My mother will be thrilled! She bought a tin poutou mould many years ago when she went to Mauritius on holiday but has never found a recipe for the soft poutou of old. The few poutou you can find today are tough and tasteless. Thank you so much.
That's great to hear! We hope that she will love our recipe and that it'll bring her good memories! Thanks for watching our videos! :)

Very nice recipe 👍🤩
Thank you, did you try it? 😊
If I do not have microwave safe muffin tray, can I use any different glass tray ? Will the cook time be same if I make it in a microwave cake tray pls ?
Hi there, if you are using a bigger mould or tray, the cook time need to be increased slightly as well. Maybe add 2 extra minutes and check the consistency. Hope this was helpful 😉
Wowwww watta creativity!! Nvr saw puttu being made in oven😄👍
Thank you so much, definitely the a try 😉
Hi! Can we use poutou maker (steamed) instead of microwave?
Hi there, yes you can! If the mix in too runny, add some more rice flour 😉
super very nice, stay connected
Yes, lets stay connected 😉
It was similar with Indian snack name PUTTU. We always make it for breakfast or tea time. 👍🙏🇲🇾
Yes, it is very similar to the Indian Puttu! 😉 Thanks for sharing.
Was just going to say the same. But puttu is steamed.
Hello, if I want to make a savoury version. Do I have to omit the sugar? And how much salt do I need to put?
Hi there, yes you can omit the sugar for a savoury version. The amount of salt depends on your taste. If you are having the poutou with curries etc, you do not even need to add any salt. Hope this was helpful 😉
very nice.
Thank you! Cheers!
Bonjour, merci pour cette recette. Quel le nom du groupe de la mucis car c'est une belle chanson ?
Je vous en prie 😉
Music Title: Jah Jah Bangs
Singer: Quincas Moreira
Hello, can I use rice flour, and can I use my idli pot to cook it, thank you.
Yes, you can also use ready made Rice Flour for the recipe. There are more details in the video description ;)
@@TheFoodiesAvenue But I read they add cornstarch to it which means it isn't 100 percent rice. Of course, we're after the starch but might react differently when cooking.
Ou pe fer moi gagne faim astere😋😋😋👍👍👍🙏🇺🇲🇲🇺
😊
Good
Thank you so much!
Thanks for the recipe. Could i use an electric oven instead of a microwave?
Its our pleasure Marjorie 😊 if you don't wanna use a microwave. I will suggest you so steam it (bain marrée) as you will get a better result than in the oven 😉
@@TheFoodiesAvenue Thanks for your suggestion and keep it up!
@@marjoriea2404 Thank you Marjorie 😊
@@TheFoodiesAvenue for how many mins do we need to steam it (bain marrëe) ??
@@jeenny7885 Hi Jeenny, steam the poutou for at least 15 minutes 😉
Can we make it in the poutou mould?
Yes, absolutely! This recipe is a simplified version for those who don't own a poutou mould and wants a quick recipe. You can use the mix to steam it the traditional way for sure 😉
Can you used ground rice?
Yes you can. Instead of 90g of Rice, use 120g of ready made ground rice / rice flour in the recipe 😉
Please specify at what setting medium or high
I make it very often. It's my traditional dish with chicken curry
Thank you for sharing 😊
Hello Shobha. I'm making this tomorrow. I wonder if I can add food colors and flavors to serve as a delight.
Sometimes I make it differently. I layer it with cooked minced meat garlic ginger greenchillies and pepper. Try it this way please. I am sure u would love it Of course u can add food colours to make it attractive .
@@shobhavijay6000 Much appreciated. Great idea. 🤗
Thank u Stay blessed
Do we need to soak the rice before grinding?
No, the rice need to be dry when grinding 😉
Bonjour, est ce que c'est possible d'utiliser un four traditionnel a gaz svp ? Merci.
Bonjour Richard, vous pouvez cuire au bain marie a la valeur. Si vous utiliser un four, ajoute un peu d'eau en desou.
@@TheFoodiesAvenue Merci cordialement
Delicious 😋 mouth watering dear friend stay connected with me
I have been dying to eat some toutou for a long time.
Always thought poutou could only be prepared by the NASA( yea the Aeronautics)
Now I know it can be cooked just like that.
Now I wish to eat Nan farata which was very popular during Ramadan in the 1970s.
There is always a simpler way to make a recipe ;) Thank you for your comment!
Is there any other way to cook it without microwave?
You can also steam it for about 20 minutes 😉
👍🇮🇳
Yaya mauritius is the best 🤣💞💞💞👍👍😋😋
so yummy in the philippines we also have this rice cake and we also called it “puto” 🇵🇭
Hi have you used microwave for the five minutes
Bonjour puis-je le faire sans micro ondes ?
Hi Catherine, yes you can also steam it. Please follow the recipe link in description for more details 😉
Remind me of my school days, used to buy them as snacks..will surely try it..thanks 🌺👍🏼🇧🇪
Our pleasure 😊 Yes, let us know how it goes when you try the recipe!
Do you have recette gato zoreil
Unfortunately we don't have a gateau zoreil recipe, but will consider making a video 😉 thank you for the suggestion 😉
hi where can we buy the mould in Mauritius thanks
Hi Precilla, you can use any silicone moulds. They can be found in shops like Hassamal or even in some supermarkets 😉
@@TheFoodiesAvenue thanks
It necessary to put the coconut
Can we cook in in oven
You can steam au bain marie on the stove. Im not sure about cooking it in the oven though. I believe the poutou will become too dry. Hope this was helpful! 😉
Thanks for the advice
Helo can u give ur measurement in cups plzz🙂
can i cook in microwave?
It was a microwave
is there an alternative to microwaving? not a fan of those ovens.
You can also steam for about 20 minutes. However, you might need to find a suitable mould for steaming ;)
Just put it in a plate and steam. Cut to desired shape. You can make this savoury too. Instead of milk add warm water to which turmeric is added. But roast the rice flour nicely for both sweet and savory. This is our South Indian breakfast puttu .
Thanks for sharing! 😉
@@abbyiyer2011 😍😍 I been to India.. such beauty.. such richness.
And yes, thanksfor the absolutely great tips.
Malaysian version with pandan and palm sugar seems much better nah?
Cook 5mins in what? Microwave?
Yes in a Microwave.
How to cook? 180deg?
Hi there! Microwave on high for 5 minutes 😉
Is it di riz ration
We used 'Jasmine rice' for this recipe as it gives a softer texture. If you are using du riz ration, I would recommend to let it soak in water for at least 30 minutes before blending it as it has a harder outer shell 😉 let me know who it goes if you try, cheers!
Can I use basmati rice?
@@yashvinbeedasy358 Yes you can use Basmati rice as well. However, you might wanna add an extra tablespoon of milk as Basmati Rice usually need more moisture and cooking time to get soft. Let us know how it goes 😉
@@TheFoodiesAvenue Appreciate the tip here. 🤗
En français traduction svp merci 🙏
🇲🇺
U didn't mention temperature
Cook the poutou at the highest temperature of your Microwave 😉
