    My mother will be thrilled! She bought a tin poutou mould many years ago when she went to Mauritius on holiday but has never found a recipe for the soft poutou of old. The few poutou you can find today are tough and tasteless. Thank you so much.

    If I do not have microwave safe muffin tray, can I use any different glass tray ? Will the cook time be same if I make it in a microwave cake tray pls ?

      Hi there, if you are using a bigger mould or tray, the cook time need to be increased slightly as well. Maybe add 2 extra minutes and check the consistency. Hope this was helpful 😉

    Hello, if I want to make a savoury version. Do I have to omit the sugar? And how much salt do I need to put?

      Hi there, yes you can omit the sugar for a savoury version. The amount of salt depends on your taste. If you are having the poutou with curries etc, you do not even need to add any salt. Hope this was helpful 😉

      Yes, you can also use ready made Rice Flour for the recipe. There are more details in the video description ;)

      @@TheFoodiesAvenue But I read they add cornstarch to it which means it isn't 100 percent rice. Of course, we're after the starch but might react differently when cooking.

      Yes, absolutely! This recipe is a simplified version for those who don't own a poutou mould and wants a quick recipe. You can use the mix to steam it the traditional way for sure 😉

      Yes you can. Instead of 90g of Rice, use 120g of ready made ground rice / rice flour in the recipe 😉

      Sometimes I make it differently. I layer it with cooked minced meat garlic ginger greenchillies and pepper. Try it this way please. I am sure u would love it Of course u can add food colours to make it attractive .

    I have been dying to eat some toutou for a long time.
    Always thought poutou could only be prepared by the NASA( yea the Aeronautics)
    Now I know it can be cooked just like that.
    Now I wish to eat Nan farata which was very popular during Ramadan in the 1970s.

      You can steam au bain marie on the stove. Im not sure about cooking it in the oven though. I believe the poutou will become too dry. Hope this was helpful! 😉

      You can also steam for about 20 minutes. However, you might need to find a suitable mould for steaming ;)

      Just put it in a plate and steam. Cut to desired shape. You can make this savoury too. Instead of milk add warm water to which turmeric is added. But roast the rice flour nicely for both sweet and savory. This is our South Indian breakfast puttu .

      We used 'Jasmine rice' for this recipe as it gives a softer texture. If you are using du riz ration, I would recommend to let it soak in water for at least 30 minutes before blending it as it has a harder outer shell 😉 let me know who it goes if you try, cheers!

      @@yashvinbeedasy358 Yes you can use Basmati rice as well. However, you might wanna add an extra tablespoon of milk as Basmati Rice usually need more moisture and cooking time to get soft. Let us know how it goes 😉
