Hey thanks. It was a bit of a blow to have to bail on that one but under the circs it was the right thing to do. Lesson learned about the energy requirements of constant up + down and then getting too cold. Thanks for watching!
wow! weird to see you start in my home village, lol . but absolutely right call, no apologies needed there, you were getting cold, any more and hypothermia kicks in, nope, call it , get warm go home, always another day of riding, even so impressed in yr disatances! as someone still new to cycling, its an inspiration, just wish i didnt live on bloody dartmoor, hills , hills hills! ATB WJ
Dartmoor's fantastic! You're so lucky! :) I used to live not too far away from the climb up from Dunsford to Doccombe - what a classic. Thanks for the comment, enjoy your riding!
Absolutely nothing to be sorry or apologetic for mate. You've done a lengthy journey through some of the hilliest country in the land at a time of year when most don't poke their noses out of doors...and you've made this beautiful video which I'm truly grateful you shared. Thank you and please take it easy
Thanks! I’m minded to maybe have another crack at that route one day, but probably later in the year when there’s more daylight and definitely not when I’ve got work the next day! Looking back it was worth it (easily) for the sunrise though. That was special. Thanks for the encouraging comment.
Grand effort mate 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 you looked goosed in Winchester, all credit for continuing as you did. Rest up, recharge and go again another day. Your a star 👍🏻
Thanks for that, Michael, you're spot on about the state I was in at Winchester. Should have taken on more hot food or something but it's easy to be wise in retrospect. Oh well. Like you say, go again another day. Cheers for watching and happy riding yourself!
Love your videos. Well done 👍 coincidence I watched this today after packing on a 300k (Saturday) Audax at 255k! Had ridden through the night- enjoyed the morning and then the weather changed. Dramatically. Worried I’d get ill, was so cold and wet. Felt exactly as you described after I’d stopped. Better, with thoughts I could have gone on. I couldn’t. It was the right decision. More miles another day!! Am sure for you also with videos for us all to enjoy 😊🚴🏿♂️💪🏽
Thanks for sharing your own experience Julia. Bailing’s always bad but sometimes it’s just the right thing to do under the circumstances, isn’t it? Doing so at 255 out of 300 must have been pretty awful. I find it hard to know if I’m making a decision like that out of low blood sugar and low morale but like you say, if it’s going to make you ill at least the decision is clear. Well done for trying and what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!! Maybe you’re out there this weekend - hope you’re enjoying it if so. Thanks for watching.
When you came down to the bay I am pretty sure i saw the monster from Loch Ness swimming away on the left. That was so beautyful and as far as I can see yur are one of the smarter riders who know when its time to stop. Ruining the health and having a week living as a human wreck trying to cope with everything at work is not the best thing to do. Thanks for sharing your story and I am glad you got on the train to recover the superherostrengt. Liebe Grüße🙋♀
Thanks for your cheering comment, appreciated as always. I think the universe was showing me not to be so arrogant to think I could do that ride before a work day! Ah, but Loch Ness? Now, that’s an interesting idea….!
@@londoncenturies Oioioi 😄🙊! I was not the one who was getting you into trouble riding London-Inverness or something crazy like L-I-L. What counts is always a ride that feels great in the end and pushes health into the right direction. Gute Fahrt, bleib gesund und liebe Grüße🙋♀.
Glad you liked it Michael and enjoying your own rides. Yes, fatal error not to eat enough. I massively underestimated the impact of all the climbing early on but am quite tempted to go back one day and have another go. It’s an ace route.
@@michaelfreeman5933 Aha!! I used to live down there. You probably know the climb up from Dunsford to Doccombe? One of my all time favourite roads, that one. Happy riding!
You have nothing to apologise for ... I am always amazed at the distances you cover. Your video's are great as is the commentary. One of the best cycling sites on RUclips. Thanks LC (from Goulburn NSW, Australia - Lived in Putney, London as a boy)
There's no shame in keeping safe. 260km is still mighty impressive. I'd struggle to do that in a day in a car, especially after the hills in Lyme Regis.
This is the main reason I don't do long rides in the winter, the cold just takes everything out of you. I don't know how you do so many of these without getting ill. I spend the winter mostly doing structured indoor training with some up to 50 miles outdoors when the weather is good enough. Did my first long ride of the year last weekend.....120 miles in 6 hours 10 mins. Can't wait to do my 204 mile route again with my new pain free wide shoes.
@@londoncenturies Thank you. I averaged 19mph, and My TT aero bars were responsible for 1.5mph of that. My new shoes are Lake's. They have specific Wide fit shoes with different widths. You have to measure your width then match them up. They've been a game changer as my old shoes just made rides over 40 miles a total misery.
@@londoncenturies I've also got very wide feet and nothing ever fit - too long usually, couldn't really pedal properly. I ended up finding Fizik cyclocross shoes. I did need to put thicker insoles in but otherwise great. Haven't tried the Lakes.
You will better appreciate the good bits after you have experienced some bad bits! Good call on the abandonment as I suspect the tyre valve would have featured again before you arrived home?
Thanks Gordon. In a way I think it did because it was always at the back of my mind, just spooking me a bit, regardless of what actually happened. Cheers for watching.
the RIGHT decision..... and right decisions make us, rather than the other way round..... well done!
Riding into the sunrise - worth it just for that mate!! Smiles all round ;-)
Thanks, it was an amazing sunrise. Cheers for watching.
Love your warts and all channel 🚴♂️👍

Really enjoy watching your channel. I've just got into Audax and long rides. Bet you would have smashed it with more rest or Breaky earlier on 👍

@LondonCenturies Not tried that area of the Moor yet. Will now! 😀 keep up the good work 👏 👍🏆
Top effort man and respect for getting a far as you could and there is no such thing as failure, not trying is a failure!
Thanks! Nobody likes to bail but I wonder if I was getting a bit cocky and needed to be brought up sharp. I like your attitude!
Even that 260k ride would finish off 90% of people. It's good that you can listen to your body and take the sensible option.
Nowt wrong with introducing discretion to valour.

Probably goes because sitting around the house faced with jobs there has less appeal. And I for one, and very glad of it!
120 in six hours - that’s QUICK!! 🚴😀
And as someone with wide feet I’m interested in your shoes, too. Any recommendations?
