- Poutou is a rice and coconut treat that has become hard to find. Best eaten straight from the steamer. We found this one at Pamplemousses market, get there early on a Sunday morning.

Thanks for watching
In the fifties poutou sellers used to go from home to home early morning to sell freshly baked poutous. That was my favorite breakfast with a hot cup of tea.
Wow, that is awesome
I am eating poutou as well. Cheers
nice
Poutou used to be my favorite snack for afternoon tea. Lucky you found a place which sells them.
It was luck, and a great treat

@@BryanDiscoversWorld pleasure! Welcome to Mauritius🙏
Poutou was invented by Madame Anne Marie de Poutou working as a chef in a Port Louis high class restaurant especially for Marie Antoinette.
Wow, thanks for the info, I'll add it to the blog, bryandiscoversworld.com/forbach/
When Marie Antoinette married Jean Baptiste and moved to Baie du Cap, I had no idea they visited posh restaurants in Port Louis.
Puttu (Malayalam: പുട്ട്; Tamil: புட்டு; Sinhala: පිට්ටු) (pronounced [ˈputtu]), alternatively spelled pittu (Tamil: பிட்டு), is a dish native to the South Indian states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and parts of Karnataka, as well as Northern Province in Sri Lanka. Puttu means "portioned" in Tamil and Malayalam. It is made of steamed cylinders of ground rice layered with coconut shavings, sometimes with a sweet or savory filling on the inside. Puttu is usually a breakfast dish served hot with either sweet side dishes such as palm sugar or banana, or savoury with chana masala, chutney, rasam, or meat curries.Puttu

Yo! FYI
It originates from South India
Called puttu...
@@chotaconhyedoss2657 You right on the button here. Our forefathers brought it here and like many things Mauritian we are only aware of this one method and as I stated above it also steamed with salt and eaten with curry. The sad thing in Mauritius is people of South Indian ancestry have been brainwashed into saying that Tamil is a religion. Why are they ashamed to say that they are Hindus? Recently I asked some of my nieces who is the greatest person born in Tamil Nadu speaking only Mayalam and Tamil in India last 500 yrs they didn’t know and I told them it’s Dr APJ Abdul Kalam,,India,s rocket scientist and ex president of India, the man who put India in the exclusive space exploration with the other big boys. They told me but he is a Muslim and I showed them a picture of Dr A.Kalam looking very much like Vadivel or Retnon or Samy .They just couldn’t grasp that being born a Tamil or of Tamil origin ,the person could be of any faith
Looks tasty. Is it a sweet treat? I heard something about rice and coconut. I like both.
Yes is is sweet and fragrant. Something we normally have in the afternoon with a cup of tea.
It is sweet, and very tasty
Super yummy & healthy snack cause it is steamed ! Not that sweet, it's perfect !
Can please share the location of this place?
Pamplemousses market at the main entrance
@@BryanDiscoversWorld Thank you. Will try to make it there w hen I visit in July.
What a load of rubbish .Poutou is South Indian and it’s been watered down in Mauritius.I have yet to eat Poutou as my South Indian friends slightly salty with a good curry in Mauritius
I have never tried salty poutou with curry
@@BryanDiscoversWorld Its standard in Sri Lanka amongst the Tamils .They use it similar to cooked rice and it has the same consistency as the Poutou which is essentially ground rice ,slightly salty in taste but very nice to eat with a vegetable thali which is an array of different vegetables cooked differently .Here in Mauritius the ground rice is steamed in round moles with added sugar and desiccated coconut
@@dominictaijah9265 thank, I would love to try it like that, with a good thali
Mauritius makes it better! The improved version!
That guy is so annoying.
Why you watch it then? 🙈
