    Thank you! I have two of these Trainline GP9m's that I have been wanting to convert to DCC. I'm modelling in the era of the 1950's so I swapped out the shells with Athearn high nose shells ($1 dollar each from a trainshow). The chassis needed a bit of modifying but the result is stunning, nice smooth runners that look like athearns with some extra details added :)

      I hope I didn't make it look too complicated. Just wanted to highlight everything I encountered.

      @@ScottRails No, very helpful. I was wondering how I would fit the decoder in with LEDs but you have solved all my wonderings!

    Really enjoy the thought process behind all these changes. Nothing is ever simply plug and play, so 'I wonder..' should always be part of the process!

    Great install dave! They really aren't complicated once you understand it. Looking forward to the other installs!!

    Good job! I have forgotten how small a low hood gp9 is. You might think about putting some black tape in the cab. You really don't see the cab light in the daytime and crews normally won't have them on at night unless they need to find something. You don't drive your car at night with the cab light on. I just bought some new Bachmann passenger cars. The lights are way too bright. Maybe I will grow mini tomato plants inside. Keep up the good work!

    • @ScottRails
      @ScottRails  4 месяца назад +1

      I do agree they are unrealistically bright, but I kind of like them.... for now. I should have maybe put the more yellowish leds in there. I forgot I have them.
      And yes, it's pretty tight in there.

    The Walthers Trainline GP9M has been around a LONG time, going back to the days when the Cox Trains line was available back in the 1970's.

      Glad you like the decoders there’s lots of programming options so you can really get some slow movement.
      The bottom end for my locomotives because I have ditch lights on the front and the back would be a T6 because the ditch lights alternate so I need individual controls.
      On Canadian locomotives you should be able to put the two ditch lights on the front on one function and the two ditch lights on the back on the other if they have front and rear ditch

    • @canadianlocomotivelogistics
      @canadianlocomotivelogistics 4 месяца назад +1

      And while you have the locomotive on the bench, add some KD couplers

    • @ScottRails
      @ScottRails  4 месяца назад +1

      @@canadianlocomotivelogistics I was reading the instructions for the decoder functions and this decoder might actually have the option for flashing ditch lights, but possible only front or back. Not both flashing.

    • @canadianlocomotivelogistics
      @canadianlocomotivelogistics 4 месяца назад +1

      @@ScottRails yeah there’s an option for flashing so you have to set one bulb to flashing a, and the other one is flashing B, otherwise they’re both flashing at the same time, you want them to alternate

    Great video Dave but I don't think I ever heard a banjo, guitar, and saxophone at the same time, odd music at the end. Of course, the saxophone could have been a clarinet.

    What CV’s did you change, and change them to for the start and stop. I like the speed you have on there. Thanks!

    • @ScottRails
      @ScottRails  4 месяца назад +2

      Not sure of the CV numbers to be honest. On my MRC Prodigy Express, I just cycle through the programing options. So, SV =2, Acc=50, dec=30, TV=200. Hope that helps.

      @@ScottRails Ah, I’m using jmri, I’ll have to keep playing with the steps. The train I was working on before the 7 tornados decided to rip up northwest Arkansas, I added ditch lights to it. Had some 3D printed one I added the micro-leds to and drilled out everything then put them in place. A lot easier than I thought it was going to be.

    • @ScottRails
      @ScottRails  4 месяца назад +2

      @@aaronl_trains_and_planes I think I'll make a bunch of ditch lights with leds at the same time, then randomly install them when I add decoders.

    I have an idea on how to get power from a steam loco to a tender, or vise versa. solder wires from the loco to a couple of rail joiners and glue them under the floor of the cab. then solder wire from the tender to a short piece of track. they can then be easily unplugged when needed. What do you think?

    • @ScottRails
      @ScottRails  4 месяца назад

      Not a bad idea. Or I could just use a small connector and plug.

  • @Mike__B
    @Mike__B 4 месяца назад

    So is there any reason you decided on this decoder over other non-sound decoders? I loved the bit about "I put that there, because no one else uses green kapton tape" then later on "Don't buy green tape, it's junk"

    • @ScottRails
      @ScottRails  4 месяца назад

      It was a great price and had good recommendations. I would normally buy Digitrax but there seems to be a national shortage right now.
