’s not gonna happen 😂. They’re officially done as a brand. Genesis hyundai Kia Honda Acura are the new Toyota Lexus now
